1 ABATE District 25 Winter Newsletter Meet your officers: Coordinator: Don Batt Occupation: City of Boone employee, also owns Batt's Cycle Date of Birth: Feb 11 Years a member of ABATE: Since 1991 and been a life member since What made you decide to join ABATE: Won a bike show in District 6 and got motivated at their meetings. accident: Yes, but it was pure stupidity, drinking, riding, drag racing. rode/drove a motorcycle? 6th grade, cut school. First real motorcycle at 18, 650 BSA. Most memorable motorcycle trip: Rode from Colorado Springs to Los Angeles to visit an Army buddy. Even had my bike painted while I was there. Family members: Wife, sister, 4 step-children, 1 son-in-law, 5 grandchildren, 1 brother-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, 6 nieces, 4 nephews, 2 dogs. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE members: 3 of them ride and wife Judy is an ABATE member. Clubs/organizations you belong to: MRF member, American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard Riders, Moose, ABATE of Nebraska, Brothers of the Third Wheel trike club, Iowa Heartland Trikers, Harley Owners Group, Motorcycle Mechanics Institute Alumni. Personal goal you have accomplished: Army veteran, married to a great woman for 20 years.

Have you ever been in a motorcycle accident: Yes. How old were you the first time you rode/drove a motorcycle? 8 years old Honda 90cc from a farm friend. Most memorable motorcycle trip: Sturgis 2006, 117 heat degrees. Family members: Dad-James, Sister- Nancy. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE member: No. Hobbies: Water fowl hunting, auto racing Clubs/organizations you belong to: Ducks Unlimited. Buy hunting property and lake house. Pep band, drinking beer, drag racing. Favorite Restaurant: Lonestar Secretary: Judy Batt Occupation: Bank Teller/CSR at Boone Bank & Trust. Date of birth: June 30. Years a member of ABATE: 20 years in this area, a couple years in Cedar Rapids area. Going to Freedom Rally when it was in Humboldt. accident: No, thank God. r rode/drove a motorcycle: I started serious riding when I was in my late 20's (as a passenger only) Would go to the "Spring Fling" and "Fall Ball" and of course Humboldt. Most memorable motorcycle trip: The one I haven't had yet, every time we get to go it is fun, even the short trips! Family members: 4 children, 5 grandkids, 1 brother, 3 sister-in-laws, 1 son-in-law, 6 nieces, 4 nephews, 2 dogs and of course 1 husband.

Clubs/organizations you belong to: MRF, Moose, ASPCA, Boone Area Humane Society. On my family, get out of debt, travel. Went to football and basketball games. Favorite TV show: Big Bang Theory. Favorite Restaurant: Texas Roadhouse. If you could make one change in the world, what would it be: Everyone would receive health care-free. A personal goal you have accomplished: Raising 4 children as a single parent to adulthood. I married a wonderful man more than 20 years ago. Treasurer: LuAnn Elsberry Occupation: Cook at ISU Date of birth: Feb. 23 Years a member of ABATE: 3 Meeting new people. Learning about motorcycle laws and safety. accident: No. rode/drove a motorcycle: 16. Most memorable motorcycle trip: Going with friends to a pepper festival in Wisconsin. Family members: Husband-Doug, sons- Zac, Austin, Spencer, daughter-marissa, stepdaughter-lesley, stepson Wyatt, grand children Kilea (7 yrs old) and Landon (4 yrs old). Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE member: Doug. Hobbies: Reading, working out at the gym, crafts, cooking. Clubs/organizations you belong to: Sacred Heart Church, Anytime Fitness. If you had an endless amount of money, how would you spend it: Would help the poor, would help all our children out and buy them each a house, put money in an account for college for grandkids. Working then hanging out with family and friends. Favorite TV show: Mike and Molly, Greys Anatomy, Parenthood. Favorite restaurant: Applebee's, pizza at Pickles Pub.

4 If you could make one change in the world what would it be: Peace and no wars. Any other information you would like to share: Husband, Doug and I have date night every Thursday night; we go to a movie, out to eat or whatever we choose to do that night to be together. Legislative Officer: Brian Foltz Occupation: Land survey Tech for Snyder and Assoc in Ankeny. Date of birth: March 30. Years a member of ABATE: 3 this time around. To meet more people that ride and keep an eye on the enemies in the State House. accident: All the time on dirt bikes...everybody should learn how to crash on a dirt bike. rode/drove a motorcycle: 6 years old on my best friend's Artic cat mini bike. It has a leopard skin seat. It was the coolest bike ever made. Most memorable motorcycle trip: All 3 of my boys and I rode the Mississippi River together. I don't think it got above 50 the entire time. We froze together for couple of days but had loads of fun. Family members: Tammie, 3 boys, 1 girl, 2 daughter-in-laws, 1 grandson. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE members: All 3 of my boys have bikes. The boys are all to broke to join ABATE. Hobbies: Snowboarding, horses, guitar, flying, bike building. Clubs/organizations you belong to: Christian Motorcycle Association, Boone Open Bible Church. The same way I do now, pursuing my endless hobbies. Actually I would be smuggling Bibles into other countries. I'm pretty sure that might involve a snowboard, horse or anything else cool. Wish I could remember. Favorite TV show: Walking Dead. Favorite restaurant: Cazadors. If you could make one major change in the world, what would it be: Bibles in every person s hands, so they could know (Epigenesist) the Christ, Jesus or at least know they have rejected. A personal goal you have accomplished: Went on a mission trip to Columbia South America. I visited the Harley Shop in Bogota while there.

Most memorable motorcycle trip: Riding along the Mississippi River in the fall. Family members: 5 Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE members: None ride yet. Wife just joined. Clubs/organizations you belong to: MRF. Traveling on my bike, with my family in an RV. Playing football. Favorite TV show: That's 70s Show, Big Bang Theory. Favorite restaurant: La Carreta, Texas Roadhouse. If you could make one major change in the world, what would it be: Everyone to be happy and to be able to survive everyday without stress and worry. Any other information you would like to share: Just to have fun, life is too damn short to be pissed all the time. Membership: Dale "Pops" Saffeels Occupation: Cement Mason Date of birth: June 30 Years a member of ABATE: Several in District 4 prior 1990, 6 months District 25 Have to explain in person. accident: Feb 1977 not so happy Valentine's Day, slid 273 feet and hit mail truck in Des Moines.

Most memorable motorcycle trip: Riding to Algona on a ' Honda and riding home on a '85 EVO 2011, hell of a birthday present. Family members: Married to the other half, Julie for 34 years, 3 kids, Dale "JR", Daniel and Kassidy. Dave and Dean, brothers and Sally sister. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE members: Dave rides a Road Star Yamaha and my sister, Sally, used to ride a V-Twin Shadow. Hobbies: Hunting, bikes, camping. Clubs/organizations you belong to: Russell Gun Club. Make sure whole family was taken care of. At Atech High football game causing trouble. Favorite TV show: NCIS Favorite restaurant: Any that serve beef. Membership: Anthony Kemp Occupation: Auto collision Technician Date of birth: June 30 Years a member of ABATE: Off and on since What made you decide to join ABATE: A friend accident: no rode/drove a motorcycle: In 2006 I bought my first motorcycle, a Honda Rebel 450. Most memorable motorcycle trip: I have had a lot of memorable rides but my first Freedom Rally was probably one of the most memorable. Family members: Closest to me are my mom who is totally against riding as a result of being nearly killed on one and my twin brother. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE member: Neither of them are but they do support me. Hobbies: Smoking food, want to start competition BBQ team soon. Clubs/organizations you belong to: No. I would probably travel a lot. Driving around in my 65 Corvair or riding Flatland BMX with my friends.

7 Favorite TV show: Mash Favorite restaurant: Fugi Steak House Events: Ronette Bonnell Occupation: Hairdresser Date of birth: April 6 Years a member of ABATE: 10 Jim Adams and RC Adams. accident: Jumped off a bike on Logansport curve. rode/drove a motorcycle: Age 10 on Suzuki 80. Most memorable motorcycle trip: Sturgis and Arizona. Riding to Lehigh is always a joy. Family members: Children, Johnna, Adam and Austin. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE member: Austin and Adam. Clubs/organizations you belong to: BAD ride, Moose, VFW, Bikin for Tykes, Bikers for Boobs. Family, ride all over the USA on a Gold wing-a bright orange one, boating, jet skiing and riding horses. Football games, volunteering at the food stand, drinking beer, riding bikes or boating. Favorite TV show: The Good Wife. Favorite restaurant: Olive Garden, Pickles Pub, Otho Pub. If you could make one major change in the world, what would it be: Never married Mark Bonnell, but I love my children. A personal goal you have accomplished: I have beat domestic abuse and financial abuse; still fighting situation depression. Any other information you would like to share: Live, Love and Laugh and Let's Ride!

8 Events: Jim Adams Occupation: Retired Date of birth: Jan. 24 Years a member of ABATE: 17 Riding, friends, oppose to helmet law. accident: Only when I raced for 20 years. rode/drove a motorcycle: Age 14 on a 36 HD. Most memorable motorcycle trip: On the 36 HD when I was 14 me and a high school buddy bought it for $30.00 ($15.00 each). I rode it to Julesburg, CO and back. The kick starter was broke when I left and I had to push start it. Family Members: 2 sons, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE members: All but 2. Hobbies: Motorcycles. Clubs/organizations you belong to: Moose, American Legion, Elks. Motorcycles, cars, girls, beer---not necessarily in that order. Dancing. Favorite TV show: Jay Leno. Favorite restaurant: Olive Garden. If you could make one major change in the world, what would it be: No more wars, ever!! A personal goal you have accomplished: Life-long good relationship with my 2 sons. Any other information you would like to share: Do your work before you play! Make your money before you spend it! 9 PR Kathy Elsberry: Occupation: Customer Service at CDS. Date of birth: Feb. 19 Years been a member of ABATE: 5 Friend. accident: Several riding dirt bikes as a kid but no bad ones, just bumps, bruises and burns. rode/drove a motorcycle: 8 or 9, on a Yamaha dirt bike then when got my license drove a 200cc Yamaha. Most memorable motorcycle trip: Traveling the Mississippi river. It was so beautiful and also a trip to Sturgis (something everyone should do). Family members: Daughter- Lesley and son-wyatt. Any of them ride motorcycles or ABATE members: No. Hobbies: Crafts esp. crochet and cross stitch, walking and just being outside. Club/organizations you belong to: Past-Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, PTA, PTO. Member of Augustana Lutheran Church, involved with Relay for Life. Make sure my family has everything they need (not necessary want but need). Buy a log cabin by a lake and make a resort for the physically challenged children to learn to fish, hunt, and just be outside and learn about nature.
