Tom Logan, one of the clubs founding fathers, has become the clubs third President". Tom has been interested in motorcycles since the late 60 s. I am not a real restoration buff, Tom states, but I do appreciate the work of those who are. I love old motorcycles and currently have two project bikes in the works. Tom purchased an antique flat head at a neighborhood yard sale. Mike Kowal the new Vice Pres also a founding father was instrumental in starting the chapter. Mike served on the JSAMCA Board of Directors for the last 2 years as Director of Membership. His passion is the restoration and repair of vintage German cycles. Mr. Gary Renna has been appointed to the board of directors. Mr. Renna is a former Vice President of the National, Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club. Gary organizes weekly runs year round that often total more than 250 miles but he will customize rides for the club to amazing back roads & destinations that will suit vintage bikes. Richard Booker a member for two years has become the new club secretary. Richard raced moto cross in Germany in the early seventies and got bitten by the British Motorcycle bug. He presently is to curator of a 1975 Norton Commando 850 and a 1978 Triumph Bonneville. Unfortunately, both needs some work but that is one reason he joined to club. Mike Sudam is the new Sargent of Arms and has been with the club since its inception. Mike has both American and Japanese motorcycles. He has been a collector since the 70ies. Antique Motorcycles owned by club members hail from all corners of the world, Britain, France, Japan and of course America. We are waiting for someone to ride in on a 50ies Cushman scooter, a Norton Manx, BMW R32 or a 1960 s Suzuki Samurai, they too would receive a warm welcome and many questions from club members. The purpose of the Jersey Shore Chapter is the collection, restoration, preservation, use and enjoyment of antique motorcycles as well as parts, accessories and literature pertaining to the history of these motorcycles. Anyone who is interest in the hobby/sport can become a member even if they do not have an antique Bike. They encourage good fellowship, brotherhood, respect and camaraderie among all men and women. 4 Words from the New JSC President Well it wasn t the worse winter on record and so far there hasn t been too much snow, of course you can never rule out a late storm but to me any winter is too much winter. I tend to be more of a warm weather guy right up to the point where it gets really hot and humid and then I start wishing for winter. I know, make up my mind but that s not what I m here to discuss. The club has gone through quite a transformation/rebuilding over the last two months and so much has gone on it s actually a bit overwhelming. It s all been good though, the redoing of the website and procuring the web addresses jsamca.com and.org and having an experienced web master who is also an antique bike guy was a great accomplishment on its own. Mike Kowal, our Vice President has been working closely with Web Master Bill Dudley to get the job done, establish an accurate list and get things on the right track. Getting an experienced Road Captain, Gary Rena with a book full of back road rides is a good thing too. Gary is a board member as well, is very active and brings a head full of great ideas. Unfortunately our first ride had to be cancelled due to the weather but the announcement to cancel was sent out via our new websites system so no one showed up with skis attached to their bike, ready to ride. There are more great rides on the schedule, just check the calendar on the web site. I have been working for two years to establish a swap meet with Allaire State Park and it s finally going to happen on June 30 th (rain date July 1 st ). What a perfect spot for it too x20 vendor spots, lots of parking and a beautiful restored village with old steam train for the back drop. It is also great place to get a picture of your old bike too. We are hoping to turn this into a very large annual event and if it works out well, maybe a second one in the fall one never knows. We have other good help too and more instore for the upcoming year so let s hope the weather cooperates, the roads are smooth, the bikes run perfect and we all have a good time. 5 A Worn and Used Motorcycle Garage and Work Shop Story by Jersey Shore Member Walter Kusmenko To all my AMCA Jersey Shore Chapter Biker brothers and friends, I want to share with you an experience I had last week on 04/12/17 when I was in Western Pennsylvania for a week of Safety training in a town called Franklin PA, which is (100 miles North of Pittsburgh, PA and South of Erie, PA by 50 miles). After sitting in a classroom all day long for 8 hours, I decided to go out and explore the area, and I drove my rented SUV 30 minutes North to a town called Titusville PA, to see the Drake Well Museum and Park, where the birth of the American Oil and Petroleum Industry happened in 1859 when Edwin L. Drake discovered oil along the banks of the Oil Creek in Venango County, PA. On my return ride back down the mountain, I saw a motorcycle shop on the left side of the road and it looked like it was still open at 6:45 P.M., so I pulled in to the driveway. I got out of my vehicle and walked into a well-worn and used motorcycle garage and work shop, and I saw a few motors and bikes being rebuilt and serviced. There were lots of old motors, bikes parts, and old bikes in every room. What a cool place! What caught my eye was a shiny vintage Triumph motor way in the back of the garage on a work bench, and this gray haired guy was rebuilding it. The first guy I met was John, and I asked him if they had any old bikes for sale, and could I look around. I could see that the showroom side of the building was closed, and that the lights were off in the other half of the building. So he said, yes he could show me around, and his dad Johnny was the guy back there working on the old Triumph motor. I waived and said hello to his dad, and he stopped what he was doing and said to me "if you want to see some bikes, I'll show you some bikes" and he told his son that he ll show me around and that he will be right back. The guy I met is Johnny J. Monaco, currently 84 years old, and he s a Triumph motorcycle enthusiast and was an ex Triumph and Moto Guzzi Motorcycle Dealer and he was also a drag racer who last raced his Triumph Trident TT120 in 1979, and the top speed he achieved on that bike was 147 MPH in the quarter mile. He was 46 years old in 1979 and he opened his motorcycle shop in 1964 when he was 31 years old.

6 Johnny J. Monaco gave me a tour of his motorcycle shop and showroom and showed me some really cool old Triumph's and a few Moto Guzzi's. First Johnny showed me a blue custom Triumph Cub 200cc motorcycle that he built and painted for his wife to ride. Then he showed me an Orange Triumph 750cc that he bored out the motor to 850cc's, he also changed the carburetors, and added a custom built oil cooler to it. Then Johnny showed me his Drag Racing Triumph Trident Motorcycle, the one that he hand built and he made the wheelie bars out of car leaf springs, and built the custom exhaust pipes, and raced that bike all over the USA and even raced in Atco, NJ. I took a picture of him standing next to his Drag Racing machine and he asked me if I had any bikes, so I showed him pictures of both my motorcycles, and pictures of my dad who rode motorcycles in Europe in the 1950 s, and I explained to him that I was a member of the AMCA and I love antique motorcycles. Then Johnny said "do you want to see something really cool? and he pointed across the room to a covered bike that had a tall Trophy standing next to it. He uncovered the bike and allowed me to take pictures of him on it, and even let me sit on his show winning blue custom Moto Guzzi Chopper called Stoned Crazy. He had pictures of Arlen Ness at a show where that Moto Guzzi won first place. I also bought a t-shirt from Johnny that said Eagles can fly, but the Goose Cooks, and he laughed about that, and said he always loved giving Harley's a run for their money! This guy is a really cool old school biker dude, still wrenching on bikes, and he thanked me for stopping in to visit him at his shop. When I left, he said to me with a big smile on his face, that he's never going to quit riding and working on motorcycles "Until I Get It Right!"
