3 TECHNICAL FEATURES TEAL FC Free Cooling water chiller Blue Box FREE COOLING units meet the growing needs of energy saving, being designed to reduce the operating costs of the refrigeration equipment that operate for longer or shorter periods of the year, at low ambient temperatures. The strong point of Free Cooling units is definitely the control system that allows complete exploitation of the external air as a free resource, thereby minimizing the energia consumed by the compression system. Giving priority to energy saving, the control enables the most appropriate operating mode according to the measurements made by the temperature probes on the external air and reference water. In fact, the Free Cooling coil is connected in series with the evaporator of the refrigeration circuit and a three-way servocontrolled valve allows bypassing the same coil when its efficiency is too low due to high external temperature. Vice versa, if the weather conditions are favourable, the Free Cooling coil provides cooling of the secondary fluid using the external air, reducing the compressor wear. This way, to decrease the room temperature, the power absorbed is reduced until only the Free Cooling fans are used. OPERATION The chart shows the progress of the power consumption according to external air temperature while maintaining a constant cooling capacity of the unit. Condensation control needed during the simultaneous operation of the refrigeration and free cooling system is achieved by modulating the fan rotation speed according to condensation pressure and by a fan speed phase cut controller installed as standard or using an EC Accessory for the condensing section. 4 FC circuit diagram SUMMER The cooling capacity is generated by compressors; in fact, the room temperature is higher than the temperature of the water and glycol solution of the system recovery circuit. The freecooling coil and the relative fans remain idle. The operation is the same as a classic compression chiller. CHILLER SECTION ACTIVE The fan speed controller operates according to the needs CHILLER FREE COOLING TURNED OFF 30% energy savings in fan capacity against FC units with coupled coils SPRING AND AUTUMN PERIOD The cooling system in free-cooling mode works in conjunction with the mechanical cooling system. The free-cooling is automatically activated when the external air temperature is lower than the temperature of the water and glycol solution in the recovery circuit. The solution is partly cooled by the freecooling coil using the external air; the rest of the cooling capacity required is obtained mechanically by reducing the compressors, thus achieving more significant energy savings when cooling the room temperature. CHILLER SECTION ACTIVE The fan speed controller is ON ACTIVE fans operate at maximum speed CHILLER FREE COOLING WINTER Depending on the charging conditions, bellow a certain value of the external temperature, the cooling unit work exclusively in free cooling mode: the solution is cooled completely by the free-cooling coil; compressors and fans of the condensing section are turned off. For even more stringent external air temperatures, some of the free cooling fans will be turned off gradually to avoid excessive cooling of the water / glycol solution. With the addition of the fan EC free cooling accessory, the air flow regulation is achieved through continuous modulation according to the reference temperature, resulting in energy savings. 5 Energy analysis Below are some charts illustrating the energy savings for different cities, in terms of energy consumption, achieved using TEAL_FC, in comparison to the correspondent standard unit, assuming that the cooling need is constant throughout the year. Such energy savings can be easily monetized according to the electricity tariff in the country in which the machine will be used, because the investment is recovered within a year in most cases (under specified conditions). The energy savings of the subsequent years result in net profit for the investor. The charts show that for cities with a harsh climate there is a significant reduction of energy consumption, the latter still remains high even in countries with milder climate. In order to determine the investment payback, we also add the power tariff in the country where the machine is installed. 8 STRUCTURE Modular with support frame, made in galvanised steel sheet and painted at 180 C with RAL 7035 polyester powder, which ensures high weather resistance. Screws and bolts in Stainless Steel. COMPRESSORS Parallel connected hermetic rotary screw scroll type compressors with heaters for the cranckcase, oil level gauge, klixon thermal protection and oil equalization system. CONDENSERS In TEAL units consisting of aluminum microchannel coils, instead are an alluminium-finned copper-tube multi-rowcoils in TEAL 2A, TEAL 2SLN, TEAL A+, TEAL A SLN. Through continuous research in the field of metal alloys andsophisticated production techniques, microchannel coils aremade using specific aluminum alloys for the tubes and the fins. This drastically reduces the effects of galvanic corrosion, always guaranteeing the protection of pipes that contain the refrigerant. Tubes and fins are also subjected to processes of SilFLUX coating (or equivalent) or the addition of zinc to further increase the corrosion resistance. Optional e-coated microchannel coils are available if the unit needs to be installed in environments with a particularly aggressive atmosphere. They are strongly recommended for use in coastal or highly industrialised areas. Using microchannel coils instead of those in copper/aluminum reduce the overall weight of the unit by approx. 10% and that of the refrigerant charge by a least 30%. The layout of the V coils makes the unit very compact and simultaneously guarantee an increase in the air intake area leaving ample space for the cooling and hydraulic circuit components to be set. To protect the exchangers from corrosion and to ensure the unit operates properly, follow the recommendations reported in the use, installation and maintenance manual to clean the coils. For installations within one kilometre from the coast, we strongly recommend using Cu/Al coils with an anti-corrosion treatment for cold-only units as well. E-COATED MICROCHANNEL COILS E-coated microchannel coils undergo a treatment that involves immersing the whole exchanger in an emulsion of organic resins, solvents, ionic stabilizers and deionized water. All the equipment is exposed to the action of a suitable electric field, which leads to the formation of a compact, even deposit on the exchanger. This deposit is used to protect aluminium from corrosion without affecting its thermal and physical properties. ELECTRIC FANS (Free cooling condensing section) Axial fans with sickle-shaped vanes designed to enhance performance and reduce noise emissions, driven directly by a 6-pole electric motor with integrated klixon thermal protection. Motor protection degree is IP 54. The fan is fitted with a protection grille. As accessory for EC fans. EVAPORATOR Plate type heat exchanger in AISI 316 stainless steel insulated with closed-cell foam. The 2 cooling circuit versions are equipped with dual-circuit heat exchanger with a single hidraulic connection, while the models with 4 cooling circuits are equipped with dual dual-circuit heat exchanger and hidraulic connections with manifolds fitted as standard. --The dual-circuit plate heat exchangers provide for: --Increased COP/EER; --Reduced refrigerant charge; --Reduced volume and weight of the unit; --Easier maintenance; Each heat exchanger is equipped with an antifreeze protection temperature probe. The hidraulic manifold has a flow switch and a probe for controlling the water temperature in the plant recovery circuit. COOLING CIRCUIT Comprises: shut-off valve on fluid line, feeding plugs of 5/16, fluid sight glass, replaceable solid core dehydrating filter, electronic expansion valve, pressure transducer for the microprocessor control, to read the high and low pressure values and the relative evaporation and condenstaion temperatures, high pressure switches and safety valves. The operation of the solenoid valve on the fluid line is enabled by the electronic expansion valve, which closes at circuit stoppage and intercepts the fluid line. The electronic valve can be fitted, on request, with backup coil to ensure closing even in the absence of voltage. FREE COOLING COIL Made of high efficiency finned coils with copper tubes and aluminum fins. Equipped with air vent valves. THREE-WAY VALVE The servo-controlled three-way valve opens or closes the water/ glycol flow to the Fee cooling coil according to the signal transmitted by the microprocessor control. HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT Comprises: expansion vessel, water discharge valve and air vent valve, safety valve; servo-controlled three-way valve that opens and closes the water/ glycol flow to the coil according to the signal transmitted by control system. ELECTRICAL PANEL The panel consists of: Main disconnect switch; Automatic circuit breakers compressors with fixed setting; Fuses for auxilliary circuit protection ; Compressor remote switches; Fan remote switches ; Pump magnetothermic switches (if present); Microprocessor to control the following functions: --Control of ingoing water temperature; --Anti-freeze protection; 8

CONTROL AND SAFETY DEVICES Manual reset high pressure controller; Automatic reset high pressure safety switch with limited trip controlled by the microprocessor; Automatic reset low pressure safety switch with limited trip controlled by the microprocessor; High pressure safety valve; Water side safety valve; Anti-freeze probe on each evaporator outtake; Cooled water temperature control probe (on evaporator delivery line); Vane-operated mechanical flow switch (supplied as standard); Compressor and fan overtemperature switches. TESTING The units are factory-tested and supplied complete with oil and refrigerant. TEAL 2SLN In addition to the /LN version compressor tank with acoustic insulation, this unit is able to reduce the fan speed in order to achieve lower air flow and, therefore, lower noise level, under standard operating conditions, with respect to the basic version unit. The speed controller allows the fans to rotate at maximum speed even when the outdoor air temperature is particularly critical and, therefore, have the same operating limits as TEAL A. TEAL A SLN In addition to the /LN version compressor tank with acoustic insulation, this unit is able to reduce the fan speed in order to achieve lower air flow and, therefore, lower noise level, under standard operating conditions, with respect to the basic version unit. The speed controller allows the fans to rotate at maximum speed even when the outdoor air temperature is particularly critical and, therefore, have the same operating limits as TEAL A+. Night Shift System Accessory This accessory is available for TEAL SLN FC and TEAL A SLN FC and allows the units, by setting the daily time slot, to operate in high efficiency or low noise mode, depending on the requirements. For example, in the daytime during the summer, the machine can be set to operate at full energy efficiency, while at night, the machine will run in super low-noise mode, with great sensitivity to noise perception. From the default time slot settings below, the user can reset the new time slots directly from the keyboard of the microprocessor Default time slots From 8:00 to 20:00 High Efficiency Mode From 20:00 to 8:00 Super low-noise Mode CHILLER VERSIONS TEAL 2A Compared to TEAL standard version, this unit includes smaller sizes of compressors and increased heat exchangers in order to increase the exchange surfaces and compressor potential ratio. This provides greater energy efficiency ( high EER and COP) and high ESEER (European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) values. TEAL A+ Compared to TEAL A, this unit provides further increase in the exchange surfaces and compressor ratio. This results in very high energy efficiency. 9

10 FREE COOLING VERSIONS Each type of chiller can be combined to a free cooling system, from one of the three different models (Basic-Custom-Extra) available, according to the efficiency and the sound level you want to achieve as per the charts below. The charts show the value of air temperature for which 100% of cooling capacity is achieved by using only the free cooling coils and with the chiller turned off. The performance and sound level change according to the type of fan connection (delta / star). 12 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM OPTIONS TEAL FC/ST: unit with pumps and tank In addition to TEAL unit components, the unit can be equipped with an insulated inertial storage tank and circulation pumps. The following configurations are available: ST 1PS: with 1 pump and tank; ST 1P: with 1 pump without tank; ST 2PS: with 2 pumps and tank; ST 2P: with 2 pumps without tank; For version with 2 circulation pumps (one in stand-by to the other, both sized for 100% capacity), switching occurs automatically, in time and in case of failure. The following accessories are also available: expansion vessel, retaining valve (except for the 1P and 1PS versions) and shutter valve on intake line (only for tank versions), shutter valve on pump delivery ( for ST1P and ST1PS versions only). ACCESSORY VERSIONS TEAL FC /DC: unit with recovery condenser Beside the TEAL FC version components, the unit comprises a recovery condenser on each cooling circuit (recoverying 100% of the plate condensing heat for the production of hot water) and a fluid receptor. The control automatically enables the recovery function, depending on water temperature, and controls its safety desablement in case of high pressure. TEAL FC /DS: unit with desuperheater Beside the TEAL version components, the unit comprises a recovery condenser on each cooling circuit (recoverying 20 % of the condensation heat, connected in series with the condenser coil). The condenser is brazed plate type. This version is also available for HP outfit. In this case, the system must be equipped with a shut-off valve on the water recovery line during the HP operation, as shown in the manual. TEAL FC /LN: low-noise unit In addition to the TEAL FC version components, this unit has a fully soundproofed compressor compartment (using high acoustic impedance and sound-absorbent materials). ACCESSORIES REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT ACCESSORIES Condensing pressure control through EC type fans on condensing section; Air flow modulating control for the free cooling section through EC fans (for air temperatures <100% TFT, the unit microprocessor controls the EC fan speed rotation using a 0-10V signal). Double set point (high/low temperature) with a single electronic expansion valve. The evaporator is sized according to high temperature operation. The set point can be changed from the keyboard or the digital input, in this case, it must be specified in the order; High and low pressure gauges are available for all models (the inlet and outlet pressures are also shown on the control display even for the machine with standard configuration); Compressor intake valves; HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT ACCESSORIES Electrical panel heaters + three-way valve for operation with air < -25 C; Water side safety valve (/ST version only). EC FANS The TEAL units can be coupled to the innovative EC (Electroni- 12

13 cally Commutated) axial fans with direct current and electronic switch brushless motor. These motors, with permanent magnets rotor, guarantee high efficiency levels for each working condition and allow a saving of 15% per fan, as well as a reduction of sound emission and improved adjustment of the air flow on variation of the external temperature. ELECTRONIC EXPANSION VALVE The use of this accessory is particularly suitable on units which have to operate under conditions of thermal load very variable or mode of operation variables, such as in the case of joint operation of conditioning and production of water at high temperature. The use of electronic thermostatic valve allows it to: maximize the heat exchange evaporator minimize the response time to changes in load and operating conditions optimize the superheat ensure maximum energy efficiency 13
