3 Rover Car Club of Otago Minutes of the meeting held on the 5th September 2017 At Mosgiel RSA at 7.00p.m. Present: Alan Matchett, Bill and Gaynor Falconer, Ross and Veneta Allan, Badger, Joe Smith, Eleanor Clark, John Moore, John Rutherford, Ray Pilley & Rebecca, Bill Olsen, Kevin Phillips, Norman & Carleen Sparrow. Apologies: Jenny Phillips, Mel Tapp, Bernie and Steph Halford, Jeffrey Sparrow. Previous Minutes: Minutes of the previous meeting held on the 1 st August 2017 as detailed in the newsletter circulated passed as a true and correct record. Correspondence: Thank you card received from Diana Kearns. Newsletters from the Manawatu, Nelson, Bay of Plenty and Christchurch Rover Car Clubs. Matters Arising 1. Reminder that a $5 deposit with registration name to be provided to Pete Smith for the Nove Rove. 2. Auto-Spectacular: Our theme Fifty Years of the Rover Buick V8 Engine. Display cars to be Club members Rover P5B, P6B (2), SD1 and Land Rover Discovery. A display of two V8 motors on stands, history of the V8 engine from the original 3500 Buick V8 to the Land Rover 4.6 V8 engine. 3. Gazebo. Ray has two quotes:-pump up version (expensive $900) or 3m x 3m at $ Ray has updated the club library catalogue. 5. Discussion on the storage of library items. Temporarily at Norman Sparrow house. Finance Treasurer Ray reported on the accounts and handed around the bank statement. Signatures for the cheque account require to be changed to add new President and moved that a third signature be added, that of past President Norman Sparrow be added. Moved that Alan Matchett (President) and Norman Sparrow (past President) be added to the existing signature of the Treasurer. Moved: - Ray Pilley Seconded: - Bill Falconer Passed. Reminder to those that haven t already done so that subs are due to be paid. Thank you to the 67% of members that have already paid. General Business Membership list updated by Ray. Resignation from Badger accepted with regret. Distance from Invercargill to meetings becoming a bit much.

4 Ignition. Believe it not its Spring once more and after such a long cold Winter let s hope what follows is a bit more bearable. What has been more stimulating was the recent Auto-spectacular. Our display celebrating the 50 th anniversary of Rovers introduction of the 3.5L V8 engine fitted the event theme Golden Times perfectly. An interesting and probably useless fact is that our display is likely to be the most southern celebration of the Rover V8 anywhere in the world. For those who weren t able to attend the Auto-spectacular, we had 5 cars on display, Peter Smiths P5B, Bill Falconers Mk 1 P6B, Norman Sparrows Mk2 P6B, Jerrald Mathias s SD1 Van den Plas and Bill Olsen s Land Rover Discovery each representing different development stages of the V8 and we had one of the very last development phases of the Rover V8, a 4.6l engine, kindly loaned to us by Noel Harper of Landi-Bits. Despite a bit of a panic with Alan forgetting the velcro dots for the display panels Rebecca and Ray still managed to get all the information before up before the Friday 7.00pm deadline and lastly thanks to Peter s engineering skills in building the freestanding engine display stands One of the most interesting aspects of participating at these events is the comradery between members and getting to know one-another better, learning new things about our cars and also meeting so many other interesting people and occasionally an old friend one hasn t seen the last one or years before. Looking forward, the excitement continues with the Nove Rove rapidly approaching. Don t delay confirming your participation and booking your accommodation. Its going to be a great weekend and we are going to be travelling through some of the most interesting and historically important areas in Otago. Club Subscriptions At the AGM held on the 22nd of July 2017, it was decided to keep the annual club subscription at $30.00 per member. At the meeting it was also decided to increase the prompt payment discount to $15.00 if payment is received by 30 September So save yourself $15.00 and only pay $15.00 till the end of September. Subscriptions for the year are now due and can be paid to the club as follows:-deposit into the Club bank account Westpac Bank A/C Number (Please don t forget to insert your name as reference) or Cheque made out to Rover Car Club of Otago. Post to O Box 2075 Dunedin 9004 or Cash or cheque handed to the Treasurer. Please do not sent cash by post in case it gets lost. Thank you to those members who have already paid their subs. 10 ARCC RALLY & LAND-ROVER 70th ANNIVERSARY, METHVEN, CANTERBURY. NZ. MARCH 23rd to 28th For Rover enthusiasts next year is particularly significant as it will mark 70 years since the launch of the Land-Rover. From humble beginnings to an instantly recognised icon around the world, the Land Rover has contributed so much as agricultural, industrial, and lifestyle transportation. And New Zealanders have embraced it. In 2018 we will recognise this pioneer that has become a household name and celebrate the Land-Rover at the annual Association of Rover Car Clubs National Rally in Methven...The Rover Car Company of Solihull was an interesting motor manufacturer because for many years quality, even luxury cars were built alongside the rugged utilitarian Land- Rover. To some degree each benefitted from the other. The Canterbury Rover Car Club - incorporating Land-Rover - will host the National Rally on behalf of the Association of Rover Car Clubs of New Zealand. Rover cars from throughout New Zealand will be gathering in Methven for 6 days of activities around the region. On Sunday March 25th 2018 a special event is to be held at the Methven A&P Showgrounds. It will essentially be a birthday party for anything Land-Rover. We hope to assemble as many Series Land- Rovers, Defenders, Discoverys, and Range Rovers as possible. All vehicles from the National Rally will also join in and potentially make this the largest gathering of anything Rover held to date. This day will be actively advertised and the public will be encouraged to turn up with their Land-Rovers and derivatives. Some rare and interesting models have been promised. This will be a special occasion for the enthusiast and all Land-Rover Clubs are accordingly invited. The day will be open to the general public as well, so a perfect opportunity to show your vehicle and share the camaraderie with other enthusiasts. We encourage you to bring your Rover, your family and enjoy being part of this day.
