1 10 th Annual Downtown Development Authority Art Challenge/Exhibit Designing Art on Downtown Hydrants! The Madison Heights Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is exited to bring another funtional art hallenge! Similar to the bike rak design hallenge several years ago, the DDA is bringing bak another funtional art theme again-this time with fire hydrants! There are 45 blank anvas fire hydrants loated in our downtown distrit! We are asking students to design a fire hydrant with top designs later ommissioned to be painted by the students! A map of all the fire hydrant loation sites is attahed with eah art hallenge appliation. Artist Requirements: 1. Artists may ONLY use oil-based enamel paint on the hydrants. 2. Paint annot prevent the funtional use of the hydrant. The three openings and the top turning knob must all funtion. Hydrant threads may not be painted as well. Paint annot seep into it to prevent operation. 3. Paint may not redue the hydrant s visibility: a. Paint may not be all blak, all white, dark amouflage green or use patterns and/or designs that redue the hydrants visibility. b. Paint Colors may not be the same olor as the vegetation or items surrounding the hydrant.. Blak paint may not over more than 20% of the overall hydrant. 4. Use Bright, Vibrant Color 5. No attahed or added objets may be used. Paint only! 6. Design must be appropriate for publi plaes. a. Painting/art annot diretly endorse an individual b. No offensive, derogatory or obsene graphis. No gang tags d. No logos, opyrighted or trademarked graphis 7. No opy is allowed anywhere on the hydrant exept a 3 X3 area for the artist s signature

2 Entry Requirements and Criteria: Must be enrolled as a full-time student at any of the Madison Heights shools, inluding Lamphere, Madison and Bishop Foley. Submittal must be an original work reated for this art hallenge. Art work previously made or shown at another art hallenge or exhibit will not be aepted. It must not be opied from or very similar in appearane to any other art, photo or material. Entries must be appropriate for promotional/marketing purposes. Entries deemed vulgar or offensive will be disqualified, in the sole disretion of the judges. A statement must aompany your entry, stating your interpretation of Creative Art on Fire Hydrants theme. Appliants an work in teams or individually. However, only one entry per person. If you are partiipating in an art piee on a team, you may not submit an individual art piee separately. Exluded materials inlude deeased animals/insets, (in whole and part) any harmful solids or liquids, perishable items. You must inlude your name and title of your artwork on the enlosed form. If the Madison Heights DDA determines that any of these rules have been violated, Madison Heights may disqualify the entry from this ompetition. The City of Madison Heights, DDA, Sponsors and Judges are not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen entries. There is no entry fee to partiipate. 4 Terms and Agreement: Entry appliant and his/her parent/guardian shall indemnify and hold harmless the City of Madison Heights Southend Downtown Development Authority, the City of Madison Heights, event volunteers from laims, liabilities, osts and harges (inluding attorney fees) for injury, loss or damage to property or persons (inluding death) arising out of student ativities in onnetion with the event, or any breah of representation, warranty or ovenant in this ontrat or in the Terms and Conditions ontained in this agreement. The student appliant agrees that the City of Madison Heights may, if it elets, reprodue or display the artwork and narrative (inluding on the internet) as well as produe ollateral materials using the art likeness in whole or parts of any written addenda.
