2 SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers General chracteristics Description Spectra "Moulded case" circuit-breakers with electronic protection are available in three and four pole versions, in fixed or withdrawable formats. The Spectra circuit-breakers have individual rating plugs and enable protected distribution of electricity within a current range of 20 and 1250 A. 2 Suitability for visible isolation Spectra circuit-breakers are ideal for fully visible isolation selection: With the handle free, the indication "open" (green display) is only possible when the main contacts are separated by a distance of > 20 mm. Spectra circuit-breakers conform to standards: IEC 947-3, NF C and CNOMO recommendations (protection of machine tools). Double, forward-facing insulation Spectra circuit-breakers are provided with forward-facing sockets designed for insertion of internal electrical auxilliaries in situ without the need to interrupt the power supply. The sockets are completely insulated from the power circuit. Use Spectra circuit-breakers provide a solution for three performance levels: - normal breaking capacity, type EN - High breaking capacity, type EH - Limiter circuit-breaker, type EL y adding or replacing elements, it is possible to perform the following functions: - earth leakage protection, - visible breaking isolation. reaking capacity (according to IEC at 415V) Icu (ka) 100 Seal For extra safety, access to connection terminals and to controls can be locked off while at the same time retaining visibility. Degree of protection In front, in accordance with the NF C standard: - basic circuit-breaker: IP 2X (E 160) IP 3X (E 250 to E 1250) - fixed or withdrawable circuit-breaker, with terminal covers: IP 3X Note: the addition of electrical control units, rotary control handle, earthleakage units or the use of withdrawable devices does not affect the protection offered by the circuit-breaker Temperature derating The maximum normal current for a circuit-breaker depends on the ambient temperature in which it is placed. This is concerned with the temperature around the circuit-breaker: - either the ambient temperature when the circuit-breaker is installed in the open air - or the air inside the box or casing which the circuit-breaker is encased. The reference (test) temperature for all Spectra circuit-breakers is 40 0 C. EL 160 EL 250 EL 400 EL 630 Derating is not automatic, the rating plug must be selected according to the ambient temperature around the circuit-breaker. 65 Fixed appliance Withdrawable appliance 40 0 C 50 0 C 60 0 C 70 0 C 40 0 C 50 0 C 60 0 C 70 0 C E A 160 A 160 A 145 A 160 A 160 A 160 A 145 A E A 235 A 215 A 185 A 230 A 210 A 195 A 170 A E A 400 A 400 A 400 A 400 A 400 A 400 A 400 A E A 630 A 590 A 550 A 580 A 570 A 530 A 500 A E A 800 A 800 A 800 A 800 A 800 A 800 A 800 A E A 1250 A 1250 A 1110 A 1125 A 1125 A 1125 A 1000 A 35 EH 160 EH 250 EH 400 EH 630 EH 800 EH EN EN 250 EN 400 EN 630 EN EN Ith (A) Resistance/pole To enable calculation of the power dissipated by the fixed circuit-breaker during normal operation. reaker E 160 E 250 E 400 E 630 E 800 E 1250 Resistance (1) (1) Value in milli-ohms.

4 SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers Spectra electronics High performance electronic protection. Spectra's secret in finding the correct protection lies in the combination of a very sensitive current sensor, a fast AD Converter unit and a microprocessor specially designed for protection. N L1 L2 L3 Activator 4 Sampler AD Converter Processing unit Traditional electronic protection devices are based on the measurement of the peak value of the current and the deduction of the RMS value. This method is accurate on condition that: - the power source is sinusoidal and alternating at a constant frequency, - the load is a passive one (R, L, C). Modern electrical installations are no longer of this type. Modern installations without a static converter or other electronic equipment generating harmonics are rare, - power networks are subject to interference, both with respect to voltage and frequency, - loads are increasingly active. Under these conditions, traditional electronic breakers are completely unsuitable. According to the network/load couple, it will create an "overprotection" or an "underprotection". Spectra samples more than 30 times per cycle. LT setting ST and I setting The current sensor output signal for each phase is sampled more than 30 times per cycle in order to establish the true RMS value, independent of the network, the nature of the load and the environment of the installation. In this way Spectra guarantees "correct protection". Curve 1: "over-protection" Curve 2: "under-protection" Curve 1 shows a current with a distortion of 10% due to harmonic 5: - peak value: Ic = 110 A - deducted RMS value: I eff. = 110/ 2= 78 A - true RMS value Irms = 71 A A traditional circuit breaker would trip prematurely, resulting in a disruption of operations. Curve 2 shows a current with a 20% distortion due to harmonic 3: - peak value Ic = 85 A - deducted RMS value: I eff. = 85/ 2= 60 A - true RMS value: Irms = 71 A A traditional electronic circuit breaker would not trip for this overload condition, resulting in the risk of the cable or the load being destroyed. Spectra: multi-protector or multi-protection The Spectra electronic circuit breaker may receive two types of instructions: - The rating plug, adjustable from 0.8 to 1 enables the adjustment of protection againt overcurrent according to the maximum current supported by the cable (Iz) and the operating current(ie). - Short-term (ST) and instantaneous (I) trip setting enables protection of cables against overloads and the protection of people against indirect contact, while taking into account the nature of the source. The same circuit breaker enables protection of lower power sources from short-circuits (alternator) or the protection of a load from a high inrush current (transformer). One version, without the LT function, is intended for the protection of motors (EM circuit-breaker). The fine tuning and precision of the ST setting enables discrimination between circuit breakers with LT settings close to each other. In order to guarantee total protection of the installation, the two settings of the circuit breaker are linked. Selection of LT protection automatically defines the ST and instantaneous (I) setting ranges. This link precludes all risk of "under-protection" in ST mode.

11 SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers Limiter circuit breakers General Curves (derived from tests according to IEC 947-2) Network voltage 380/415 V Limited peak intensity as a function of the actual intensity of the short-circuit current. 1 The limiting capacity of a circuit breaker is the expression of the breaker's capacity, in the event of a short-circuit, to let no current through that is greater than the assumed fault current KA peak N Maximum assumed amplitude ϕ = 0.2 j H H E800/1250 E400/630 L 11 This characteristic is expressed by limiting curves N N N H H E250 L E : Icc unlimited peak 2: Icc limited peak (actual) The great limiting capacity of Spectra circuit berakers is a result of the optimal combination of: - a light moving part, reducing inertia, - a strong current loop, to generate maximum force of repulsion, - a slot motor with strong electro-magnetic field to accelerate the opening of the contacts - contact materials combining good conductivity and high durability, - an arc chamber combining a high energy absorbtion capacity, speed of the breaking of the arc and the cooling of the gasses. This combination has enabled an exceptional breaking capacity /volume ratio. The use of Spectra limiter circuit-breakers enables a great reduction in stresses that normally develop during a short-circuit: - Reduction in thermal constraints in conductors, increasing their life. - Reduction in mechanical constraints due to the reduction of the electrodynamic forces of repulsion between conductors, which reduces the risk of deformation or rupture of the wiring - Reduction in electro-magnetic effects. The electro-magnetic field reduces and causes less damage to neighbouring devices and sensors. Rationalisation Spectra limiter circuit breakers offer multiple advantages: - reduction in the volume of boxes and cabinets, - reduction in logistic costs because of the smaller volume, - possibility of connecting circuit breakers with smaller capacity downline. 10 ka eff Thermal constraints limited as a function of the actual intensity of the short-circuit A² s N N N N E800/1250 H H H H E400/630 L E250 L E160 ka eff.

12 SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers Earth leakage protection circuit breakers Differential protection Remote control It is possible to control the opening of the circuit breaker using two isolated terminals, at the rear of the earth leakage protection unit. Operating voltage: 220 to 415 V AC or DC: no defined polarity. 12 Test circuit The "test" button enables simulation of a 30 ma insulation fault; The circuit simultaneously tests: - the sensor (core) - the processing circuit - the warning light (V) - the voltmetric shunt release (ST) Presentation The protection of people and property provided by differential circuit breakers with residual intensity measurement, is obtained by combining a Spectra circuit breaker equipped with an ST voltmetric shunt release and a differential block (MIR). The MIR block can be adapted in situ, to the E 160, E 250, E 400 and 630 circuit breakers. The MIR differential units are: - protected against untimely tripping (no tripping by the 250A 8/20 micro-second wave, defined by IEC app.. ) - adapted to continual bi-directional and uni-directional pulsed components (class A). Differential protection devices ensure the following functions: - protection of people against direct contact in TT systems - additional protection for people against contact in IT or TNS systems - protection of property against destruction or fire in the event of faulty insulation. Differential protection is also achievable on all Spectra circuit breakers through the combination of a circuit breaker fitted with voltmetric release and a differential unit with separate magnetic core (SHR, MTS). 20 SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers Manual rotary control asic elements for all installations Handle Colour: - grey as standard - red for safety circuit breakers in accordance with the standard VDE Locking in the "open" position: 1 - the handle is fitted with a retractable flap giving access to three 8 padlocks only when the unit is in the "open" position. 2 - lock is easily snapped into place, and locking and removal of the key are only possible in the "open" position. CACR display contacts (optional) General The rotary control is attached to the front of the circuit breaker it is equally suited to the following applications: - fixed - withdrawable or installed: - direct on breaker - behind a screwed-on panel or a hinged door. Description The handle precisely indicates the main contact positions: - red: device "closed" - white: device "tripped" by voltmetric release or "test" button - green: device "open" The rotary control guarantees opening or isolation function being clearly visible (IEC 947-3): the handle comes into the position facing the green indicator when the main contacts are separated by a distance greater than 20 mm. Locking off is not possible unless main contacts are fully open. A seal is available providing enhanced protection in the event of direct installation on a door. Two max. NO/NC contacts. These are integrated into the converters to indicate the opening and/or pre-closing of the circuit breaker. asic converter Can be fitted to the front of the circuit breaker to transform the sideways movement of the control handle into a rotary movement. The handle can be snap-on mounted on the converter. The handle can be removed in the "tripped" position by a by-pass. Locking converter for direct mounting through a door or panel Offers the same functions as the basic converter, plus: 1 - locking, preventing opening of the door or panel if the circuit breaker is not "open". 2 - memorises the opening position and preventing movement of the handle if the door is open. 3 - by-pass allowing opening of the door or panel with the circuit breaker "closed".

Funnel (optional) This part eliminates the problem of tolerances and facilitates the coupling between the external operator and the extension bar.

22 SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers 22 Visible isolation circuit breakers General Spectra visible isolation circuit breakers can be used: - in general low voltage protection of low voltage metering, high/low voltage subscriber stations. - wherever personnel safety implies the visually clear and physical separation of the source from the loads. They meet the standards: NF C and NF C , and the decree of 14/11/1988. They are constructed based on the standard withdrawable circuit breakers and may be fitted with the auxiliaries and accessories intended for these devices. In additon the Spectra circuit breakers with visible isolation were designed to enable: - rapid removal, - easy replacement without any risk of contact with live parts, - provision of reserve bases for future extensions. Structure Withdrawable and type V circuit breakers comprise a standard circuit breaker(n, H or L) and a withdrawable unit. The withdrawable unit comprises: - a fixed three- or four-pole part equipped with front or rear connection terminals, - a moving part that fits onto the circuit breaker, - a withdrawable safety device, that trips the circuit breaker as soon as withdrawal starts, - optional: isolation of the wiring of the internal electrical auxiliaries and the control accessories. Withdrawable circuit breakers (plug-in IEC type) Visible isolation circuit breakers, type V (can be isolated according to IEC 947-2) For E 160 to E 630 circuit breakers - three sizes of plug-in units: /630, - two positions: - plugged in, - removed. - connection: front or rear. - level of protection: - plugged in: IP3x - removed: IP2x Optional extras - wiring isolation: - one 8-contact block (2 blocks max.).
