Primary funding source is MTF (Michigan Transportation Fund) from registration fees and gas tax 2017 received $8.5 million ALL road maintenance including snow plowing, grading, pothole patching, etc. Road preservation and improvements Equipment purchase and maintenance Buildings Current 1 mill County wide Road Millage Utilized by Road Commission and Townships Used for road preservation and improvements only Necessary to maintain current levels of service

14 Common WHY questions Why don t you just fix it right the first time? Often repairs are band aids to get by Funding is not available for the fix we ALL want Why do you keep patching over patches? These roads look ridiculous and ride horribly... Funding from 2004 to 2015 was stagnant at best Costs increased while funding decreased Still no funding for repair of road system

15 Common WHY questions Why did Red Arrow or any other road get improved and not MY road? VBCRC searches for all sources of funding State and federal aid can be leveraged with our County wide Road Millage dollars Roads are often 80% State or Federal Dollars with 20% VBCRC Bridges are often 95% State or Federal with 5% VBCRC Why do roads keep getting stones (seal coat) put on them instead of real repairs? Seal coat (liquid asphalt topped with slag) is the most cost effective maintenance technique available Seal coat is utilized to keep roads from deteriorating further Cannot keep patching and sealing roads that are now too far gone
