13 BRIDCJN LONG SPLICING OF HAULAGE ROPES The minimum length of а long splice is generally fixed Ьу national cabieway regulations. In conjunction with these reguliltions, the minimum dimensions тог а long splice, recommended Ьу BRIDON, аге tabied opposite. It should Ье remembered when considering longer splice lengths, particularly with the larger diameter ropes, that this сап Ье time consuming and labour intensive because of the length and weight of strand that -hasto Ье removed and then replaced through the whole length of the splice. BRIDON suggests that the initial splice length Ье increased to accommodate the expected maximum amount of горе stretch. This additionallength of горе should Ье incorporated in the таггу агеа of the initial splice. When shortening the горе, the loop is formed in this extended таггу агеа and the strands then adjusted, three in each direction, so minimising the handled strand length and weight. If this shortening method is to Ье employed, then it is essential that the extra length initially allowed at the таггу агеа is тоге than sufficient to ensure that the final splice length complies with local regulations.
