REMAWELL special conveyor belts permit the steeply inclined or vertical transport of all kinds of bulk material. The components are: the base belt, sidewalls and cleats, which define a constant transport volume and thus ensure a reliable transport of material even if the conveyor routing is skewed. Order-based design and manufacture, together with the REMA TIP TOP worldwide service network, forms the basis of professional original manufacturer support and includes all aspects of maintenance and overhaul services through to replacement of complete belts. 2

3 SIDEWALL CONVEYORS Industrie The transport volume of a sidewall conveyor belt is determined by the arrangement and dimensions of the base belt, the cleats and the sidewalls. The components themselves must match the material to be transported, particularly the grit size. Sidewall conveyor belts are characterized by a flexible layout with redirection by means of deflection disks and support by means of side-placed stub rollers in the return strand. To prevent too much sagging of the belt, this system requires a laterally rigid belt with free lateral zones. The sidewalls are not placed exactly at the lateral zone of the belt but further towards its center to allow redirection by the deflection disks in the lateral zone area. REMAWELL belts are designed and manufactured individually for each application. The components necessary for this are available ex-warehouse in many different sizes. SIDEWALL CONVEYOR CONSTRUCTION TYPES The components of the REMAWELL system can be flexibly combined to give different shapes of construction with steeply inclined or vertical sections. 4 Industrie BASE BELTS The belt is only supported at the free lateral zone for redirection by the deflection disks and in the area of the stub rollers in the return strand. It is therefore especially important that the belt offers a high degree of lateral rigidity. The REMAWELL base belt therefore contains, as well as longitudinal reinforcement plies, cross directional plies in the top and bottom cover. Their use ensures a high lateral rigidity of the sidewall belts and thus minimum sagging when running over the deflection disks or against the stub rollers. In combination with low belt expansion in the longitudinal direction, particularly of the permanent elongation, this property guarantees reliable functioning along the entire belt service life. Due to its wear resistant properties and high resistance against ozone, the rubber cover gives the greatest possible service life. The rubber compounds of the components are matched to each other to give the optimal adhesion of the cleats and sidewalls to the base belt. 5 SIDEWALLS AND CLEATS Industrie The height and arrangement of the cleats and the sidewalls are mainly oriented to the volumes to be conveyed. The choice of the optimum cleat profile (T-, C- or TC-profile) depends on the greatest angle of incline of the system. Although smaller distances between the cleats improves utilization of the volume to be conveyed, the distances must be large enough to permit the complete feeding and safe discharge of material. To select the optimal ratio between the sidewall/cleat heights, the usable width and the free lateral zone, both the volumes to be conveyed and the belt tensioning forces, including local tensions, must be exactly analyzed. 6 Industrie RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENGINEERING The following notes on the construction of the conveyor system should be observed to ensure trouble-free operation of the conveyor and the maximum possible belt service life. Pulleys The recoended diameter of the pulleys depends on the height of the sidewall and the base belt used. These may differ. To avoid damage to the components, in any case the larger minimum diameter should be chosen. To avoid this, the belt should be redirected by a group of carrying rollers. This reduces the risk of loss of material or formation of dust. A further advantage is that a lower construction height can be achieved. Carrying Rollers While standard carrying rollers can be used for the carrying strand, the support on the return strand must be achieved by means of stub rollers for constructional reasons. These support the belt in the lateral zones. They should be installed at reasonably small distances to one another to minimize deformation of the rubber cover. The rollers are installed at a slightly raked angle to permit them to adjust to the cross-section of the base belt at the return strand. 6

7 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENGINEERING Deflection Disks Deflection disks are characteristic components of sidewall conveyor systems. When redirecting, they only contact the free lateral zones, creating a large amount of tension in this area. The width of the deflection disks must be somewhat smaller than the free lateral zones to permit a small amount of lateral displacement for the belt. To avoid damage to the base belt, the inner edges must be slightly rounded. Industrie Belt Cleaning Due to the special construction, sidewall conveying systems cannot be cleaned with conventional scraper systems. It is therefore recoended to use a knocking device iediately after the discharge point, inner belt scrapers in front of the tail pulley and scrapers for the free lateral zone. Additional pulley scrapers can be used if required. Belt Guidance To limit the lateral displacement of the REMAWELL belt, we recoend the use of guide rollers in vertical sections. These should be installed in the carrying strand at 2/3 of the height. For the return strand, installation should be near the lower deflection pulley. Crowning only makes sense for return pulleys or the lower deflection pulley. QUALITY ASSURANCE / DELIVERY CONDITIONS Manufacture and installation of all sidewall conveyor belts produced by REMA TIP TOP is carried out according to our Quality Management System with the procedures laid down in ISO 9001:2008. If so desired, we shall be happy to provide an inspection certificate for every belt. Delivery is normally directly to the installation site in a steel frame specially made for transport. 7
