THE NEWMOBILITY INDICATORS Today, we have the power to change how we travel A new kind of mobility is emerging. It is efficient, economic and sustainable, and meets the current and future challenges of towns. Isabelle Kocher CEO of ENGIE 450 km: the actual range of electrical vehicles using new-generation batteries. 3.8 million less vehicles in the streets in 2024: made possible by the increasing number of car-sharing services worldwide. 75% of people in France say they are in favour of driverless cars. 500,000 tonnes of CO 2 per year: is what the State of New York (USA) could save if it converted its bus fleet to electric. 15 million vehicles running on gas in Europe in 2030: that s the target set by the NGVA (Natural Gas Vehicle Association). 20% of journeys made in towns and cities used public transport in developed countries between 2001 and Mobility is a daily challenge for all of us. Moreover, it is also a major issue for our cities which, in 2050, will account for 67% of the world population. Congestion, air quality, a significant part of the household budget, global warming, noise pollution, stress: there are more and more reasons to change our mobility by adopting new technologies and fuel types. At ENGIE, we have decided to commit, as of now, to this transformation. By designing and implementing transport infrastructures equipped with the most advanced technologies, by connecting different modes of transport, by giving people simple and practical ways of making their journeys easier and by encouraging the development of more environmentally friendly fuels, we are participating in the creation of a new and more fluid kind of mobility, which is cleaner and more economical, in towns and regions, all over the world. Together, we can take action. Today. 4 ANSWERSTO TRANSPORT CHALLENGES, HEREANDNOW Transport is currently a major concern for towns, their residents and businesses. Find out how ENGIE is helping to improve their traffic flow, and to become more economical and efficient. INROTTERDAM INSTALLING THE EQUIPMENT TO DEVELOP ELECTRIC TRANSPORT FOR CLEANER TRANSPORT Rotterdam encourages electric transport with the largescale installation of charging terminals. page 5 FOR MORE FLUID TRAFFIC Rio de Janeiro and the surrounding urban area are relying on the intelligent management of traffic to unblock the roads. page 8 FOR AN EASIER USE OF THE NETWORK Edinburgh offers the users of its bus network useful, reliable and easy-toaccess information. page 10 FOR AN OPTIMISED TRANSPORT NETWORK In Paris, RATP is optimising the operation of its network and offering a richer range of services. Rotterdam, the economic heart of the Netherlands and the country s second city with a population of 2.3 million, is committed to an electric transport programme. The city authority has rolled out a huge programme to install charging terminals on its main roads and parking areas. page 12 FOR A LARGER TRANSPORT OFFERING Brussels is diversifying its transport offering, with more and more alternatives to the car. page 15 FOR MORE SUSTAINABLE GOODS TRANSPORT Rungis market and those active on it are developing an innovative and sustainable logistics model. page 18 FOR A SAFER AND CLEANER TRAM NETWORK Dijon is extending its green transport offer through an innovative publicprivate partnership model. page 20 FOR GREENER LOGISTICS The European Union is making roads a key part of its sustainable goods transport policy, equipping motorways with LNG service stations, from Poland to Portugal. page

TODAY IN ROTTERDAM Why encourage electric vehicles? First of all, for air quality. But also because this mode of transport combines several advantages: it is clean and quiet, it emits less CO 2 than transport by combustion engine vehicles. In the Netherlands, it also benefits from tax advantages, which helps to make it financially attractive. ALMOST 3,000 CHARGING TERMINALS In order to make it easier to charge electric vehicles and to encourage their use in the city, Rotterdam has entrusted ENGIE and EV-Box with the installation and maintenance of: an initial network of 1,000 terminals in 2014; almost 1,800 additional terminals, which will be installed between 2016 and Rotterdam is taking action today in order to offer alternative transport solutions to its residents. A WIN-WIN PARTNERSHIP In addition to the installation, ENGIE and EV-Box are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of these terminals for a period of twelve years. Part of the installation cost is covered by profits from operating and supplying the terminals. Thanks to this operation and the provision of energy, ENGIE can offer a realistic financial package to local authorities who want to commit to electric transport. ELECTRIC VEHICLES FOR EVERYONE The Rotterdam city authority has committed to electric transport in two ways: for residents, by setting up clean solutions and services which facilitate usage; for itself, with over one quarter of the municipal vehicle fleet made up of electric models. 200,000 electric vehicles in 2020: that s the target set by the Dutch government. 4,000 new charge terminals for electric cars installed in The Hague and Rotterdam by ON-DEMAND INSTALLATION The EV-Box terminals, which can be recognised by the LED lights surrounding the charging socket, have been installed in strategic areas, close to where users need them: stations, car parks, car-sharing areas etc. A dedicated website helps users suggest future locations, close to their homes, work, or leisure areas. 1.5 hours usage of the EV-Box charging terminals per day is enough to make the business model profitable. Rotterdam is one of the leading cities when it comes to electric mobility, and it is also Europe s largest port and has made very ambitious commitments in the area of sustainable development. By 2025, the city intends to reduce its energy consumption by 20% and its greenhouse gas emissions by 4 million tons. 6 7

INRIO DE JANEIRO Fighting urban congestion and its effects, namely increased fuel consumption, rise in air pollution and number of accidents. MAKING TRAFFIC MORE FLUID The city of Rio de Janeiro is amongst the world s most congested. For the city and its suburbs, the main aim is to de-congest roads and help traffic flow. With Maestro, ENGIE provides a wide range of solutions to improve the management of urban traffic. MANAGING TRAFFIC IN REAL TIME ENGIE currently provides the city of Rio and its suburbs with Maestro, a wide range of urban traffic management solutions. Cameras, speed checks, radio links, traffic lights and urban lighting control, real-time message display: the Maestro system captures traffic data in real time and the operation centre then uses this data to optimise road traffic. Over 650 cameras in Rio. AUTOMATING TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT In Niterói, a city located on the side of the bay opposite Rio, high-tech meters (data reception and transmission solutions), combined with intelligent cameras, have been positioned in the 10 densest zones. The command centre for these installations optimises the management of the traffic lights. The automated management helps reduce residents journey times. It also has other positive effects for the city: reduction of traffic light maintenance costs, fuel consumption, emissions and accidents. In Rio de Janeiro, ENGIE has been entrusted with the mission of adapting Maestro for an urban tunnel. All the tunnel s infrastructure (lights, ventilation, emergency exits etc.) will be linked to Maestro and controlled remotely, thus improving safety. 8 9

INEDINBURGH INFORMATION FROM DRIVERS TO USERS The Bustracker system, a bus network management tool, has been deployed by ENGIE since 2004 on the entire Edinburgh bus network. Since then, an AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) system has been installed on each of the vehicles of Lothian Buses, the local operator. Real time passenger information is a key issue for public transport networks. Smartphone applications allow us to make this information available to passengers wherever they are. MAKING IT EASIER TO USE THE BUS NETWORK In Edinburgh, passengers have access to 70 bus lines with over 700 vehicles. Thanks to the information system managed by ENGIE, users can know, in real time, when their next bus is coming. 721 vehicles equipped with a locating system. THE MOBILE, A TOOL FOR TRANSPORT The Mybustracker application allows a user to check, on their mobile, the transport network s status and when their bus is due, in real time. Another application, Take Me Home, developed by Lothian Buses, the local operator, plans the best route from the current position of the traveller to their destination. A RICH OFFER OF REAL TIME INFORMATION The data collected by the system feeds a passenger information network. It transmits real time information to passengers on the state of traffic, journey time and waiting time for the next bus. 12 million requests every month via the web and mobile information tools. 25,000 downloads of the Mybustracker application. The city of Edinburgh has carried out a prospective study on public transport in Amongst the developments envisaged: to get bus journeys to account for 30% of daily trips, and to extend the Bustracker system

INPARIS How do we improve all aspects (technical, commercial, user-related) of the Paris public transport network whilst ensuring continuity of service? OPTIMISE THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT NETWORK AND PASSENGER SERVICES RATP, the Paris transport authority, operates a large part of public transport in Paris and its suburbs. Faced with several challenges in relation to issues of optimisation and innovation, the operator is supported by ENGIE in the transformation and renewal of its transport and related services. TRANSFORMING THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK RATP has its own communications network. It gives access to the internet and telephony, and also enables the radio communications necessary for the operation of its services. ENGIE is responsible for the migration of this network to a new network and for the transformation and maintenance of the video systems on the metro lines. The scope of the contract is unique, since it involves carrying out, in one go and with no interruption of service (so only at night, a few hours at a time), the migration of one communications network to another. This project notably required the creation of data centres dedicated to RATP, to store all the data collected by cameras and on the networks. SIGNALLING FOCUSING ON SAFETY ENGIE also provides railway signalling for drivers and for people working in control rooms. The main theme of this assignment: safety. It s about making sure that the trains always run under perfect safety conditions. The demands are very high: the tolerated failure threshold is 1/1,000,000,000. Over 80 RATP functions are affected by this network transformation

TODAY IN PARIS INBRUSSELS DEVELOPING BIOGAS BUSES ENGIE has supported RATP in the development of refuelling solutions in RATP biogas/biongv bus depots. The particular challenge is to develop solutions to supply RATP with biongv, a type of gas which comes from the anaerobic digestion of waste. It is possible pool the bus stations with other logistics uses. During the COP21, which took place in Paris in December 2015, ENGIE and RATP provided the environmentally friendly transport of the 1,000 participants to the climate summit for local leaders and the UCLG world council, using buses that ran exclusively on biomethane. 20% of buses will run on biomethane in There are signs everywhere that urban public railway networks are becoming obsolete. The question of refurbishing them without interrupting the service is a crucial one, and ENGIE will be working on it. A PASSENGER INFORMATION SYSTEM WHICH CAN BE ACCESSED BY EVERYONE ENGIE has deployed, for RATP, an audio and visual information system which aims to facilitate the journeys of all passengers. With the implementation of this system, RATP continues its accessibility policy for people with reduced mobility. The information is broadcast on several channels: on buses, at the stops, on the internet (sites, applications etc.). MAKE TRANSPORT OFFER DENSER With 1.8 million car journeys, including 300,000 commuters who enter Brussels every day, the town is suffering from pollution, noise and congestion. The European capital is supported by ENGIE in its sustainable city policy, which aims to encourage new ways of getting into town and making life there more pleasant

TODAY IN BRUSSELS The city s transport authorities have committed to reducing congestion in a city where the car rules, with over 50 cars for every 100 inhabitants. To do this, they must offer alternative transport solutions to residents and workers. MAKING RAIL TRAVEL MORE ACCESSIBLE TO COMMUTERS ENGIE supports authorities in their discussions on how to optimise the existing railway network, aiming to make train journeys more efficient, to extend the network with new stations and interchanges, and to increase the frequency of trains. Various scenarios for rail usage in 2030 have been modelled to identify the challenges posed by the current railway system and to implement remedies immediately. ENGIE also carries out the daily maintenance of electric and mechanical equipment: overhead lines, signalling, power supply on the metro, the RER express urban railway and regional trains. 30 KM around the capital: that s the area covered by the Brussels region RER. MAKING INFRASTRUCTURE INTELLIGENT IN ORDER TO OPTIMISE JOURNEYS BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT By optimising road infrastructure, we can improve the flow of traffic and prioritise public transport: ENGIE analyses the strategy for managing traffic and regulating traffic lights, in order to implement a system which gives priority to public transport; the ENGIE teams are also responsible for several aspects of road equipment: traffic control cameras, management of traffic lights, information signs etc. 150 intersections where public transport has priority, affecting fifteen or so tram and bus lines. Train, tram, bus, electric cars, alternative solutions developed by ENGIE in order to reduce car use. DEVELOPING FLEETS OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES ENGIE has made rapid charge terminals available to 50 drivers of electric taxis, with the terminals located just outside the drivers buildings. ENGIE has also supported Belgian broadcaster RTBF in the study, deployment and management of a fleet of electric vehicles used by employees for work purposes. Charging terminals have been installed at several of the company s offices. ENGIE is also working on solutions for smart charging, in order to charge several vehicles at the same time, with more efficient consumption and at a lower cost. ENGIE is carrying out studies in order to help towns to plan solutions for a future sustainable transport system. The Mobil2040 study invites us to see transport as a catalyst for change, in order to make Brussels a dynamic city of the future, providing its inhabitants with a high quality of life

INRUNGIS How do we make goods transport more sustainable and allow retail groups to reduce their impact on the environment? MAKING GOODS TRANSPORT SUSTAINABLE Rungis, 7 km from Paris, has 234 hectares dedicated to the sale of fresh products. These goods then have to be transported to their point of processing or sale in Ile-de-France, other French regions or abroad. Natural gas fuel offers a new green alternative for this transport. AN LNG/CNG STATION ON THE WAY INTO RUNGIS By locating the first pubic LNG/CNG station in Rungis, ENGIE enables those involved in the goods transport and retail sectors to develop their logistics model. The installation can be accessed 24/7. Gas, liquefied or compressed, is mainly aimed at HGVs for the transport of goods over medium and long distances. 140 NGV stations operated by ENGIE in France, of which about forty are open to the public. A FUEL ADAPTED TO LONG DISTANCE TRANSPORT ENGIE will invest 100 million by 2020 in the deployment, across Europe, of new service stations supplying NGV, in its compressed or liquefied form, in order to re-fuel fleets of vehicles used to transport goods. Natural gas fuel pollutes much less. Fine particle emissions are reduced by 99%; noise pollution is halved compared with diesel engines; CO 2 emissions are reduced by up to 15% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 85%. Biogas reduces CO 2 emissions by up to 97%. 1,000 KM of range offered by LNG fuel. COMMITMENT FROM RETAIL AND GOODS TRANSPORT SECTORS The French retail sector, keen to find an alternative to diesel for the transport of its goods, has chosen natural gas fuel. To help with this need, ENGIE is developing a network of stations, and this includes the one in Rungis, the first public LNG/CNG station in France. In addition, a CNG/bioCNG station has been opened in the Rungis market. In 2016, ENGIE approved an investment of 30 million for 30 CNG supply stations to be developed in Ile-de-France. These stations will be public and will be used by companies

indijon A DENSE, FREQUENT AND RAPID NETWORK The 2 tramway lines designed thanks to this PPP combine safety and efficiency. The average interval between each tram is five minutes, and passengers and pedestrians enjoy a high level of safety. In the town centre, this interval falls to two and a half minutes, guaranteeing a rapid service; controls are increased, in light of the high safety standards. Expanding the town of Dijon s green transport offer, by offering a fast and frequent alternative, which emits less CO 2 and is supplied with the renewable energy produced by ENGIE. EXTENDING THE TRAM NETWORK The town of Dijon formed an association with ENGIE through a twenty-six year public-private partnership (PPP). Thanks to this model, the town can offer its residents 33 tram lines, covering 20km, which run on green energy. 90,000 passengers can travel on these new lines every day. A COLLECTION OF ASSOCIATED SERVICES The investments amount to 120 million over twenty-six years. This covers the design of the lines, infrastructure and services, including a passenger information system, a high speed telecommunications network, an operations control centre, lighting along the track and the platform and maintenance services. 6,000 M 2 of solar panels have been installed on the roof of the maintenance centre, providing power to Dijon public infrastructure. AN INNOVATIVE PUBLIC- PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP The construction of these lines was made possible thanks to an innovative PPP between ENGIE and the municipal authority. ENGIE made several commitments to support the local economy and improve energy efficiency: 50% of works are sub-contracted locally, 80% of maintenance works are carried out by local companies and 5,000 photovoltaic panels have been installed at the maintenance centre. This twenty-six year partnership aims to maintain and optimise performance over the long-term. ENGIE is banking on maintenance teams acquiring further skills, so as to optimise this performance on an ongoing basis, through internal training

INEUROPE ENCOURAGING GREENER LOGISTICS ON THE ROADS Because transport is one of the largest emitters of atmospheric pollutants, accounting for 59% of the NO x emitted in France, we need to invest in more sustainable modes of transport and develop alternative fuels, such as natural gas for vehicles (NVG). BUSINESSES UNITED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LNG NETWORK Private groups are tackling the issue through the Connect2LNG project, launched in All these companies, brought together in a consortium led by ENGIE, are committed to extending the pan- European network of LNG filling stations in order to encourage the development of green logistics. ENGIE is providing appropriate solutions in terms of price, design, installation and maintenance of filling stations in order to make Connect2LNG a reality. Today, in Europe, industrial and logistics groups are investigating, with ENGIE, with a view to accessing new kinds of long distance transport. Their objective is to put in place logistics networks which are greener, and even completely carbon neutral, running on gas fuel. ENGIE INVESTS IN NATURAL GAS FUEL Convinced that natural gas is a fuel of the future for road transport, ENGIE is committed to developing a network of NGV fuel stations in Europe, and particularly in France. Over 1,000 KM of range offered by LNG fuel, the liquefied form of NGV. 85 LNG stations (LNG is the liquefied version of NGV specifically adapted to long distance transport) will be built in Europe by 2021, about thirty of which in France

IN EUROPE ENGIE commits, over the next five years, to developing the network of LNG/CNG fuel stations. A BLUE CORRIDOR FOR CLEAN TRANSPORT Since May 2013, the European Union has been deploying the Liquefied Natural Gas Blue Corridors European project in order to make LNG a real alternative for medium to long distance transport. 1 station every 400 km on the main European roads. Hydrogen is a clean energy solution produced from water and appropriate for transport. It is one of the future levers chosen by ENGIE in order to accelerate the energy transition. The Group is a partner of 11 projects which have been certified within the framework of the Hydrogen Territories call for projects initiated by the French public authorities. 24 This document is published by the Green Mobility programme, ENGIE s department for Decentralised Solutions for Towns and Regions. It is available on the library.engie.com site where all of the Group publications can be viewed, downloaded or ordered.
