4 DEPARTMENT: WELDING TECHNOLOGY Welding Shop Fabrication and Equipment Area 3,000 NSF Ceiling Height: 18 clear height. Concrete floor, thickened reinforced slab for vehicular traffic. Overhead sectional insulated door. 14 wide by 12 high min preferred. Natural light / daylighting. Controlled solar access. North light is preferred. Well lit for evening classes. Provide plentiful electrical outlets around the room and drops from above (115v / 240v / 480v). Provide emergency eyewash / deluge shower. Provide piped gases around shop area at 10 locations. HVAC exhaust system: - General exhaust system and task exhaust units. - Provide make-up air with exhaust air. - Cooling to be by evaporative cooling in this area. - Heating to be radiant at certain task locations and exterior over head door. 5 DEPT.: WELDING TECHNOLOGY Welding Booths 1,846 NSF Provide 24 booths. At each booth provide: - 6 wide clear dimension x 5-0 depth dimension. In each booth: steel mounting pole for adjustable clamps, holders, table, vise, etc. Provide 6-0 wide by 5-0 deep space for (2) welding machines, located between booths (fabricate booth frames from T.S. 2 x 2, steel plate and steel sheeting. At each booth provide: - Exhaust system with hood. Provide high temperature aluminum coated glass fiber duct hose. Size per OSHA standard. 100 cfm. Install a system which exhausts from the rear of the booth at the work surface level. - Explosion proof light fixture v elec. receptacle. Locate below work table. Provide 480v 3-phase and 240v single-phase 50-60amp service with disconnect box. Verify service size with welding equipment manufacturers. Provide gas connections (quick connect/disconnect fittings). See attached drawing for layout of booth area. Provide lighting over the booths and individual task lighting built-in. Provide welding curtains at aisle side of booths. Welding equipment for each booth: - Lincoln welder 460v / 3-phase. - Lincoln Mig 460v / 3-phase. - Spot welder 460v / single phase. - Lincoln arc welder 460v / 3-phase. - Transformer rectifier. - Inverter. Locate by main shop, accessed via overhead door. The students work on trainers which are changed out depending upon the curriculum. The space allocotion is based on 16 students / 2 students per lab station. Other fixed equipment in the shop area is identified in the follow ing descriptions. Provide 8 lab stations (16 students). Each station is allocated 16 x 12 floor area = 192NSF. Provide overhead rack storage (20 lengths) and pipe rack storage. Gas cylinder storage area, 20 x 20 = 400NSF, (Acetylene, refrigerant, nitrogen tanks). 12 x 12 roll-up sectional door to the exterior yard area and a 4-0 wide personnel door. Ceiling height 16 clear height. Concrete floor, thickened reinforced slab for forklift traffic. Natural Light / Daylighting. Controlled solar gain. North light is preferred. Well lit for evening classes. Trainers from the trainer storeroom to be brought into the class room and set up as needed per curriculum item being addressed. Locate the trainer storeroom in an adjacent space or nearby. Connect with a pair of 4 x 7 doors. Same level connection. Trainer storeroom to hold 55 trainers. Sheet metal area: 30 x 33 = 990NSF Refrigeration (Fixed Equipment) area Overhead sectional insulated door. 14 wide by 12 high min preferred. Gas cylinder storage piped to exterior gas manifold system for easy fill-up. (2) large stainless steel handwash sinks. Emergency eye wash / deluge shower. Heating / cooling in shop area. Evaporative cooling preferred. Locate units on ground. Emergency shut-off: electrical power and gas. Provide at least one shut-off in lab space, possibly two. Provide (2) large utility sinks and mop sink. Provide compressed air lines at perimeter and drops throughout. Provide large compressor in separate room or outside. Provide water lines at perimeter and drops throughout. Provide electrical (120v or 220v) at perimeter and drops throughtout. Provide natural gas lines at perimeter and drops throughout. Quick-connect connections. Provide floor drains throughout and floor sinks at specific locations. Provide continuous trench drain around refrigeration area, along with piping to multiple floor sinks. The pad area between trench drains to be 6 x 30. Provide water at rear along with electricity (120v and 220v). Page 16

These units can be stored outside of the shop in a storeroom and rolled in as needed. Training modules: provide 4 x 8 2x framed module per 2 students. In a 16 student classroom = 8 modules. The parking requirements are therefore determined by NMSU. For general information the City of Alamogordo parking requirements are summarized accordingly: Off street parking District C-1: Off street parking shall be provided within a distance of 500 feet for all businesses of not less than 3 square feet for each square foot of building area.
