3 DAIMLER BUSES FOREWORD 3 Welcome to Daimler Buses! Retaining old strengths and creating new ones is the motto at Daimler Buses when it comes to addressing the challenges of the global bus markets as well as the transformation of mobility and the process of digitalization. Financial year 207 was wholly devoted to this motto. Our focus on a strong core business, future-oriented technologies, and the realignment of our production network enabled us to bring financial year 207 to a good conclusion. Last year we once again retained or extended our market leadership in our most important core markets. From a hybrid bus to bus models for the African market and new flagship vehicles for the touring coach segment, our product offensive demonstrates that we offer tailored and innovative products and services that meet the requirements of our customers all over the world. In addition, we are systematically continuing to grow. Last year we continued to expand within emerging markets, for example. Not only our global market presence but also our flexible and realigned production network enable us to optimally supply our products to countries throughout the world. At the same time, we are also shaping the future of mobility. As a leader in innovation, we want to utilize key technologies such as connectivity, automated driving, shared mobility, and electric drive systems to develop leading mobility solutions for our customers. That way, we prepare our customers for the digital age and boost their business. Our all-electric Citaro city bus, which we will deliver to customers for the first time in late 208, is certainly one of this year s major highlights. We are certain that these activities will not only lay the groundwork for sustained profitable growth but also enable us to continue to offer our customers the best bus-related mobility solutions. Mercedes-Benz Buses is a professional business partner and offers a comprehensive range of city buses, inter-city buses, touring coaches, minibuses, and chassis. Every Mercedes-Benz bus comes with future-proof technologies and a design that is characteristic of its brand. Our products are perfected and offer the proverbial Mercedes-Benz quality, reliability, and safety. With our vehicles and their demonstrable overall cost-effectiveness, we offer our customers the best preconditions for doing successful business and living up to their responsibility to mankind and the environment. BharatBenz The Indian truck and bus brand BharatBenz sells a comprehensive range of fully equipped buses that offer the lowest total cost of ownership in their class, a high level of comfort, and unparalleled safety standards. Its front-engine buses are equipped with extremely light bodies that use aluminum technology licensed from the British manufacturer Wrightbus. The buses are specifically tailored to the needs of India s volume market in the school, staff, and tourist bus segments. Setra Setra is the fascinating bus brand for people with the highest demands. We have a passion for buses. As a leading supplier in the touring coach segment we create vehicles that inspire customers with their design and comfort and in which the passengers feel comfortable. Reliable Setra product quality and future-proof technologies are featured in every one of our buses. Setra knows the market and the requirements of the customers like no other bus specialist. Trusting, long-term customer relationships and the highest level of understanding, openness, and consulting expertise make us a reliable partner for our customers. A wide range of product variants with a variety of individual appointments offers our customers a selection of vehicles both appropriate to their requirements and customized. As a result, customers can implement their individual business model to achieve economic success. Omniplus Omniplus is the service brand for Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses and is always there for our customers. It fulfills the bus customers needs with passion and bus-specific expertise and so ensures the best possible availability of the vehicles around the clock. Omniplus offers Europe s largest service network for buses. The Omniplus ServiceCards and the 24h Service mean that our customers can be sure of fast and competent help, even in the case of unplanned stops. Along with many other services, Omniplus offers the Fleetboard management system for Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses. The focus here is on the new Telediagnostics service, which optimizes the 24h Service and can substantially reduce the downtimes caused by breakdowns. In addition, our Omniplus service contracts ensure the maximum availability and serviceability of the vehicles. As a brand of the manufacturer, we know best about the various parts of the overall product. In this way, safety is enhanced by more than 30,000 tested Omniplus genuine parts, which are especially matched to the buses from Mercedes-Benz and Setra. Moreover, our training courses are tailored to the customers needs. With regard to connectivity, we will bring all of our service activities together under the Omniplus On brand in 208. Omniplus On integrates existing services such as Fleetboard and new offers such as Omniplus Uptime. Our Uptime service continually monitors and checks for example the vehicle systems, and notifies of any required maintenance or repairs. The Driver s App supports drivers and operators with the stipulated departure checks and with communication. Remote Bus makes key data available. BusStore BusStore is the leading European brand for preowned buses from Mercedes-Benz and Setra. The fact that both brands belong to the highly reputable Daimler Group increases our business partners confidence in them especially with respect to the competition from independent commercial vehicle and bus dealers. As a known specialist for the purchase and sale of preowned buses, we have more know-how and expertise at our disposal than any other supplier on the market. As a result, we are able to offer a large selection of preowned buses with a wide product range and inspected quality throughout Europe at our preowned vehicle locations. 7 DAIMLER BUSES STRATEGY 7 Strategy Daimler Buses. Best Buses. Full speed ahead into the future. The Daimler Buses division is perfectly positioned, as it operates numerous production facilities and service centers worldwide. We are a full-line supplier, whose Mercedes-Benz, Setra, and BharatBenz brands cover every requirement that our customers have in the bus segment. Our OmniIplus and BusStore brands operate a global service network and provide a complete range of services including the purchase and sale of preowned buses. However, our products and services are only a part of our range of offers. That s because we want to develop holistic mobility solutions in response to the process of digitalization and the fundamental transformation of mobility. The strengthening of our core business enables us to extend our innovation and technology leadership in four strategic future-oriented areas while at the same time enhancing our innovative corporate culture. In all of our activities, we want to grow profitably on a sustained basis and offer our customers the very best in mobility solutions. Our aim here is to retain old strengths and create new ones. CORE strengthening our global core business We continue to grow around the globe with the help of our regional strategies and new products in the city bus and touring coach segment. With our new flagships, the Setra double-decker and the Mercedes-Benz Tourismo, we are once again supplying our customers tailored products for the touring coach segment. The new Citaro hybrid city bus will mark the first time anywhere in the world that hybrid technology is being offered as optional equipment for a wide range of city buses with both diesel and natural-gas engines, rather than in the form of stand-alone models. We are currently reorganizing our European production network and making it more efficient and competitive. Through new regional centers, the production of school buses and fully equipped buses in India and the use of the Brazilian production location as a hub for exports to other countries in South America, Africa and Asia, we are continuing to expand our international business operations, particularly in emerging markets. CASE occupying a leading position in new future-oriented fields In addition to strengthening our core business, Daimler Buses wants to continue to set the sector s standards with respect to future-oriented technologies. That s why we want to further extend our technology leadership in the CASE fields (Connected, Autonomous, Shared & Services, Electric). Connected. Daimler Buses wants to use connectivity for the benefit of everyone involved for example, our customers, the bus operators (in terms of fleet management and maintenance costs), the bus drivers traveling their routes, and the passengers using the e-ticketing service. At the beginning of the year, we brought together all of the current and future digital services for buses in the Omniplus ON digital portal and also launched a new preventive system known as Omniplus Uptime. The Uptime feature continuously monitors and analyzes the vehicle systems and indicates when maintenance or repair is needed. Autonomous. In operations along a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route near Amsterdam, the Mercedes-Benz Future Bus with CityPilot has demonstrated the highly advanced stage our research has reached in the area of partially automated driving. We are now systematically developing this technology to market maturity. Shared & Services. In a strategic partnership with the on-demand ridesharing service CleverShuttle, Daimler Buses wants to offer flexible solutions for on-demand mobility. This will enable transport associations and companies to optimally adapt their services to passenger needs at any time. In this way, we want to achieve a breakthrough for mobility services that respond flexibly to customer demand. Electric. The demand for clean and economical local public transport is growing because urbanization is creating big challenges for cities all over the world. The development of battery-powered and other alternative drive solutions will further reduce the already low carbon footprint of the bus as a mode of transport. That is giving an additional boost to the development of our best-selling city bus, the Citaro. The Citaro hybrid will be followed this year by the all-electric Citaro. We intend to begin with the series production of this electric city bus at the end of 208. In addition, Daimler Buses is conducting the emobility Consulting initiative to advise its customers on issues related to electric mobility. In this context we work together with our customers to analyze each specific starting situation and use it as a basis for developing a holistic system with the highest possible proportion of electric mobility. In the process we consider not only the vehicles themselves but also the charging infrastructure, the operating plan, and the service concepts.
