3 The Client Nathan Lamb Age:11 years old Weight: 44 Pounds Height: 45 Inches Disability: Spina Bifida Cognitive Challenges Slight Autism Developing Scoliosis Nathan Lamb in his wheelchair.

4 Limitations Spina Bifida A developmental disability where the neural tube during embryonic maturation did not completely close. Hydrocephalus Due to Spina Bifida, the client suffers from an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the ventricles of the brain. Client currently has a shunt to drain excess CSF. Cognitive Challenges Challenges with the patient processing information. Keeps his right arm and hand pressed to right ear. Physical Therapist believes it is connected to a need for sensory input. Needs a wheelchair to travel. Cannot stand or walk. Weak trunk Unclear if Spina Bifida is the cause. Constantly leaning towards one side Physical Therapist believes he may be starting to develop scoliosis

5 Project Purpose Currently unable to operate commercially available go karts due to his disabilities. Provides the client with an enjoyable source of outdoor recreation. Allow him to socialize with his friends and other children his own age. Enables the client to bond with his parents and sister. (Design specification to seat two people) Aid the client in learning and developing the necessary skills to control his future electric wheelchair.
