To do so, the assistance system measures the current driving speed of a bus and combines this information with data regarding the topography of the road, the duration and intensity of acceleration and braking processes, as well as other parameters. Based on this, SmartAssist generates feedback for the driver in real time and delivers it via clear and unambiguous color-coded smileys. A green smiley indicates an optimal driving style. Yellow or red smileys indicate that the driver needs to improve his driving style. In addition, the driver receives tips on how he should adjust his driving style in order to optimize the fuel consumption of his bus. After each trip, the driver receives summarized feedback. Furthermore, SmartAssist generates a report for fl eet management with particular focus on accomplished fuel savings. Based on this, the vehicle operator can introduce measures such as targeted incentives in agreement with the drivers and disburse some of the saved operating costs as a bonus. This motivates drivers to improve their driving style over the long term.

SmartMaintenance Predictive Monitoring of the Driveline SmartMaintenance Benefits + High vehicle availability + No unscheduled service + Minimize time in workshops SmartMaintenance enables fl eet management to permanently monitor the DIWA transmission. The system identifi es critical parameters and thus creates the conditions for predictive and optimal maintenance and repair of the transmission, matched to the relevant conditions. At the highest level, SmartMaintenance also uses the traffi c light logic with green, yellow and red color-coding in order to combine information on factors such as the condition and the temperature of oil and transmission across the entire fl eet. For more in-depth information, the dashboard also provides detailed analyses at all times. SmartMaintenance provides automated recommendations to support operators in regard to predictive maintenance and repair of their transmissions. Costs due to downtimes, towing, providing replacement vehicles, and contractual penalties can easily add up to several thousand euros per incident. Not to mention the loss of image.

4 A Careful Driving Style and Reduced Fuel Consumption RSV Facts Location: Reutlingen, Germany Founded: 1969 Employees: 140 (thereof 100 drivers) Fleet: 65 own buses 21 million passengers per year in Reutlingen The transit area compasses 170 square kilometers with 150,000 residents The buses cover a distance of approx. 4.5 million kilometers per year Every year Reutlinger Stadtverkehr (RSV) buses transport around 21 million passengers and cover distances between four and five million kilometers in the hilly region at the border of the Swabian Alps. Around 70 percent of the buses are equipped with DIWA transmissions from Voith. Some of them are currently operating with SmartAssist as part of a prototype program. The drivers are interested in this technology, said Mark Hogenmüller, managing director of RSV. The goal is to utilize SmartAssist to achieve a driving style that promotes gentler handling of the vehicle and reduces fuel consumption, meaning that it increases the overall operational economy of the bus. The measured savings are significant: So far, a 10 percent reduction in fuel consumption has been achieved for the buses. Analysis of the driving style in real time Hogenmüller believes that one of the reasons for the excellent results of using SmartAssist is the clear and simple design of the system: The three smileys are self explanatory and easy to comprehend for the drivers. Whenever a red smiley appears the drivers immediately want to know what they did wrong. Throughout the journey, SmartAssist informs the driver about his driving style. The notification is so explicit and clear that the driver can concentrate on his work at all times.

SmartAssist Data as Basis for Bonuses The driving data obtained from SmartAssist is set to form the basis of a bonus program at RSV in the future. With an optimal driving style, the drivers profit directly from the savings generated by the system. SmartAssist is not the only assistance system from Voith that is in use at RSV. The DIWA transmission also helps us to reduce fuel consumption, Hogenmüller said. The transmissions are adapted to the topographical conditions in Reutlingen and adjust their operating mode according to the current load in the bus. Voith supports the team at RSV in order to achieve these goals. We have been working together with Voith for a long time, our partner always has an open ear for questions, said Hogenmüller. This is why he can well imagine that other buses of the RSV fleet will also be equipped with SmartAssist after the prototype phase. For Robin, who is responsible for customer service at Voith in France, this proves that permanent transmission monitoring via SmartMaintenance is highly effective. The data forms the basis for predictive maintenance of the driveline, which in turn leads to the aforementioned reductions in standstill times. Keolis has been using the transmission technology from Voith in Bordeaux s inner city traffic for many years. Around 90 percent of the 398 buses in the fleet are equipped with drive components from the company. The rest of the fleet consists of hybrid or electric vehicles, added Georges Nave, Maintenance Director at Keolis in Bordeaux, who has been responsible for procurement and development of the bus fleet for 25 years. 140 of these buses are equipped with SmartMaintenance.

7 4 According to Georges Nave, Maintenance Director at Keolis in Bordeaux, the close cooperation with Voith is a key factor for the effective utilization of the system when it comes to evaluating the data collected by SmartMaintenance. 5 5 Since SmartMaintenance was introduced to monitor the transmissions there have been no transmission-based vehicle breakdowns on the road. Tailor-Made Maintenance Schedules SmartMaintenance permanently monitors the condition of all important components of the transmission. Hereunto the vehicle data is transmitted to Voith servers in Heidenheim (Germany) where it is evaluated with state-of-the-art technology. This forms the basis for tailor-made maintenance recommendations for the Keolis buses. Longer Operating Times, Fewer Breakdowns A core element of predictive maintenance is to detect even small problems and to remedy them promptly, Hervé Robin said. An overhaul of the driveline is only carried out when SmartMaintenance indicates that the transmission is reaching the end of its service life. However, these maintenance intervals adjusted to the current state of the vehicle do more than increase the operating times of the buses. By minimizing breakdowns in flowing traffic, the operating company saves a significant amount of costs, said Robin. The cooperation with Voith includes regular training of the Keolis maintenance team.
