Review and Approval of Past Minutes and Action Items The group approved the minutes (#10-02) of the previous (June 9, 2010) in Detroit, MI. The status of action items from the previous is shown below. Action Items: June 9, 2010 (Detroit) Meeting # ACTION ITEM STATUS 1 Gery Kissel will invite Charlie Groeller (or his See note below replacement) to discuss truck connectors at the next. 2 Arindam Maitra and Manoj Karwa will contact mobile appliance manufacturers, especially portable power generators to find out how they deal with safety issues regarding reverse power flow. Carry over to the next 3 Frank Lambert will provide and update on IEEE 1547 at the Completed; see agenda for next. Day 2 4 Barbara Gonzales will work with Silver Spring Networks to Carry over to the next 1
2 make a presentation at the next on a generic AMI approach to EVs. 5 Efrain Ornelas will present at the next on the DC charging station at Vacaville. 6 Mike Waters and will arrange a resource speaker at the next Jose Salazar to discuss the utility perspective regarding roaming. 7 Brian Sisco will follow up on an invitation to Chris Pauly 8 Arindam Maitra, Randy Horton, and Bryan Coley and Joe Bablo of UL. will work with Doug Oliver to provide input to his team to address the issues related to ancillary load. Completed; see agenda for Day 2 Placed in agenda for Day 2 Completed; see agenda for Day 1 Carry over to the next NOTE #1: Greg Nieminski reported that Charlie Groeller s tenure with MACK Truck ended on January 4, ISO/IEC/IEEE Standards Updates Greg Nieminski, EPRI Consultant, gave an update on the IEC standards work regarding electrical installation in ships. Engineering drawings are being developed and committee drafts are being prepared (CDV) for the next stage of voting. The next s to discuss the committee drafts will probably be in the first quarter of 2011, which could lead to the final draft standard (FDIS) being sent out for a final 2 month vote following this. Mr. Sisco announced that the next for IEEE P1713 (Standard for Connecting Commercial Ships to Shore Power) is on September 19, EPRI PoRTE Committee/Off Road Projects and Updates Andra Rogers, EPRI, gave a presentation on port electrification (see Attachments). The EPRI projects include a cost-benefit analysis and marketing study of refrigerated container racks, a PHEV yard tractor demonstration in Houston, quantification of energy use and emission reduction with electric transportation in mining, and opportunities for rail electrification. The next of the PoRTE Committee is in Memphis, TN on October It will include a tour of a wide span rail mounted gantry crane. [More information on the is found in: ] During discussion, interest was expressed in the Balqon pure electric vehicle for use in wild animal parks such as in San Diego and in any published test reports. With regards to connector standards, Rich Scholer, Ford, noted that standards developed for the automotive market may be taken up by the SAE Task Force for heavy-duty vehicles. ACTION ITEMS: Andra Rogers will check if there are published test reports on the Balqon pure electric vehicle. Andra Rogers will check if connector standards for autos could apply to non-road vehicles. Andra Rogers will provide a Web link to information on the next PoRTE. [Completed; see above] 2
3 Non-Road NEC Updates The deadline for any proposal for changes to NEC Article 626 is November 4, TSE Updates Joe Licari, Shorepower Technologies, gave an update on their work in electric transportation infrastructure (see Attachments). He discussed the benefits of their pedestal-based truck stop electrification system, their existing network of TSE facilities, the Shorepower trailer wiring system for electric standby transport refrigeration units, their pedestal and wall-mounted charging stations for EVs and PEVs, their charging stations in five states, and their fast charge concept. During discussion, members suggested developing electrified parking sites at borders where many truck idle. Mr. Licari can be contacted at Next Meeting The next of the IWC is scheduled for December 7-8, 2010 in Tempe, AZ.
