8 Power Quality Event Overview On March 9 th of this year, a short PQ event occurred at EPRI s Knoxville office that impacted operation of our electric vehicle charging hardware 8

11 Overview of the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment We have 3 types of EVSEs on the site Two with built in access control (RF ID card) PROBLEM light flashing Two with keypad access control Keypad forgot code Two without access control Red wrench error light on A vehicle was connected to only one of the keypad units at the time of the sag event (all others were idle) All units are wired to the same 240V service panel The units are all rated at 30A capacity (up to 7.2kW) 11

12 Levels of Response to PQ Events 1. Self recovery back to original state 2. Error can be cleared by unplugging the connection to the vehicle 3. Error can be cleared via a front panel control 4. Power to unit must be cycled to clear error 5. Unit is damaged SELF RECOVERY TO ORIGINAL STATE IS THE DESIRED RESPONSE 12
