5 Bruges, Belgium Bruges Bombardier s Site in Benelux Acquired by Bombardier Transportation over 20 years ago, the site in Bruges (Belgium) has continuously contributed to sustainable mobility solutions for customers throughout the continent. The successful track record ranges from the high speed trains for Eurostar and Thalys, Shuttle vehicles for the Channel Tunnel (Eurotunnel, UK/Fr), via carriages for Virgin Trains (UK), coaches for Midland Mainline and Hull Trains (UK), to the M6 double-deck coaches for SNCB (B). In addition to the light rail vehicles Bruges produced for all major cities in the Netherlands and the automated city-metros for London s Docklands (UK), the site is also the cradle of light rail vehicles in Belgium, such as the beautifully-designed, award-winning Bombardier* Flexity* Outlook tram for Brussels. 6 ( Light Rail Solutions) Bombardier Transportation offers the world s most complete portfolio of tram and light rail solutions. In addition to improving our customers operational and performance targets, our vehicles have won numerous international awards for innovative technology and exclusive designs. FLEXITY Outlook vehicles for the Capital of Europe As part of an extensive fleet renewal programme STIB, the Brussels transport company, awarded Bombardier with the development and manufacturing of a total of 170 bidirectional trams of the FLEXITY Outlook type. Manufactured at Bombardier s Bruges site, the trams come in two lengths: 32 and 43 m which allows STIB the flexibility to adjust to changing passenger volumes on their lines. The new FLEXITY tram fleet chosen by the Brussels Transport Company creates an attractive, advanced means of transport that rivals the car in comfort and style. The timeless design, developed by Bombardier in conjunction 6 Our customers have ordered more than 1,850 FLEXITY trams and light rail vehicles of which more than 1,200 are already in successful revenue service. Most of our customers for this market are in Europe but our products are also in use in Australia, Mexico, the Philippines, the USA, Japan, and Malaysia. with Belgian designer, Axel Enthoven, gives fresh interpretation to the city s Art Nouveau heritage, with flowing lines, silver and bronze colour schemes, combined with wood and stainless steel interior panelling and leather seats. This combination of aesthetic appeal and functional detail has ensured huge popularity with passengers since the introduction of the new trams in Design Flanders awarded a Henry van de Velde Label 2007 to the Brussels FLEXITY Outlook tram and its contemporary interpretation of the Art Nouveau style. This quality label testifies to the authenticity, innovative thrust, creativity, finish, and added value of the product.

7 FLEXITY Swift vehicles for the Rotterdam Region (The Netherlands) To provide quick and comfortable transportation in the Rotterdam area, RET, the public transport operator of the Rotterdam region, ordered 43 FLEXITY Swift vehicles which will be delivered from mid 2009 onwards. The bi-directional vehicles will operate on the Erasmus and Caland lines and are of the same type as the 21 FLEXITY units ordered in 2005 for the Rotterdam part of the RandstadRail network a project that links the cities of Rotterdam, The Hague and Zoetermeer. This latest order underlines Bombardier s long-lasting partnership with RET, built on the experience of both parties. The good cooperation and communication made it possible to develop the actual concept of the vehicle, which is based on the proven technical concept of the 81 metros and sneltrams delivered to RET between 1998 and Over the years, Bombardier has greatly contributed to improving the attractiveness of public transport services and to increasing mobility for people travelling in and around Rotterdam. Original, stylish and fully accessible, the Movia vehicle range offers value and service second to none. The MOVIA family offers operators a new generation of metro vehicles with a system capacity of 10,000 to 80,000 people per direction and per hour. 8 (Commuter and Regional Trains) Bombardier Transportation offers a wide range of passenger railcars for suburban and regional markets. The product line includes electrical multiple units (EMUs), diesel multiple units (DMUs), as well as coaches in both single and double-deck configurations. Commuter Trains: Familiar with Urban Needs Modern commuter rail networks make it possible, and, in ever more populated centres, they provide connections at unrivalled speed between central cities and growing suburban residential areas. Sprinter LighTTrain for NS Reizigers Sprinter LighTTrains for NS Reizigers Netherlands Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen - NS) will run Sprinter LighTTrain EMUs from Bombardier Transportation, the leader of the Sprinter consortium. The vehicles will extend the commuter service in the Western metropolitan area of the Netherlands and will gradually replace NS s older rolling stock. The new trains are based on the proven design of the commuter train ET425, adjusted to the specific requirements of NS and the Dutch railway system. The trains have a maximum speed of 160 km/h and meet passenger s expectations in terms of attractive design, riding comfort, passenger information systems, camera surveillance and greater overall visibility thanks to wider windows. The improved accessibility of the trains will minimise boarding time and further enhance safety and comfort. The Sprinter trains have won a 2007 Good Design Award in the Category Transportation. The Good Design Awards are organized by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. Regional Trains: Lifelines for Growing Urbanizations Equipped with flexible interiors and areas for business and leisure transport, our trains offer a high degree of comfort and low noise levels. Short journey times are achieved through advanced technology that enables high acceleration. Verlengd InterRegio Materieel (VIRM) double-deck trains for Netherlands Railways The VIRM double-deck trains for Netherlands Railways (NS) are manufactured by Bombardier, and are used to expand the current fleet of IRM vehicles (InterRegio Materieel). Jointly developed in the 90s by Bombardier Transportation and the operator specifically for Intercity services in the Netherlands, the IRM is a double-deck EMU (Electrical Multiple Unit) incorporating energy-saving three-phase propulsion technology. The double-deck principle increases the seating capacity by up to 80%, thus making the vehicles extremely economical. With greater carrying capacity and reduced energy consumption, the VIRM is the ideal transport solution in metropolitan areas. Passengers also benefit from the high level of comfort while travelling on the state-of-the art trains through features Verlengd InterRegio Materieel (VIRM) double-deck trains for Netherlands Railways 8

9 such as low noise level, fully air-conditioned vehicles, comfortable seats, transparent partition walls and lots of storage space for luggage and bicycles. Wide doors enable rapid and safe boarding and alighting. The multiple units are provided with toilets designed to accommodate disabled persons. Manufacturing in Crespin (France) produces the bogies, while Bruges, relying on its long standing engineering and production experience, is responsible for the complete production of the cab cars as well as the final assembly of the trailer cars. Double-deck coaches for Luxembourg Railways (CFL) Bombardier s double-deck coaches are also deployed by Luxembourg Railways (CFL) and include both trailer cars and driving cars for push-pull operations. The coaches offer state-of-the-art passenger comfort and are equipped with a multiple voltage power supply system. The vehicles, which are certified for a speed of 160 km/h, will be deployed on Luxembourg s regional and commuter network, and on cross-border services to Belgium, France and Germany. Double-deck coaches M6 for Belgian Raiways (SNCB) Double-deck coaches, Type M6 for Belgian National Railways (SNCB) Passengers travelling long distance especially appreciate the comfort and the spacious interior the feeling of spaciousness being emphasized by Bombardier s design of asymmetric window arrangements. The coaches combine the latest innovations and proven technologies to enhance comfort of the passenger, while air-conditioning ensures adequate temperature control at all times. Visual displays located at each end of the cars on both levels provide passengers with upcoming destinations. The final destination of the train is indicated on the exterior of the vehicle. With an extra door and adapted restroom, the multi-functional car is designed for the accessibility of passengers with reduced mobility, prams and bicycles. Double-deck passenger coaches and TRAXX locomotives Class 4000 for Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) The design of these vehicles is the result of thorough research to achieve improved comfort for passengers, user-friendliness, space availability and accessibility. It is based on the well-recognized success obtained with the I-11 vehicles in terms of comfort, as well as on expectations and needs expressed by passengers. 10 (Locomotives) Bombardier Transportation offers locomotives and powerheads for use in high speed, intercity, regional and freight traffic, in both electric and diesel-electric versions, to suit the specific needs of railway operators. The Bombardier* TRAXX* locomotives family has become the standard in the industry with innovative, standardized and modular locomotives, offering interoperability, outstanding reliability, long-term availability, as well as excellent maintenance and operational economy. A common feature of all TRAXX locomotives is modular construction, which provides the ability to run with as many as 25 country specific signalling systems and four different power supplies (Diesel-electric locomotives for nonelectrified routes, AC and DC locomotives, and Multisystem locomotives). TRAXX is the most appealing locomotive platform in the emerging trans-european system, where 50% of freight traffic is cross-border. The Bombardier TRAXX locomotive family is the culmination of constant product development and innovation, the result of a long history in locomotive engineering. With more than 7,500 horsepower (a typical Formula 1 racing car has a horsepower of around 800) and speeds of up to 160 km/h for passenger services, this 85-ton workhorse can easily haul a train of 1,600 tons on 12% gradient slopes. To date, Bombardier has sold more than 1,200 TRAXX locomotives to various rail operators worldwide. TRAXX locomotives for CFL Luxembourg Railways (CFL) deploys Bombardier TRAXX locomotives. The dual-voltage Class 4000 locomotives are equipped for operation in Luxemburg, France, Belgium and Germany. Also certified for the Swiss and Austrian railway network, these locomotives are ideally suited for crossborder rail services through Europe. TRAXX locomotives for Angel Trains Angel Trains Cargo placed an order for a further 35 multi-system locomotives from the TRAXX platform at the end of These units and an additional 5 previously ordered multi-system TRAXX units will be leased to B-Cargo, the rail freight subsidiary of Belgian Railways SNCB. 11 TRAXX locomotives, Europe, TRAXX Platform (High Speed Trains) Whilst Bombardier traditionally has been recognised as the global leader in regional trains, and its expertise typically associated with interregional, commuter, metro and light rail segments, Bombardier has also participated in all major projects for European Very High Speed (VHS) trains, including the ICE family of trains in Germany, the ETR 500 in Italy, the AVE 102 in Spain, four different series of TGV in France, as well as international VHS trains such as the Eurostar and the Thalys. Bombardier challenges existing high speed rail concepts with versatile ZEFIRO Bombardier is challenging established high speed train concepts with the advancement of its own ZEFIRO technology. Developed for speeds between 200 and 360 km/h, the new ZEFIRO is designed for maximum versatility and reliability to meet the growing demands for seamless mobility in international and long distance rail travel. After its first market success in China, ZEFIRO technology will be the base solution for Bombardier bids to deliver high speed trains. With extensive knowledge and experience in the field of rail vehicle engineering in the high speed sector, Bombardier* ZEFIRO* is the world s next generation of advanced high speed trains. Applying its significant experience gained over 20 years in the high speed sector, Bombardier created ZEFIRO on the premise that the future of passenger rail depends on combining reliable, proven systems with flexible, energyefficient and evolutionary technology. 12 ( Propulsion and Controls) The propulsion system in a train is responsible for bringing in the required power that makes the trains move to the required speed. The propulsion chain transforms direct or alternating current from either an overhead wire or a third rail through a traction converter, where the electricity is transformed into the appropriate voltages, currents and frequencies needed by the traction motors. The traction motors then generate the mechanical power to drive the wheels. In addition, the auxiliary converter provides power for vehicle control as well as for comfort functions such as lighting, the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air- Conditioning system), or for the power sockets where we plug in our laptops. Whilst the motors are always placed around the bogie, the traction and auxiliary converters are mounted where there is appropriate place in or on the vehicle. For example, to enable trams to have the low floors for passenger comfort, efficient boarding and safety, the traction converters are placed on the roof. In underground metro systems the extra tunnel diameter needed for an overhead pantograph would be prohibitively expensive. Instead, metros normally draw their energy from a third rail under the vehicle. Bombardier Transportation is the leading global provider of ready-to-commission propulsion and controls systems. The Bombardier* MITRAC* propulsion systems cover traction and auxiliary converters, traction motors, gears and Train Control Management Systems (TCMS). The IP-enabled MITRAC TCMS allows increased functionality and integration of control of the vehicle and value adding operational services to increase the competitiveness of rail. The MITRAC Energy Saver can help reduce the energy consumption of a light rail vehicle by up to 30%. Moreover, lower peak current demand means that fewer sub-stations are needed and they can be further apart, which reduces infrastructure cost and impact on nature. Alternatively, the MITRAC Energy Saver can be used as an energy booster. Peak current demand and power reserves are the same as before, yet the traction system is capable of faster acceleration. 13 (Bogies) The Bombardier Transportation bogie portfolio offers reliable and innovative solutions for all market segments and types of rolling stock, from small-sized bogies for light rail vehicles, medium-sized bogies for metros and commuter, regional, inter-city and very high speed trains, as well as large-size bogies for locomotives and heavy haul. Bombardier is the worldwide market leader with an average of 5,000 bogies manufactured per year. In addition, Bombardier Transportation offers a full scope of services throughout the life cycle of bogies. Pivotal for safety and comfort The bogie design has to meet a large variety of standards and regulations, covering safety and comfort. A high degree of expertise and skill is necessary to build bogies that comply with these regulations whilst fulfilling further customer expectations such as low operation and maintenance costs and high reliability. With more than 160 years of bogie expertise, we lead our competitors with about 25% of the bogie market: there are about 200,000 of our bogies in motion in 44 countries. An amazing performer Our bogies typically weigh between 4.5 tons for a Light Rail Vehicle and 16 tons for a locomotive travelling at speeds, in service, up to 330km/h. Mechatronic Bogie: New boost for the intelligent bogie by Bombardier The latest development is the Mechatronic bogie, which is making major advancements that can be applied to high speed, unexclusively. In July 2007, tested on a Bombardier* Regina* train in cooperation with Swedish partner Banverkert within the Green Train project, the bogie reached the speed of 282 km/h in Sweden, representing a new high speed record in the country. In contrast to conventional bogies, which typically utilize passive steering and suspension elements, using in-built sensors, the Mechatronic bogie can intelligently and dynamically adjust its position to improve comfort and optimize curving performance. Whilst it can be used for all types of train, from Light Rail Vehicles to Metro and regional trains, there are particular advantages at high speeds where track maintenance costs, wheel wear, noise, weight and interoperability are highly significant factors. In addition to providing lower wheel and rail wear, the bogies allow for the design of lighter vehicles (up to -5%) high speed traffic and lower energy consumption. 13

14 (Rail Control Solutions) A prerequisite for running any railway operation safely is rail control and signalling. Bombardier is committed to providing rail control solutions to suit all operation s requirements, from the Bombardier* INTERFLO* range of mainline, cross-border and regional solutions to its CITYFLO* mass transit systems. With equipment installed in over 50 countries and a century s experience in developing, engineering and installing advanced rail control and signalling systems, Bombardier is the ideal partner to deliver state-of-the-art, safe equipment. We pride ourselves on the high life expectancy of our low maintenance products, which can be adapted to the regulations of different countries worldwide. To match a customer s specific need we offer the respective CITYFLO mass transit solution or INTERFLO mainline solution together with the constituent Bombardier* EBI* products. The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) ERTMS is a cutting-edge signalling standard being deployed not only in Europe, but across the world. This supplier-independent rail signalling standard allows trains to cross international borders safely without having to change locomotive or driver. ERTMS is becoming the global train control system of choice, designed to cope with train speeds up to 500km/h with the highest levels of safety. With ERTMS, advance knowledge of track status and movement authority becomes a very valuable commodity for drivers to operate sympathetically in their use of energy, thereby supporting concerns for long-term environmental sustainability. Bombardier has taken the lead in providing ERTMS technology through its INTERFLO range of solutions. Using proven technology, INTERFLO systems are in operation across Europe and Asia with more than 8,500 trains equipped in 17 countries. European Railways has chosen Bombardier s balise wayside transmission technology as the basis of ERTMS, with approximately 240,000 Eurobalises installed and in use today. Bombardier provides a comprehensive range of the systems needed for a complete solution, ranging from point machines for mainline and lightrail applications, track circuits, axle counters, signals, level crossing equipment, balises, interlockings and train management (control centre) systems. 15 EBI Link Eurobalise Pro Rail Following the successful demonstration of European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1 and Level 2 technology on the Bev21 Pilot Line (Meppel-Leeuwarden), ProRail awarded Bombardier a contract for the design, supply, installation, test and commissioning of the signalling system for the upgraded Amsterdam-Utrecht corridor. The 30.5 km, four-track route between Amsterdam (Duivendrecht Station) and Utrecht Central Station includes 6 stations, 3 major junctions and is one of the busiest lines in the Netherlands with over 500 trains per day. The INTERFLO 450 system provided supports mixed signalling, supporting both conventional colour light signalling with ATB and ETCS Level 2. The scope includes a 6 year service agreement covering all aspects of maintenance and service support. This signalling solution forms the basis to meet ProRail s ongoing interlocking renewal needs. ETSC Border Transition Balises Roosendaal-Essen At Roosendaal-Essen, at the Dutch-Belgian border, Bombardier has supplied, installed, tested and commissioned the ERTMS balises needed to facilitate the transfer of locomotives equipped with ETCS and national Specific Transmission Modules (STMs) between the existing Dutch ATB system ( Automatische Trein Beïnvloeding ) and MEMOR, Belgium s National Automated Train Protection System. Rail transport optimisation for Belgian Railways SNCB Under the ATLAS Project, Bombardier has a partnership with SNCB to provide its INTERFLO 50 telematics solution. The system is at the heart of operational and strategic management of SNCB s rolling stock fleet with more than 2,100 GPS equipped EBI Star onboard units. The EBI Star units report position, deviation from timetable, speed and kilometres run as well as maintenance information via GSM or GSM-R to a central database. This data provides train dispatchers with a graphical view of planned rolling stock utilisation overlaid with real-time status. A mapping function allows them to dynamically see the exact location of all vehicles in Belgium and neighbouring countries. In addition, the open database structure supports interfaces to SNCB s strategic planning tools and other business applications for longer term planning. The ATLAS project won the prestigious Belgium ICT Trends Gold Award and Bombardier s ongoing 10 year maintenance agreement ensures a continued high level of performance for SNCB. Looking to the future, the INTERFLO 50 implementation provides an excellent basis to add functionality, such as staff planning and Bombardier s EBI Drive 50 driving style manager to improve energy efficiency and timetable adherence. Such dynamic transitions are an important feature of Bombardier s ETCS solution as installed in new Bombardier TRAXX locomotives and retrofitted into existing Dutch freight locomotives. 15

18 (Driverless Systems) Our unique expertise in developing, designing and building turnkey transportation systems includes extensive experience in complete project financing, public private partnership approaches and more than 30 years of operations and maintenance experience. We typically supply the electrical and mechanical systems, plus full responsibility for project management, systems engineering and integration, and systems testing and verification. Additionally, we provide a full range of operations and maintenance services, as well as strategies to improve our customers' existing services. With a global perspective, we work in partnership with major international, regional and local civil engineering and construction companies to carefully tailor transportation systems to suit the needs of our customers. Advanced Rapid Transit (ART) is an intermediate capacity system that features automated unattended operation using Bombardier s innovative linear induction motor propulsion technology. Principal benefits of this steel rail/steel wheel technology include the ability to operate at very high service frequencies, easy system expandability, and all weather operation on challenging alignments. ART is remarkably well-suited to a variety of applications including regional urban transit, downtown and airport circulation/distribution, and airport-to-downtown connections. Automated People Mover, Rome, Leonardo da Vinci Airport APM The Bombardier Monorail is the world's only fully automated and driverless, medium capacity urban monorail system. Quiet and streamlined, the monorail fits ideally into mixeduse urban corridors. With space-age composite bodies that are very strong but extremely light, additional benefits include reduced infrastructure impacts, low energy consumption and enhanced system performance. In Europe, Asia, and North America, our Automated People Movers (APMs) have carried more than three billion passengers. These rubber-tired vehicles offer room for up to 100 people per car at speeds of up to 80 km/h on a segregated guide way, in trains of one-to-four cars.
