23 V. BATTERIES AND CHARGING BATTERIES AND CHARGING-FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS) How does the charger work? Whe your scooter s battery voltage is low, the charger works harder, sedig more electrical curret to the batteries to brig up their charge. As the batteries approach a full charge, the charger seds less ad less electrical curret. Whe the batteries are fully charged, the curret set from the charger is at early zero amperage. Therefore, whe the charger is plugged i, it maitais the charge o your scooter s batteries, but does ot overcharge them. We do ot recommed that you charge your scooter s batteries for more tha 24 cosecutive hours. What if my scooter s batteries wo t charge? Esure that the red (+) ad black (-) battery cables are coected properly to the battery termials. Esure both battery haresses that exted from the batteries are plugged ito their matig haress leadig to the charger. Esure that both eds of the charger power lead are iserted fully. Ca I use a differet charger? For the safest, most efficiet, ad balaced chargig of your scooter s batteries, we prefer ad highly recommed simultaeous chargig of both batteries with the oboard battery charger. How ofte must I charge the batteries? Two major factors must be cosidered whe decidig how ofte to charge your scooter s batteries: All day scooter use o a daily basis. Ifrequet or sporadic scooter use. With these cosideratios i mid, you ca determie how ofte ad for how log you should charge your scooter s batteries. We desiged the oboard charger so that it will ot overcharge your scooter s batteries. However, you may ecouter some problems if you do ot charge your batteries ofte eough ad if you do ot charge them o a regular basis. Followig the guidelies below will provide safe ad reliable battery operatio ad chargig. If you use your scooter daily, charge its batteries as soo as you fiish usig it for the day. Your scooter will be ready each morig to give you a full day of service. We recommed that you charge your scooter s batteries for 8 to 14 hours after daily use. If you use your scooter oce a week or less, charge its batteries at least oce a week for 12 to 14 hours at a time. Keep your scooter s batteries fully charged. Avoid deeply dischargig your scooter s batteries. How ca I esure maximum battery life? Fully charged deep-cycle batteries provide reliable performace ad exteded battery life. Keep your scooter s batteries fully charged wheever possible. Batteries that are regularly ad deeply discharged, ifrequetly charged, or stored without a full charge may be permaetly damaged, causig ureliable performace ad limited service life. Rally 23

24 V. BATTERIES AND CHARGING How ca I get maximum rage or distace per charge? Rarely will you have ideal drivig coditios smooth, flat, hard drivig surfaces with o wid or curves. Ofte, you will face hills, pavemet cracks, ueve ad loosely packed surfaces, curves, ad wid, all of which affect the distace or ruig time per battery charge. Below are a few suggestios for obtaiig the maximum rage per battery charge. Always fully charge your scooter s batteries prior to daily use. Maitai psi (pouds per square ich) i each tyre. Pla your route ahead to avoid as may hills, cracked, broke, or soft surfaces as possible. Limit your baggage weight to essetial items. Try to maitai a eve speed while your scooter is i motio. Avoid stop-ad-go drivig. What type ad size of battery should I use? We recommed deep-cycle batteries that are sealed ad maiteace free. Both sealed lead-acid ad gel cell are deep-cycle batteries that are similar i performace. Do ot use wet-cell batteries, which have removable caps. CAUTION! Do ot remove the caps from sealed batteries. Water caot be added to sealed batteries. Cap removal voids the battery warraty ad may cause damage to the batteries ad to your scooter. Use these specificatios to reorder deep-cycle batteries: Type: Deep-cycle (sealed lead-acid or gel cell) Size: U-1 (32 AH oly) Voltage: 12 volts each Amperage: 32 AH, 17 AH To chage a battery i your scooter: WARNING! Battery posts, termials, ad related accessories cotai lead ad lead compouds. Wash hads after hadlig. 1. Remove the seat ad rear shroud. 2. Discoect the battery tie-dow strap. 3. If you ited to use public trasportatio with your scooter, you must cotact the trasportatio provider i advace to determie their specific requiremets. 24 Rally

25 V. BATTERIES AND CHARGING Why do my ew batteries seem weak? Deep-cycle batteries employ a differet chemical techology tha that used i car batteries, ickel-cadmium batteries (icads), ad other commo battery types. Deep-cycle batteries are specifically desiged to provide power, drai dow their charge, ad the accept a relatively quick recharge. We work closely with our battery maufacturer to provide batteries that best suit your scooter s specific electrical demads. Fresh batteries arrive daily at Pride ad are shipped fully charged to our customers. Durig shippig, the batteries may ecouter temperature extremes that ca ifluece their iitial performace. Heat dimiishes the charge o the battery; cold slows the available power ad exteds the time eeded to recharge the battery. It may take a few days for the temperature of your scooter s batteries to stabilise ad adjust to their ew room or ambiet temperature. More importatly, it takes a few chargig cycles (partial draiig followed by full rechargig) to establish the critical chemical balace that is essetial to a deep-cycle battery s peak performace ad log life. Follow these steps to properly break-i your scooter s ew batteries for maximum efficiecy ad service life. 1. Fully recharge ay ew battery prior to its iitial use. This chargig cycle brigs the battery up to about 88% of its peak performace level. 2. Operate your ew scooter i familiar ad safe areas. Drive slowly at first, ad do ot travel too far from your home or familiar surroudigs util you have become accustomed to your scooter s cotrols ad have properly broke i your scooter s batteries. 3. Fully recharge the batteries. They should be at over 90% of their peak performace level. 4. Operate your scooter agai. 5. Fully recharge the batteries agai. 6. After four or five chargig cycles, the batteries are able to receive a charge of 100% of their peak performace level ad are able to last for a exteded period of time. How should I store my scooter ad its batteries? If you pla o ot usig your scooter for a exteded period of time, it is best to: Fully charge its batteries prior to storage. Discoect both battery haresses. Store your scooter i a warm, dry eviromet. Avoid storig your scooter where it will be exposed to temperature extremes. WARNING! If your scooter s batteries do become froze, do ot attempt to charge them. Cold or froze batteries should be allowed to warm up for several days prior to rechargig. For prologed storage, you may wish to place several boards uder the frame of your scooter to raise it off of the groud. This takes the weight off the tyres ad reduces the possibility of flat spots developig o the areas of the tyres cotactig the groud. Rally 25
