2 Purpose This document explains how to reconnect your battery after air transport Background To comply with international air shipping requirements, Standard Bearer Machines, LLC disconnects the battery inside of the controller case to minimize risk associated with transporting lithium ion batteries embedded in your Rungu. Lithium Ion batteries have been the source of numerous incidents in flight cell phones to airplane back-up electrical systems. These incidents include venting (smoke as in the Boeing Dreamliner incident) and thermal runaway (fire as in the Samsung Note incident). Lithium Ion batteries have the highest likelihood of venting or thermal runaway when they are actively powering a circuit or if they are ruptured. Your Rungu protects the battery system inside two metal boxes attached to the frame the battery box and the controller box to prevent rupture. For air transport, Standard Bearer Machines, LLC also disconnects the battery in such a way that the battery cannot power the motor or motor controller, which avoids venting or thermal runaway. 3 Battery Box Removal and Access to the Connector Caution: This procedure requires lifting an up-to 15 lb. (6.8 kg) battery with one hand. Enlist the help of a bicycle technician or other technician to complete the procedure if you are unable. 1. Use the controller case key on the side of the controller case to unlock the battery box. 4 2. Engage the parking brake (See Electric Juggernaut LE User Manual) and remove the battery from the controller case. Grasp the top and bottom of the battery case; pull and tilt it away from the controller case. 3. Use two hands to carefully remove the battery case by sliding it up and forward from the battery and controller case. Caution: the battery case weighs more than 15 lbs. (6.8 kg) be careful not to drop the case as it may bend the casing, making battery replacement difficult or impossible without repair 4. 5 Finding, Reconnecting and Connecting the Battery Connector 1. Look inside the Controller Case for two yellow connectors. 2. Gently pull the cable connectors out from under the metal shelf where the cable is stored. 3. Connect the two yellow connectors. Copyright 2018 Standard Bearer Machines, LLC Page 5 of 8

6 4. Replace the cable underneath the metal shelf and press the yellow connector under the shelf the yellow connectors act as wedge to keep the cable in place. Caution: be careful to place the connector and cable in the same place where you found them so that the cables do not interfere with the reinsertion of the battery box. The image above shows too much of the red cable it should be tucked behind the large black connector so that it s not visible as it may interfere with the reinsertion of the battery box. 7 Replacing the Battery Box Caution: This procedure requires lifting an up-to 15 lb. (6.8 kg) battery with one hand. Enlist the help of a bicycle technician or other technician to complete the procedure if you are unable. 1. Replace the battery case into the controller case at an angle with the connector end facing towards the top. 2. Slide the battery case so that the tab at the back of the case slides into the controller case. Caution: When placing the battery case into the controller case, be careful to insert the tab into the controller case. Not inserting the tab into the controller case can result in the battery failing to make contact and the battery case falling out of the controller case resulting in damage to the battery case. 8 3. When the battery case cannot slide any further, pivot the battery case into the controller case as far as it will go. 4. Use the key to lock the battery case in position. 5. Check that the case is locked by pulling on the battery case as though to remove it a second time. When the case is secure and in position, you are ready to go!
