Box 130 Ripley, Ontario NOG 2RO Date: November 12, 2012 Attention: RE : Sonya Watson, clerk@huronkinloss.com Mayor Mitch Twolan, mitch.twolan@ remax-ix.ca Municipal Council Support Resolution for Solar Project Wilken Dairy Farm in Ripley The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has launched its revised Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) Program as of May 7, The FIT Program Version 2.0 recognizes the value of municipal input and support of solar power systems in their respective communities. In an effort to obtain your support and input, EthoSolar wishes to approach the Leadership of the Township Huron-Kinloss on behalf of Murray John Wilken, who is a member of Simcoe County Community Energy Co-operative (SCCEC). Through the enclosed documentation, EthoSolar would like to present the rationale for your support of Wilken Dairy Farm solar project located in Ripley. Renewable energy is a fascinating new world and we strongly believe in the importance of helping educate our communities on how solar systems work and how to best harness this income generating opportunity. Why this solar power project benefits the Township Huron-Kinloss The benefits to supporting Solar Power installations in your community include, but are not limited to the following: Developing new employment opportunities. Each new project increases the potential for several full-time positions to cover the maintenance over the 20 year contracts once approved; Increased property values; Generating revenues that are designed to remain local; Taking advantage of the magnitude of available electrical grid capacity in the Township Huron-Kinloss; Demonstrating your municipality's commitment to becoming a sustainable community. It is our intention to work with the Township Huron-Kinloss on behalf of Murray John Wilken as we compile their FIT 2.0 Application for Wilken Dairy Farm solar project located at 3065 Concession 4 in Ripley. Given the latest requirements to receive a FIT contract from Ontario Power Authority, Simcoe County Community Energy Co-op must have the support of the Council for this particular project. Projects such as this one will not likely proceed without written resolution confirming the Municipal Council's support. Simcoe County Community Energy Co-op is responsible for ensuring all facets of the project come together including the application process for a FIT 2.0 contract.
2 Enclosed you will find the following documentation: 1. Simcoe County Community Energy Co-operative Introduction to Simcoe County Community Energy Co-operative; 2. Project Overview Property owner information and project description including an aerial perspective of the project location and an overview of the equipment to be installed ; 3. OPA Form Ontario Power Authority Prescribed FormlTemplate: Municipal Council Support Resolution (for signature by representatives of the Township Huron-Kinloss ). OUR REQUEST TO COUNCIL Simcoe County Community Energy Co-op is requesting that Council would pass a resolution of support and issue bylaws in support of Wilken Dairy Farm solar project in Ripley. By doing so, the Council would ensure this solar power project will receive two (2) Priority Points required in the Ontario Power Authority FIT 2.0 application process. Once a FIT contract has been awarded by the OPA, Simcoe County Community Energy Co-op will be granted a Return-on-Investment that will spur clean, renewable energy at a minimum of 20 years in the Township Huron-Kinloss. The attached OPA Form must be signed off by an official representative and returned to or collected by the offices of EthoSolar Inc. EthoSolar is dedicated to working with the Township Huron-Kinloss, Ontario Power Authority, HydroOne and the local distribution company to help move this solar project forward. We would be delighted to further discuss the opportunities for renewable energy in your community and answer questions specific to this particular project. We can be reached at (705) or via . Please advise on how we can further approach Council and/or the Township's staff to process a request for Municipal Council Support Resolution. Best regards, Danny Mueller Project Specialist danny@ethosolar.com Michelle Bloom Contreras Marketing Manager michelle@ethosolar.com Enclosures When you support local solar power projects, you are al so: Reducing your impact on the environment Supporting th e development of new, re newable electri city generation in Ontario Reducing the community's reliance on fossil fuels Sending a strong message about the importance of re newable electricity in your community
3 Simcoe County Community Energy Co-operative INTRODUCTION TO SIMCOE COUNTY COMMUNITY ENERGY CO-OPERATIVE Simcoe County Community Energy Co-operative (SCCEC) is a Co-op that was developed with the goal to give people the chance to promote environmental awareness while also creating good investment opportunities. SCCEC is a for-profit business venture that seeks to offer an attractive and sustainable investment vehicle for members of the community. This will help the community to generate revenues that are designed to remain local and improve the overall wealth of the municipality. Environmental In its initial phase, SCCEC will invest its resources into Solar PV where it will aim to build a large number of Solar PV rooftop projects. These Solar PV projects not only provide affordable electricity for decades to come, but also help reduce our carbon footprint which will helping preserve the beautiful landscape we enjoy in Simcoe County and across the province of Ontario. Rooftop installations demonstrate a leading edge commitment to sustainability, which is a valuable marketing asset for any municipality. Investment Membership with the SCCEC will pay approximately 6% annual interest plus a dividend share which will vary from year to year. The SCCEC will also allow for members of the community who own property to participate/invest in Renewable Energy and receive compensation from the Ontario Power Authority. This investment can be very lucrative for property owners in Ontario. It will enable residents to generate additional income which will give them disposable income which they in turn can invest in the municipality. Municipality It is the intent of SCCEC engage the public, particularly property owners to participate as members of the SCCEC. By doing so SCCEC helps spread the benefits that come with investing in Renewable Energy among the residents of Ontario. The SCCEC allows and encourages anyone to become a member and enjoy the benefits of being a part of SCCEC.
