4 Green Infrastructure (GI) is a strategically planned network of high quality natural and semi-natural areas with other environmental features, which is designed and managed to deliver a wide range of ecosystem services [...]. (European Commission 2013: 3) GI comprises more than the green elements of a city, but is a planning approach!

11 ERDF Call Green Infrastructure NRW Goal: Sustainable Improvement of natural environment and environmental conditions for biodiversity and people in districts, cities and suburban areas in NRW Approach: Improve ecosystems and their services via green infrastructure to support social cohesion (environmental justice) Budget: 83 Mil. ( 50% EU, 30-40% NRW, own contribution) 1 call, 2 application deadlines for integrated development concepts (Winter 2016, Summer 2017) Target groups concepts: Municipalities, municipal associations, intercommunal cooperatives Target groups measures: municipalities, municipal associations, (intercommunal) cooperatives, clubs, public institutions, SMEs, freelancer

12 Idea of the integrated development concepts Analysis Identify the area with the most ecological, climatic, social, demographic and economic challenges Analyse the GI (structure, functions, services) with regard to the GI characterstics in this area Objectives Formulate GI objectives to address the challenges Rank objectives according to priority Measures Develop action strategy Identify fitting GI measures to adress the challenges and such improve the area in a whole
