2 2015 was a banner year for Mountain Parks Electric s (MPE s) Green Power Program. The program awarded more than $40,000 in rebates to photovoltaic (PV) systems and electric vehicle charging stations installed within the MPE Service Territory. Since 2011, the Green Power Program has awarded $104,500 to local renewable projects and electric vehicle charging stations, and continues to carry out its mission: to assist MPE members who generate electricity with local renewable resources, thus benefitting the area s economy. MPE s 2015 (79) Net Metered Customers: CUMULATIVE capacity: kilowatts SOLAR: kilowatts WIND: 11.3 kilowatts The Green Power Program was established in Prior to January 1, 2011, all funds were used to purchase renewable energy credits outside of MPE s service territory. Now these funds are rebated to local renewable energy installations. MPE s keeping it local Green Power Program vision has attracted more than 1,000 monthly contributors. In August, 2015, MPE and Simply Efficient sponsored a free public tour (photographed below) of local renewable projects within its service territory. Twenty-one MPE members attended the event, which featured renewable projects at three residences that received MPE Green Power Program rebates. 1

3 Program Funding: Easy, Convenient, Affordable Although some contribute $100 a month, any MPE member can support the program by contributing as little as $0.50 a month a charge added to your electric bill. One-time and annual contributions are also accepted. The board will consider applications from all MPE members. Grants are paid to grant recipients AFTER installations are complete, in effect making them rebates. 5 Local Renewable Project Case Study: Middle Park High School Granby, Colorado Through a joint venture by MPE, Toyota Corporation, Freeport-McMoRan and Simply Efficient, a 2.07 kilowatt PV array was installed in Granby, Colorado in the Spring of 2010 at the Middle Park High School. The array consists of nine 230-watt panels, each with micro-inverters and a sun-tracking system. Total installed cost: ~$22,034 ($10.77/watt). Electric generation and estimated payback for the project are as follows: As of (2,133 days), the 2.07-kW array has generated 23,771 kilowatt-hours. This equals: - $2,335 retail value of electricity produced: (7,420 $0.093, 8,270 $0.099, $0.102) kilowatt-hours/day (~5.4 kwh per day per kw of capacity) - ~22% of rated nameplate capacity Estimated payback: 28 years (assumption: price of retail energy will increase 4%/year). Installed cost (excluding donated labor & federal and state subsidies): $22,034 (calculated in April 2011). NOTE: In the fall of 2013, a PV tracking array (250-watt panels) similar to the MPHS system was installed locally. That system was pole mounted with Zome single-axis tracking. It cost $5.20 per watt (40% less than the 2010 MPHS system). Pole-mounted tracking system installation costs are still higher than fixed systems (some less than $3 a watt in 2014). However, trackers enable generation later in the day displacing more expensive generation. 4
