3 Plating Wax Engine and landing gear components are often plated to provide heat and wear resistance. During the plating process, wax is used to mask-off areas of these component which do not require plating. After the plating process, the wax must be removed.

4 Fixturing Compounds Castable, thermoplastic materials designed to stabilize, support or hold parts that are otherwise difficult to fixture. Once fixtured, subsequent manufacturing can occur. Ex. Laser cut turbine blades require fixturing. After fixturing, compounds must be removed. 4

15 Wax loading in the BIOACT 280 bath Can load 25% - 50% wax depending on wax type. Bath life ranges from 9-30 months. As the wax builds up, the wax/280 blend can turn solid at lower than operating temperatures. If allowed to load to this level, care must be taken at change-out. Disposal: Non-hazardous - used in fuel blending 15

16 Wax Loading Study Compare the wax loading potential of BIOACT 280 and BIOACT 280E while maintaining cleaning effectiveness. To maximize wax loading, Petroferm recommends an alkaline rinse aid such as CleanSafe 787C 16

17 Wax Loading Test Procedure 1. Prepare solutions containing 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50% AEROWAX MT. 2. Immerse coupons coated with AEROWAX MT in the wax loaded bath of BIOACT 280/280E at 200 F (93 C) for 10 minutes 3. Rinse in a 10% solution of CleanSafe 787C at 175 F (80 C) for 5 minutes with eductor nozzle agitation. 4. Rinse in DI water at 160 F (71 C) for 5 minutes with moderate agitation. 5. Test for cleanliness using the Water Break Test with fresh DI water. 6. Record percent of maximum wax loading as the last concentration that passes the Water Break Test. 17
