e u r o p e a n What is EASA? architecture students assembly easa (European Architecture Students Assembly) is a European network of young architects and architecture students.

Every summer, the assembly is held in a dif ferent country, with 500 students, graduates and tutors living together in a self-sustaining, community-like setting.

Every summer, the assembly is held in a dif ferent country, with 500 students, graduates and tutors living together in a self-sustaining, community-like setting. Over the course of two weeks, they partake in workshops which they organize themselves as well as lectures and other architectural and cultural functions. These workshops vary from theory, construction, photography, performance and multimedia-oriented workshops to those concerned with the maintenance of the event itself like culinary workshops. During the past few years, they have participated in several easa assemblies and have been active in professional and academic circles alike. easa 2018, with its subject re: and based in Rijeka, has been selected over five other suggestions at the accompanying easa s event (incm Madrid 2016) in October of The conference will be held in July and August of 2018 and it will last for 2 weeks. The programme will contain an educational segment including workshops and lectures as well as an entertainment segment with excursions, a musical programme and other activities. easa s participants will reside and sleep in buildings and locations arranged for their stay in Rijeka and will be provided with all necessary facilities. In addition, events which will precede the assembly are being planned: public forums and workshops with the citizens of Rijeka, informative lectures, the official introductory easa s event itm (International Tutors Meeting) as well as events following the conclusion of the assembly: exhibitions, lectures, the publishing of a final report. 1 7

Around a hundred international students interested in preparing and leading workshops for easa 2018 participated in the meeting. It was primarily concerned with scouting the sites as well as the lectures with experts who presented different topics and locations relevant to the conference. Discussions and workshops were held as well, during which the participants familiarized themselves with and defined problems of the contexts of the site. The aim of the meeting was to define workshop assignments as well as to gather information for the project s future development. It will put emphasis on interdisciplinary activities, combining the field of architecture with those of sociology, economy and cultural studies. The workshops will challenge ideas related to Rijeka s spatial and societal context along with general issues of the topic, while the organization and conference itself will be an experiment in applying advocated concepts of re:easa in a community. The aim of utilizing waste in every aspect of the community s life and the activities of the workshops is to accomplish a long-lasting and positive spatial change for the community that uses it. Since the dialogue with everything local is the foundation of the conference, the workshops will be created, locations determined and projects chosen in collaboration with the city government, local community and local professional institutions.
