8 EN :2006 (E) 1 Scope This standard specifies requirements for footwear to protect the Jser against specific chemicals. This standard does not apply to footwear with leather outsoles. NOTE Requirements for slip resistance are not given in the current (2004) editions of EN SO 20345, EN SO or EN SO CENTC 161 Working Group 3 is continuing its work to develop slip requirements and it is expected that EN will be amended as soon as this work is finished. 2 Normative references.c The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. Footwear protecting against chemicals mayor may not include a toe cap. The choice shall be made from one of the three columns (EN SO 20345, EN SO or EN SO 20347) in Table 2. if, ; 6

NOTE 2 Letters B to L are identical to those given in EN : 2003, Annex A Degradation resistance For footwear resistance to degradation by chemicals, at least two chemicals chosen in Table 4 shall be tested. Other chemicals may be used according to the intended use General A footwear item protecting against chemicals shall be tested according to EN :2006, 4.2. The sale and upper shall both be tested with the same chemicals. 9

Other chemicals may be used according to the intended use. 6.3 Outsole When outsoles from classification 1 footwear are tested in accordance with EN SO 20344: 2004, 8.3, the relative volume loss shall be not greater than 350 mm 3 for materials with a density of 0,9 g/cm 3 or less and not greater than 250 mm 3 for materials with a density greater than 0,9 g/cm 3. When outsoles from classification" footwear are tested as described in EN SO 20344: 2004, 8.3, the relative volume loss shall be not greater than 350 mm 3. 10

15 EN : Additional requirements for footwear protecting against chemicals For a specific application, in accordance with the intended use, it may be necessary to define additional requirements. n such case, footwear resistant to chemicals shall also conform to the appropriate additional requirements given in Table 6. All information shall be unambiguous. Each item of safety footwear shall be clearly and permanently marked, for example by embossing or branding. The following information shall be given in the marking. a) size; 11

16 EN :2006 (E) b) name and full address of the manufacturer and/or its authorized representative; c) manufacturer's type designation; d) year of manufacture and at least quarter; e) reference to the present standard EN : 2006 with the letter code of the tested chemical given in Table 4. The protection of the toe shall be given with the following: "200J" if the toe cap fulfils EN SO 20345: 2004, requ irements "100J" if the toe cap fulfils EN SO 20346: 2004, requirements For example, a footwear item (with a toe cap fulfilling EN SO 20345: 2004, 5.3.2) that has passed the test for acetone and nitric acid (65 ± 3) % shall be marked: EN J 8-M L :- : f) The use of the "operating instructions" symbol is mandatory and shall be as in Figure 2. g) The use of the "protection against chemicals" symbol is not mandatory. f it is used, it shall be as in Figure 3.. ;: 0-7.~ c_ :.. ::.~ ;i ~ NOTE f the footwear fulfils all the requirements of EN SO or EN SO or EN SO 20347, this standard may be marked additionally on the product. The leaflet shall carry the symbol for "operating instructions", which shall be as shown in Figure 2 12

17 EN :2006 (E) 9.2 nstructions for use and related information The following information shall be included in the information leaflet: a) explanation of any symbols (including the code letters for chemicals), markings and levels of performance and a basic explanation of the tests that have been applied to the footwear, if applicable; b) instructions for use: 1) any tests to be carried out by the wearer before use; 2) fitting - how to put on and take off the footwear; 3) application - information on possible uses and, where detailed information is available, the source; 4) list of the chemicals to which the footwear has been found to be resistant; ti" -: ::. ~ ;, ;-..=,.;! - ;:; - ~~ -;., - ;;~,... if =,... " if. =", ",~ ' Z -. -".. -- :...-,:,~. ~Z f., ~1 5) limitations of use (e.g. temperature range); 6) instructions for storage and maintenance, with maximum periods between maintenance checks. f important, drying procedures shall be given; 7) instructions for cleaning and/or decontamination; 8) obsolescence deadline or period of obsolescence; 9) if appropriate, warnings against problems likely to be encountered (modifications can invalidate the type approval, e.g. orthopaedic footwear); 10) additional illustrations, part numbers, etc. c) reference to any accessories and spare parts; d) type of packaging suitable for transport. 9.3 Electrical properties The leaflet shall contain the information specified in EN 20345: 2004, 8.2.1, or as appropriate. -J. 9.4 Properties of protection against chemicals Each pair of footwear protecting against chemicals shall be supplied with a leaflet containing the following wording. :. "You are using footwear to protect against chemical risk. This product has been assessed according to EN The footwear has been tested with different chemicals given in the table below. The protection has been assessed under laboratory conditions and relates only to the chemicals given. The wearer should be aware that in case of contact with other chemicals or with physical stresses (high temperature, abrasion for example), tile protection given by the footwear may be adversely affected and necessary precautions should be taken." 13
