2 Overview of work progress - Testing (Task 1): Preparation of instruments, staff training (Sensors Semtech- D): July 26-30: Delivery of the Semtech-D system to in Ispra- Tests (on engine test bench and diesel passenger car) - Staff training. Preparation of instruments, staff training (Horiba OBS-1000): August 16-27: Delivery of the Horiba OBS-1000 system to EC- DG JRC in Ispra- Tests (on engine test bench and diesel mini van) and staff training. Testing and validation of PEMS analyzers September 6-17: Characterization of gas analyzers (both OBS and Semtech) on ESC and ETC cycles. Preparation of instruments (Flow meter for the Sensors Semtech-D): August-September: Preparation and pre-validation of a new exhaust flow meter (Pitot type) Testing and validation of exhaust flow meters: October 4-8: Testing of Semtech-D system with new Pitot exhaust flow meter 2

3 Overview of work progress - Testing (Task 2): Road tests with mini-van August 16-27: Road tests conducted on JRC Ispra site with Horiba OBS-1000 to reproduce chassis dynamometer driving cycle and evaluate the reproducibility of road measurements. Preparation of CAN communication with the vehicle Cursor10 ECU Characterization of Iveco Cursor10 engine and preparation of vehicle August-September: Complete engine characterization tests (Maps, emissions on reference cycles) conducted at Iveco Turin. IVECO IVECO Characterization of Volvo engine and preparation of vehicle Engine characterization tests (Maps, emissions on reference cycles) conducted at Volvo Gothenburg. 5 Overview of work progress - Meetings (Part 1): PEMS planning meeting July 5, Brussels Motor Vehicles Emissions Group meeting July 7, Brussels, Presentation of the PEMS project Meeting between DG-JRC and West Virginia University July 26-27: VWU (Prof. Gautam) reported on their testing experience with on-board instrumentation. A co-operation agreement between DG-JRC and WVU has been proposed to formalize a contribution of WVU to the project (Availability of a MEMS unit and WVU expertise for specific topics) Meeting between DG-JRC and IDIADA July 30, Videoconference. Discussion around the contribution by IDIADA, which is potentially the co-ordination of city bus testing (Final confirmation expected within October- November 2004) Meeting between DG-JRC and RWTUEV September 2, Ispra. Discussion about on board related issues and on-going measurement campaigns. Evaluation of solutions for ECU data transfer and engine torque measurement. Preparatory meeting between DG-JRC and Daimler-Chrysler for the second laboratory campaign September 16, Stuttgart Semtech users group meeting September 30, Presentation of objectives and progress for European PEMS project Preparatory meeting between DG-JRC and Iveco for the road test campaign October 12, Torino 5
