NIBS: When reading item descriptions, please assume each nib is original for its pen, and is 14K gold, unless otherwise noted. ******************************************************************************************************************* Featured: Parker Vacumatic Pens and Pencils Part of George Parker s genius was knowing the importance of the need to change. The button-filler pen was very successful for Parker, but he knew that eventually it would need to be replaced. In 1927 a Professor at the University of Wisconsin was granted a patent for a new filling mechanism. Because he was both having difficulty perfecting it, and financial resources were tight, he offered the patent to Parker. Parker also had the foresight to hire a designer, Joseph Platt, who both assisted with the design of the pen to house the new filling mechanism, and designed Parker s new arrow trademark. Parker worked with Dupont which developed the laminated celluloid for the pen, and Parker quickly patented the design. Five years and over $125,000 later (in 1925 dollars!) Parker had the filling mechanism perfected and the fascinating new pen ready to test market! The model was called the Golden Arrow and test marketing started in It was extremely successful, despite the throws of the depression. Orders inundated the factory and the first production pieces were shipped in October. Less than a month later the name was changed to the Vacuum Filler. In June 1933 the name was once again changed, this time to Vacuumatic, a name which held for the next 15 years, when the line was phased out due to the great success of Parker s next great innovation the Parker 51!

3 Extraordinary Pens 1 Waterman LF in sterling silver Bayleaf overlay. One of Waterman s most beautiful patterns. Rare. Fine, stiff nib. Near mint. 2 Montblanc Baby Safety eyedropper-fill in BHR. An extremely hard model to find, especially in its signed original box. Perfect imprint, knurling and star. Fine nib. Unrestored. Near mint. 3 Montblanc LF Chef D Oeuvre in BHR. GFT. Chef D Oeuvre is French for Meisterstuck and was used on the caps of Meisterstuck pens MB made for the French market. MB lever-fill pens are extremely rare, this one triply so, due to it s large size, the markings for France, and it is the top-of-the-line model. Correct MB 18CT nib. 4 Parker Click Filler in Black Hard Rubber. One of the rarest Parkers, and highly sought by collectors. No oxidation of the rubber, but some wear to the left half of the barrel imprint. Medium/broad, flexible nib. 5 Conklin 1903 Model M51" #5 size Taper-cap Crescent-fill in Black Chased Hard Rubber. Set off beautifully with two wide gold-filled repousse barrel bands. Very rare, early model in outstanding condition! 6 Parker 1922 Duofold Jr. BF in Cardinal Hard Rubber. Very rare, first year bandless model, with the largest of the three sizes of barrel imprints. Extremely rare, especially in new-old-stock, mint condition. Most of the early bandless Duofold caps cracked due to posting. This is an outstanding example. GFT. Fine point. 7 Osmia 1928 Supra Extra BF in Lapis. GFT. Of Osmia s four Supra sizes, the Extra is the largest. A very rare and beautiful pen! Broad, extra-flexible nib. A tad of imprint wear (fully readable), otherwise near mint. 8 Pelikan PIF in 14K Solid Gold. Alternating narrow plain & wide pinstripe panels (center stripes are wavy). Different pattern than below. Knurled turning knob. Amber barrel window. Cap engraved: "A Miguel A. Roque Los Empleados de Contabikidad del Puerto de Bs. As Fine, flex nib. No dents/dings. Near mint. 9 Pelikan PIF in 14K Solid Gold Cap & Barrel. Alternating wide & pinstripe panels (center stripes form a row of diamonds within the pinstriping). Different pattern than above. Amber celluloid barrel window. Knurled turning knob. Medium nib. No dents or dings. Near mint. 10 Montblanc Masterpiece PIF in Black with outer Sterling Silver Cap Bands (otherwise GFT). Very rare! This is actually a transition model, with a 1941 date code on the barrel and a 1942 narrow band cap. We tend to think that all model transitions were made on January 1, but of course this wasn t the case. 5 Parker 1937 Slender Maxima Vacumatic Set in Golden laminated. Wide cap bands, imprinted PARKER VACUMATIC. In 1937 the Slender Maxima was introduced, a narrower version of the Sr. Maxima, also with a wide cap band. The earliest models of the Sr. Maxima and Slender Maxima have PARKER VACUMATIC imprinted on their cap band. Very rare! GFT. Matching gripping section and jewels. Two-toned medium nib. New-old-stock. Mint. Twist activated pencil. Parker 1940 Slender Maxima Deluxe Vacumatic Set in Golden Laminated. GFT. Very rare, extra-wide, horizontally chased cap bands, sometimes called the stacked coin bands. Special design, made for sale in jewelry stores, so they had a special model and didn t compete with the pen shops (discontinued in 1941). Two-toned, medium/fine nib. New-old-stock. New-old-stock. Mint 32 Parker 1938 Junior Debutante Vacumatic in Burgundy Shadow-wave. Only in 1938 was this called the Junior Debutante in 1939 the name was changed to just Debutante. Made for the Spanish speaking market (ie., Spain, Brazil, Argentina), as the barrel is factory marked Marca Registrada. Medium/fine, extra-flexible nib (flexible Vac nibs are very rare!). 6 33 Parker 1938 Major Vacumatic in Golden Laminated, with STAR clip (instead of a blue diamond). 1n 1938, the "Split-Feather Clip" was introduced, with the name "Parker" running vertically through the feathers. Pens appeared with a "Star" near the top of the clip. This was in answer to Sheaffer's White Dot. The star was meant to be Parker's symbol for a pen with a lifetime guarantee. Parker was turned down for a trademark, so they switched to the "Blue Diamond." After this switch, the remaining stock of star clips were used on pens sold in military PXs. Two-toned, broad nib. Fine nib is also signed SUPERWEAR. Near mint. 95 Chilton 1923 #5 Pneumatic-fill in Red Mottled Hard Rubber. GFT. The entire barrel slides down, revealing a metal tube which houses the bladder. The user covers the hole in the bottom of the barrel with his finger and returns the barrel to place. This creates air pressure to evacuate the bladder. Releasing the hole allows the air pressure to equalize, drawing ink into the bladder. Medium/fine nib. Note the long cap the pen is 7" when the cap is posted!
