60 STIHL Incorporated Federal and California Emission Control Warranty Statement Your Warranty Rights and Obligations The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and STIHL Incorporated are pleased to explain the Emission Control System Warranty on your equipment s engine. In California, new small off-road engines must be designed, built and equipped to meet the State s stringent anti-smog standards. In other States, new 997 and later model year small off-road equipment engines must be designed, built and equipped, at the time of sale, to meet the U.S. EPA regulations for small non road engines. The equipment engine must be free from defects in materials and workmanship which cause it to fail to conform with U.S. EPA standards for the first two years of engine use from the date of sale to the ultimate purchaser. STIHL Incorporated must warrant the emission control system on your small off-road engine for the period of time listed in the paragraph titled Manufacturer s Warranty Coverage provided there has been no abuse, neglect or improper maintenance of your small off-road equipment engine. Your emission control system includes parts such as the carburetor and the ignition system. Also included may be hoses, and connectors and other emission-related assemblies. 62 Double Warranty Coverage Program For all STIHL gasoline powered machines (with the exception of STIHL TS cut-off machines, GS 46 concrete cutter and top handle chain saw models) sold after January, 20 that are used for personal non-income producing family or household purposes; the standard warranty coverage period will be doubled if the original consumer purchases a 6-pack of STIHL HP Ultra 2-cycle engine oil (any size containers) or six 32 ounce cans of STIHL MotoMix or a one gallon container of STIHL MotoMix pre-mixed fuel at the time the machine is purchased. The double warranty coverage also applies to the machine s respective attachments if the attachments are purchased as an integral part of the machine at the same time the machine is purchased (i.e. guide bar, saw chain, KM attachments). Double warranty coverage does not apply for any attachments purchased at a later date. The consumer s invoice must reflect the STIHL HP Ultra oil purchase or the STIHL MotoMix pre-mixed fuel purchase and machine purchase along with the machine s serial number. The product registration must have the oil or fuel purchase selected in the STIHL eservice product registration record or indicated on the product registration form. The consumer should retain a copy of the original sales invoice for the length of the warranty time period as proof of purchase. STIHL Incorporated reserves the right to request a copy of the invoice to verify warranty coverage in the event a warranty repair is made to the machine. Double warranty coverage does not apply for non-gasoline powered products, all STIHL TS cut-off machines, GS 46 concrete cutter, top handle chain saw models, or products used for profit or non-profit organizational, coercial, professional, rental or income producing purposes. The double warranty coverage applies to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable. Refer to the STIHL Incorporated Limited Warranty Policy for details and exclusions. Limited Lifetime Drive Shaft Warranty Coverage STIHL extends a limited lifetime warranty for all drive shafts used in STIHL triers, brushcutters, clearing saws, edgers, HT 56, HT 00, HT 30, and HT 250 tree pruners (HT 73, HT 75, HT 0, HT 3 tree pruners are excluded) KW model powered sweepers, extended length HL model hedge triers, KM and FS split shaft STIHL KombiSystem multi-tool machines and MM multi-tool machines. For any of these products sold to retail customers after July, 995 STIHL will replace any defective drive shaft for as long as the original retail purchaser owns the product. This warranty covers the cost of parts and labor to replace the drive shaft. This warranty is limited to all uses except rental use. Only the machine s drive shaft carries a limited lifetime warranty. Drive shaft housings, tubes, liners, supports, couplers, bearings, bushings and STIHL KombiSystem attachments for KM model machines are subject to the normal warranty time periods of the machine. Lifetime warranty coverage for the drive shaft is to the original owner only and is non-transferable. Limited Lifetime Clutch Warranty Coverage All STIHL trier, brushcutter, clearing saw, HT tree pruner, KW powered sweeper, edger, KM and MM multitool machines, hedge trier, BT 45, BT 20, and BT 2 boring gears models purchased after January, 2000 come with centrifugal clutch shoes that are warranted for the life of the product while owned by the original retail purchaser. For any of these products sold to retail customers after January, 2000 STIHL will replace any defective centrifugal clutch shoe for as long as the original purchaser owns the product. This warranty covers the cost of parts and labor to replace the clutch shoes. This warranty is limited to all uses except rental use. The lifetime warranty applies to the centrifugal clutch shoes only or the clutch assembly if the clutch shoes are an integral part of the assembly. Clutch drums, clutch springs, mounting hubs, bearings, fasteners and clutch housings are not covered under the lifetime clutch warranty policy. Lifetime warranty coverage for the centrifugal clutch is to the original owner only and is non-transferable.

63 Limited Lifetime Hand Tool Warranty Coverage All STIHL model PA axes, PH hedge shears, PL loppers, PP pruners and PS pruning saws are warranted for the life of the product while owned by the original purchaser (other than for purposes of resale) when used for all uses. STIHL Incorporated warrants these tools to be free from defect in material or workmanship for the lifetime of the tool or until the appropriate spare part or product is no longer available from the factory. If the hand tool should fail due to a defect in material or workmanship, STIHL Incorporated will replace or repair the tool or refund the original purchase price. This warranty does not cover damage due to rust, misuse, abuse, mishandling, unauthorized repair, or normal wear of anvils, blades, hooks, or other parts and dulling of cutting edges. The warranty applies only to the original retail purchaser of the tool. Spare Parts Limited Warranty Coverage. Parts installed on the machine during the warranty period of the product are covered against defects in materials and workmanship for the amount of time remaining for the machine s original warranty period or 3 months, whichever is longer. 2. Parts installed on the machine after the warranty period of the product has expired are covered against defects in material and workmanship for 3 months from the date the part was installed. Accessories Limited Warranty Coverage STIHL warrants all accessories to be free of defects in material and workmanship for 3 months from the date of purchase. Accessories are defined as replacement guide bars, replacement saw chain, replacement cutting attachments, abrasive wheels and diamond wheels for cut-off machines, service tools, forestry apparel, specialty advertising or collateral items, and all other miscellaneous STIHL accessories. STIHL will repair or replace any accessory item determined to be defective within 3 months of purchase. Original attachments that are assembled to the machine at the time of purchase have the same warranty coverage as the machine the attachment is installed onto. Accessories such as gearbox attachments for triers and multi-tool attachments have the same warranty coverage as the machine the attachment is installed onto. Authorization to Perform Warranty Service Any authorized STIHL dealer can perform warranty service whether or not it is the original selling dealer. STIHL customers are encouraged to return to the selling STIHL dealer for warranty service. In cases where this is not possible, any STIHL dealer is obligated to perform warranty service once the dealer is satisfied that the product is covered by the STIHL Incorporated limited warranty policy and the customer provides proof of purchase date. Product Registration In order to register the customer s purchase of a STIHL product with STIHL Incorporated, the dealer must complete a product registration at the time of sale. Product registrations can be completed on-line by the dealer at or be completed using a paper form (part no ). When using a paper product registration form the purchaser and dealer must sign the form and the dealer must mail the completed registration form to STIHL within ten days of purchase! STIHL provides registration forms for this purpose. Dealers can order a supply of product registration forms from their STIHL Distribution Center by ordering part no Registration forms are available in packages of 00. In order for STIHL to record the registration of the product, the STIHL eservice website fields or paper registration form must have the following information completed:. Purchaser s name, mailing address, and zip code 2. Purchaser s address (optional) 3. Purchase date

64 4. Product Model (such as MS2, TS420, FS56R, BG86, etc.) 5. Complete serial number (use all 9 digits) 6. Dealer account number 7. Dealer name and address 8. Dealer and customer signature. Note: signatures are not required when filing the registration via the STIHL eservice website. The handwriting on the registration form must be readable, PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY. Use only a black or blue ink pen to complete the form. Any form without this information or that is not readable cannot be processed and the registration of the purchase will not be recorded. STIHL encourages all dealers to complete the entire registration form, especially the safety related questions. This is a very important step for you as a dealer in the event of any product liability claim should it arise. Once the registration form is completed and signed, the STIHL Inc. copy should be mailed to STIHL in the postage paid envelopes that are available free of charge from your STIHL Distribution Center (order part no ). Please accumulate the completed forms and mail to STIHL once per week. The middle copy of the registration form is the dealer s copy and should be retained for your records. The back copy of the form is the customer s copy and proof of purchase. If filing a product registration via the STIHL eservice website, do not send STIHL a completed paper product registration form to record the sale. The machine will already be registered from the information you entered using the website. Provide the customer a copy of the STIHL Limited Warranty Policy. The STIHL Limited Warranty Policy is available for download free of charge at or can be obtained from your STIHL Distribution Center. STIHL Dealer Account Number STIHL assigns each dealer an account number that must be used when completing warranty claims and product registrations. If you are unsure of your STIHL account number please contact your STIHL Distribution Center. Voiding a Product Registration Occasionally a customer will return a new machine they have just purchased for a refund or exchange for a different model. If this happens after you have filed a registration with STIHL, take your copy and write Void Sale across the front of the form and mail to STIHL Incorporated at the address listed in the paragraph below. 65 Parts & Service Not Covered by STIHL Warranty. Parts or components not manufactured or supplied by STIHL. 2. Parts or components that have been modified. 3. Repairs or replacements including parts or labor supplied by anyone other than authorized STIHL dealers located in the United States or U.S. territories. 4. Repairs made necessary by gasoline containing more than 0% (E0) ethanol content (i.e. E5, E25, E30, E50, E85). 5. Any failure that results from accident, impact, abuse, misuse, neglect, mishandling, dulling of cutting edges or failure to operate the product in accordance with the instructions provided in the instruction manual supplied with the product. 6. Improper voltage for electric products and batteries that have been exposed to temperatures beyond those specified in the product s instruction manual, batteries that have not been properly charged or batteries that have reached their useful life. 7. Items or service required due to normal use and wear or performing regular maintenance of the product, e.g. valve adjustments, spark plugs, fuel filters, air filters, lubricants, starter ropes, carburetor adjustments, engine tune-ups, machine adjustments, carburetor adjustments, carburetor rebuild kits, sharpening, cleaning of combustion deposits, replacement or cleaning of spark arrestor screens, etc. 8. Normal adjustments and recoended maintenance as described in the instruction manual supplied with the product. 9. Repairs made necessary by normal wear, improper maintenance, improper lubrication, improper storage, dirt, debris, abrasives, moisture, water, freezing of water, rain, snow, rust, corrosion, varnish, stale fuel, gasoline additives, fuel deposits, carbon or combustion deposits, oil deposits or other similar conditions. 0. Repairs made necessary due to improper oil mix ratios or the use of mix oils and other lubricants not specified in the product s instruction manual.. Excessive time spent in the diagnosis and repair of a product failure. 2. Any failure resulting from the use of improper tools (such as impact wrenches), incorrect assembly or improper repair procedures. 3. Replacement of complete machines or assemblies unless replacement of individual parts will not completely correct the failure. If the warranty reimbursement, parts and labor, to replace the individual parts exceed the cost to repair by using complete assemblies, it is then recoended to replace the assembly rather than repair using individual parts. All complete machine replacements must first be approved by your STIHL Distribution Center. 4. All installation labor costs for replacing the electronic ignition trigger module after the machine s emission control warranty time period as described in the STIHL Limited Warranty Statement. 5. Double warranty coverage with 6-pack of STIHL HP Ultra engine oil purchase and extended warranty coverage for electronic ignition modules, power tool drive shafts, and power tool clutches as described in the STIHL Limited Warranty Statement applies to the original purchaser only. The extended warranty coverage does not apply to machines that are traded in or resold by the original retail purchaser. The STIHL Limited Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship only and is not to be considered free service coverage for any and all service requirements that occur during the warranty period. STIHL expects dealers to make reasonable judgments when determining if a repair qualifies for warranty reimbursement. If you encounter a product failure and are unsure that it qualifies for warranty coverage, contact your STIHL Distribution Center s Service Department for information.

66 STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Program The STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Program allows a customer to return any STIHL serial numbered machine (except TS and TSA cut-off machines and GS 46 concrete cutter) to the selling STIHL dealer for a refund (including taxes) or an exchange within seven consecutive days of the original purchase date. The machine must be returned to the original selling dealer. Dealer participation in the STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Program is optional. Participating dealers can resell a returned machine to another customer as a demonstrator product at a reduced price, with the same warranty coverage as a new machine. Reimbursement programs vary by Distribution Center. Please check with your STIHL Distribution Center for details regarding the STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee return and reimbursement policy. STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Items Not Covered. Machines must be returned within seven consecutive days from the date the customer originally purchased the product. Machines returned after this time period do not qualify for reimbursement or exchange under the program. 2. All STIHL TS and TSA cut-off machine models and the GS 46 concrete cutter do not qualify for the STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Program. 3. The Satisfaction Guarantee applies to STIHL serial numbered machines only (except TS and TSA cut-off machines and GS 46 concrete cutter). It does not apply to any other STIHL product such as accessories, repair parts, cutting attachments, diamond wheels, abrasive wheels, gear box accessory attachments, attachments for multi-tool machines, expendable and/or supplementary items, etc. Gear box accessory attachments, attachments for multi-tool machines, and other attachments originally purchased with the machine qualify if they are returned along with the power unit. 4. The STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Program does not apply to machines that have been damaged due to improper adjustment, abuse, impact, accident, misuse, neglect or failure to operate and maintain the machine in accordance with the instructions supplied in the instruction manual. 5. Machines that have been stolen or damaged by fire, water, wind, other acts of nature or acts of terrorism or war do not qualify for exchange or reimbursement. 6. If the machine is returned due to a warranty failure, the machine is to be repaired per the normal guidelines of STIHL s Limited Warranty Policy and returned to the customer. Dealers and customers should refer to the STIHL Limited Warranty Statement for these guidelines. The customer is responsible for any repair costs for failures that do not qualify for warranty coverage. 7. Cutting attachments, deflectors, shrouds, handles, etc. should be expected to have normal wear, discoloration and debris build-up as with any used or demonstration machine. Normal wear and tear does not qualify for reimbursement under STIHL s Limited Warranty Policy.

67 Procedure for Satisfaction Guarantee Returns If a customer returns a machine to a participating dealer for reimbursement or exchange, and the machine qualifies under the terms of the STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Program, the dealer should use the following guidelines to file a Satisfaction Guarantee claim:. Complete a paper STIHL Warranty Claim Form (part no ). Complete the claim form using the correct serial number, model number, date sold, etc. Note: Do not use the STIHL eservice website for filing Satisfaction Guarantee claims. 2. In the part number section of the claim form, write the model number and description of the machine (MS 2-6, BG 86, KM 56 with FC edger attachment, FS 0 R loop handle, MS 44 wrap handle, etc.). Refer to your STIHL Dealer Price Book or contact your STIHL Distribution Center for the correct model number. 3. Write on the claim form Satisfaction Guarantee in the area designated for the explanation of failure. 4. Take the original or dealer copy of the product registration form that was completed at the time of sale and attach it to the warranty claim form. 5. Send the warranty claim form and product registration to your STIHL Distribution Center. Do not send to STIHL Incorporated. 6. After the claim form is received, your STIHL Distribution Center will process the claim per the Distribution Center s Satisfaction Guarantee reimbursement policy in effect at the time. Please check with your STIHL Distribution Center for details regarding their reimbursement policy for the STIHL Satisfaction Guarantee Program. 7. The product registration form for the original sale will be voided. The machine can then be sold to another customer as a demonstrator product. The product will have the same warranty coverage as a new machine, including any applicable extended warranty coverage starting from the date the product is re-sold. STIHL reserves the right to modify or cancel the Satisfaction Guarantee program at any time.

68 Suary of Extended Warranty Coverage Past to Present The following is a suary of some extended warranty coverage policies and effective dates to use for reference when repairing machines sold in prior years. Refer to the STIHL Incorporated Limited Warranty Policy that was in effect at the time of sale for detailed limitations, exclusions and restrictions to type of use. Note: any changes to STIHL Incorporated s limited warranty time period coverage are not retroactive to machines purchased prior to the change unless specifically described in STIHL Incorporated s Limited Warranty Statement. IMPORTANT ELECTRONIC IGNITION EXTENDED WARRANTY INFORMATION: Extended warranty coverage for electronic ignition systems applies to the electronic trigger module only, hereinafter referred to as ignition module. Breaker points, condensers, and ignition coils are not included in this warranty coverage unless the electronic trigger module is an integral component of the ignition coil. Electronic Ignition Modules-Chain Saws Sold July, 986 June 30, 995: Models 009, 0, 02, 020T, 02, 023, 024, 025, 026, 028, 029, 034, 036, 039, 044, 064, 066, & 084 sold between July, 986 and June 30, 995 have limited lifetime electronic ignition module warranty coverage for parts & labor to replace the electronic ignition module to the original purchaser for the life of the machine or until the appropriate spare part is no longer available from the factory. Electronic Ignition Modules-Power Tools Sold January, 989 June 30, 995: Models FS 36, FS 40, FS 44, FS 48, FS 52, FS 62, FS 66, FS 72, FS 74, FS 76, FS 8, FS 86, FS 88, FS 06, FS 60, FS 80, FS 220, FS 280, FS 360, FS 420, FC 44, FC 72, BG 75, BR 06, BR 320, BR 400, BT06 sold between January, 989 and June 30, 995 have limited lifetime ignition warranty coverage for parts & labor to replace the electronic ignition module to the original purchaser for the life of the machine or until the appropriate spare part is no longer available from the factory. Electronic Ignition Modules-All Products Sold July, 995 March 2, 2003: All models sold between July, 995 and March 2, 2003 had limited electronic ignition warranty coverage for parts & labor to replace the electronic ignition module during the normal warranty period of the machine. The normal warranty period has expired, however the electronic ignition module part only is covered to the original purchaser for the life of the machine or until the appropriate spare part is no longer available from the factory. Electronic Ignition Modules-All Products Sold March 3, 2003 December 3, 200: All models sold between March 3, 2003 and December 3, 200 have limited electronic ignition warranty coverage for parts & labor to replace the electronic ignition module for the first 2 years after purchase. For an additional 3 years, replacement cost of the electronic ignition module part only is covered under the limited warranty policy. Electronic Ignition Modules-All Products Sold on or After January, 20: All models sold on or after January, 20 have limited electronic ignition warranty coverage for parts & labor to replace the electronic ignition module for 2 years after the date of purchase or the warranty time period of the machine, whichever is greater. Electronic Ignition Modules-Replacement Parts: If the machine was originally covered by a limited lifetime electronic ignition warranty policy and the electronic ignition module was replaced, the replacement electronic ignition module used for the repair continues to be covered to the original retail purchaser for the life of the product or until the appropriate spare part is no longer available from the factory. For products not having limited lifetime electronic ignition warranty coverage, the replacement electronic ignition module used to repair the machine has limited warranty coverage for 3 months or the remaining warranty time period of the original electronic ignition module, whichever is greater.

69 Power Tool Drive Shafts-Products Sold October, 993 June 30, 995: All power tools with a flexible drive shaft except FS 06, 08 models sold between October, 993 and June 30, 995 are covered under a limited lifetime warranty for the flexible drive shaft (does not apply to products with solid drive shafts). This warranty covers the cost of parts & labor to the original purchaser for the life of the product or until the appropriate spare part is no longer available from the factory. The lifetime warranty only applies if the drive shaft has been maintained and lubricated as recoended in the product s instruction manual. Power Tool Drive Shafts-Products Sold On or After July, 995: All power tools with a flexible or solid drive shaft except any HT pole pruner models with extendable length shafts sold on or after July, 995 are covered under a limited lifetime warranty. This warranty covers the cost of parts & labor to the original purchaser for the life of the product or until the appropriate spare part is no longer available from the factory. Drive Shaft Warranty for HT Pole Pruner Models with Extendable Length Shafts: The drive shaft warranty for any HT pole pruner models with extendable length shafts have the same limited warranty time period coverage as the machine. Power Tool Clutch Systems-Products Sold On or After January, 2000: All STIHL FS trier, brushcutter, clearing saw, FC edger, HT tree pruner, KM and MM multi-tool machines, KW powered sweeper, HS, HL and FH hedge trier, BT 45, BT 20 and BT 2 boring gear models purchased on or after January, 2000 come with centrifugal clutch shoes which are warranted for the life of the product or until the appropriate spare part is no longer available from the factory while owned by the original purchaser. 2-Year Warranty Coverage for Professional Use Products Sold On or After October, 2009: Power Tool and Industrial Products sold prior to October, 2009 have one year of warranty coverage if used in professional or income producing use. Machines Sold With 6-Pack of STIHL HP Ultra Engine Oil On or After January, 20: For all STIHL gasoline powered machines (with the exception of STIHL TS cut-off machine models, GS 46 concrete cutter and top handle chain saw models) sold on or after January, 20 that are used for personal non-income producing family or household purposes; the standard warranty coverage period will be doubled if the original consumer purchases a 6-pack of STIHL HP Ultra 2-cycle engine oil at the time the machine is purchased. STIHL MDG The STIHL MDG engine analyzer and STIHL diagnostic software have been designed for analyzing specific parts, troubleshooting and performing adjustments. A computer is required to use the STIHL MDG engine analyzer and the diagnostic software supplied with it, see 2.System Requirements. 590TI000 KN The STIHL MDG engine analyzer is used to test ignition modules and control units (STIHL M-Tronic TM ) and connected electrical components quickly and reliably. The STIHL MDG enables the right action to be taken at the right time. All other diagnostic and repair procedures, e.g. testing engine for leaks or looking for faults in fuel system, remain unchanged. It is possible to generate a report after every test. The report lists the individual steps and results of the test run. The report may be printed out and saved. In addition, dealer and customer data, serial number, company logo and the name of the service technician can be included in the report. The STIHL MDG can be used to test STIHL power tools manufactured from 2000 up to the present day.

124 Page 2 Technical Information Technical Description TI00 KN Bluetooth wireless technology is used to transmit information between the STIHL engine analyzer () and the computer (2). A free USB port for the bluetooth USB stick (3) or an internal bluetooth function is required for this purpose. The power supply unit (4) provides the STIHL MDG with power. The STIHL MDG is connected between the spark plug boot (5) and spark plug (6) to test STIHL power tools. Power tools with STIHL M-Tronic TM are connected to the diagnostic socket (8) with the "STIHL M-Tronic TM " test cable (7). 2. System Requirements STIHL diagnostic software may only be installed on a computer that meets the system requirements. It is essential to observe the sequence of the steps described. Only then will the STIHL diagnostic software be properly installed in the computer. Do not connect the analyzer (MDG, ADG ) to the computer until installation of the STIHL diagnostic software is completed Installation Place CD-ROM in computer's CD-ROM or DVD drive Automatic Start The automatic start works only if the computer supports automatic starting of a program from a CD- ROM (AUTORUN). Then follow the installation steps of the diagnostic software. If the setup program is not started automatically, start it manually Manual Start Open My Computer and select CD-ROM or DVD- ROM drive. Start installation by double click on "Setup.exe". Then follow the installation steps of the diagnostic software. 2.3 Updating STIHL Diagnostic Software The introduction of new power tools and additional diagnostic functions necessitate a software update. The update can be performed as described below Direct Update via Internet Computer with diagnostic software has internet access: In the menu bar, click on the question mark "?" select "Check for updates... ". The diagnostic software checks whether an update is available. If yes, the update is performed automatically Indirect Update (without Internet) Computer with diagnostic software has no internet access: The data for updating the diagnostic software is supplied by the sales company. 2.4 STIHL MDG Instruction Manual In the menu bar, click on the question mark "?" select "Instruction manual". The instruction manual is opened. 3. Selecting Power Tool The power tool must be selected before starting the individual diagnostic functions and steps. Power tools with STIHL M-Tronic TM engine management are listed separately and must be selected, e.g. MS 44 C-M. Select "Other STIHL Products" for basic diagnosis of STIHL power tools manufactured from 2000 up to the present day.

Solenoid valve is tested electrically Operating data are read out control unit and analyzer exchange information, e.g. part number of control unit. Positions of Master Control lever / slide control are tested positions Stop 0, Start } and Run F must be selected for this purpose. The following points are tested during the test run: Ignition voltage Ignition spark Spark advance (non suppressed spark plug) Short circuit Ignition timing Mixture control Idle control Maximum engine speed 4.2 Tachometer Tachometer with slave pointer and short-term memory for momentary maximum engine speed. Slave pointer and short-term memory simplify carburetor adjustment. 4.3 Operating Data Control unit and analyzer exchange information. The part numbers of the control unit and the software version are displayed. 4.4 Calibration If the control unit or carburetor are replaced in the service shop, the STIHL M-Tronic TM has to be re-calibrated. The control unit is adjusted to match the carburetor during the run in the Start position }. An iediate shutdown is necessary to store the information.

Preparing Power Tool and Engine Analyzer Country-specific safety regulations and the safety precautions in the instruction manuals must be observed when operating the power tool and engine analyzer. The engine analyzer may be operated only if it is in good working order. Use the engine analyzer only for testing STIHL power tools made from 2000 to present day. They must be combined with guide bars of the appropriate length. Chains without cutters can also be combined with guide bars with larger grove widths, e.g..3 drive link gauge may be used in guide bars with a groove width of.5 or.6. Chains without cutters should be used for diagnostic work and adjustments as well as demonstrations. STIHL diagnostic software enables the ADG battery analyzer to be connected to the computer. The connection to the computer is made with an USB cable. The USB cable is not included with the unit. Use a standard coercial USB cable with Type A and B USB plugs. The familiar diagnosis procedures can be performed with computer assistance and subsequent diagnostic report. Do not connect the ADG to the computer until installation of the STIHL diagnostic software is completed. On chainsaws and pole pruners: For any tests involving starting the machine, never use regular chain equipped with cutters. Replace saw chain with a cutterless chain (special accessory). WARNING To reduce the risk of injury from contact with the rotating fanwheel and engine damage due to overheating, mount the special testing cover and cutterless chain (special accessory) on chainsaws with one-piece shroud. WARNING To reduce the risk of injury, no other person may stand in the area of the power tool's engine during the test. 133 English WARNING To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not operate the engine analyzer device if it is damaged or not properly assembled. WARNING To reduce the risk of electric shock or short circuit, never use an analyzer device with a damaged housing, high voltage cables (incl. spark plug boot) or power supply cord. Operate the engine analyzer device only with the power supply unit provided (extra-low voltage) and connect it only to the mains voltage and frequency specified on the power supply unit's rating plate. Connect the power supply unit only to an easily accessible wall outlet. Never open the engine analyzer device, there are no serviceable parts. Only use original STIHL engine analyzer devices. Protect from dampness. Use and store only indoors in dry rooms. Operate at ambient temperatures between + 5 C and + 40 C. 4 Never bridge the contacts of the STIHL MDG engine analyzer device with metallic objects (e.g. nails, coins, jewelry) short circuit. That could damage the engine analyzer device. WARNING Do not operate in a hazardous location, i.e. in a location where there are combustible liquids (fumes), vapors or dusts. 135 English Connecting Analyzer Device to Power Supply Connecting to a wall outlet Mains voltage and the operating voltage of the power supply unit must be the same. 2 N Select mains plug adapter that suits wall outlet. N Slide the adapter into the power supply unit's slot () the adapter must snap into position. To remove the adapter: N Depress the latch (2) and pull out the adapter. N Connect cord () to engine analyzer devices's socket and the power supply unit's receptacle (2) note coding of connections. 136 Connecting Analyzer Device to Computer Bluetooth connection Bluetooth wireless technology is used to transmit information between the engine analyzer and the computer. A free USB port on the computer is required for the Bluetooth USB stick supplied with the analyzer. Connecting Engine Analyzer to Computer Connect the engine analyzer to the computer only after installing the STIHL diagnostic software and the Bluetooth USB stick. N Start STIHL diagnostic software. The STIHL diagnostic software cannot recognize the engine analyzer if the connection is not correct. If the engine analyzer is not recognized: N Check that light emitting diode () glows green and light emitting diode (2) glows continuously blue. Light emitting diode () glows continuously red: Internal fault replace analyzer. 137 English If no connection between engine analyzer and computer has been established up to this point, continue with "Plugging in and connecting USB stick manually". Manual connection is necessary only if automatc connection fails. Plugging in and connecting bluetooth USB stick manually N Plug Bluetooth USB stick into a free USB port. N Open Control Panel and select Bluetooth devices. N In the list, click on add device this starts the assistant for adding bluetooth devices. N Check the box "Device is installed and can be detected" click "Next". N Search for Bluetooth devices begins select STIHL MDG and click "Next". N Select "Use main code from documentation" enter main code STIHL (in capital letters) and click "Next" connection is made. N Press "Finish" to exit assistant. N Exit Bluetooth devices with "OK". Interference Program flow may be interrupted by electromagnetic interference. In such a case, close the application and remove the Bluetooth USB stick. Re-connect the Bluetooth USB stick and re-start the application. 8 Updating Diagnostic Software The introduction of new power tools and additions to diagnostic functions necessitate a software update. The update can be performed as described below. Direct update via internet Computer with diagnostic software has access to internet: In the menu, click on button "Check for updates... ". The diagnostic software checks whether an update is available. If yes, the update is performed automatically. Indirect update (without internet access) Computer with diagnostic software does not have access to internet: Data for updating the diagnostic software is supplied by the subsidiary. Using the Unit STIHL Diagnostic Software and STIHL analyzer devices are designed for analyzing specific components, troubleshooting and making adjustments. Engine Analyzer Device MDG The safety precautions and instructions in the instruction manuals must be observed when the power tool and engine analyzer device are started. To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not operate the engine analyzer device if it is damaged or not properly assembled. Use the engine analyzer device only for testing STIHL power tools made in 2000 and later. Visual inspection check power tool for external damage. Look for leaks if there is fuel leakage, do not start the engine. Before starting the test, always take precautions to eliminate the risk of accidents and injury from contact with the power tool's attachment. Position power tool accordingly and mount protective special accessories (e.g. cutterless chain) as directed above. Use only spark plugs of the type recoended by STIHL. Connect the engine analyzer device between the spark plug and spark plug boot. MDG 35

138 . 2. Make sure the contacts are firmly seated grounding clips must engage spark plug's hexagon. Pull off the boot turn slightly counterclockwise and remove. On chainsaws with one-piece shroud, mount the special testing cover and cutterless chain (special accessory) to reduce the risk of injury from contact with the rotating fanwheel and engine damage due to overheating. Clip the cover to the front handle cover must be located against outside of fan housing. MDG On chainsaws on which the clutch drum or spur sprocket is exposed after connecting the engine analyzer device, mount the special sprocket cover and cutterless chain (special accessory) to reduce the risk of injury. On chainsaws on which the air filter cannot be held in place by the carburetor box cover after connecting the engine analyzer device: Secure air filter with nut ( ) to reduce the risk of engine damage. Allways wear personal protective equipment required for the power tool at issue. If the STIHL Diagnostic Software instructs you to do so, fuel, prepare and start the power tool as described in the instruction manual. Never run the engine indoors or in poorly ventilated locations risk of serious or fatal injury from breathing toxic fumes. Carry out adjustments with extreme care because of the increased risk of accidents and injury improper handling can result in burns and other serious injuries.
