'0 labor costs associated with SCA testing or additions Comparison Evaluation Sing e Engine Cost Comparison Evaluation en rotection Based on Testinq and Customer Results Along with extended mileage claims, the Delo ELC formulation shows lower electrical conductivity values compared to other competitive ELC products that can lead to improved corrosion protection of various cooling system metals. Specifically, external testing has shown improvements in solder and cast alluuinum protection based on ASTM D 3306 test results. In addition, the ASTM D 2809 water pump test showed the results for Delo ELC as having a top rating of 10. In addition to excellent metals protection and improved hardware life, internal Chevron laboratory testing has demonstrated the patented carboxylate inhibitors in Delo ELC are able ro protect glycol from breaking down. Glycol is the component in an antifreeze/coolant responsible for freeze protection. The reason this is important is that when glycol breaks down acids are produced that lower coolant ph and increases the potential for corrosion to occur. When we compare Delo ELC to various other extended life coolants in the market we found that Delo ELC produced lower levels of glycol oxidation acids. This means that the inhibitors in Delo ELC protect glycol from breaking down which helps maintain proper ph levels and prevents corrosion from occurring. Chart 2 below demonstrates that Delo ELC does a much better job of protecting against the formation of oxidation acids compared to other competitive extended life products tested. The results below illustrate that Delo ELC protects as well as the reference coolant chosen by John Deere and does better then a competitive OAT ELC product sold by a major OEM. 10 to 12% Improved Heat Transfer 1 It is important to note that the reference coolant chosen for the John Deere Cavitation Test will require over its lifetime an estimated 40 additions of SCAs (supplemental coolant additives) to continue providing liner cavitation protection. The Delo' Performance Advanjage~ /1 r ctfami Carboxylate TechnoloCJY Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze Concentrate is a glycol based product containing patented carboxylate inhibitors in addition to nitrite and molybdate. This product is recommended for freeze point adjustment, top up, and initial fill. If used for initial fill or top up, the product should be diluted with good quality tap water or deionized water. If used for freeze point adjustment no dilution is needed. The optimum dilution range for Delo ELC is between 40 percent and 60 percent. A 50/50 mixture of Delo ELC concentrate with water is the optimal dilution and has a freeze point of -35 F. No SCAs (supplemental coolant additives) should be added when using this product. Delo Extended Life Prediluted 50/50 Coolant/Antifreeze is a 50/50 dilutio'n of DeJo ELC concentrate with deionized water. It is a ready to use glycol based coolant/antifreeze containing patented carboxylate inhibitors. This product is recommended for top up and can be used for initial fill. The freeze point of this product as manufactured is approximately -35 F. No SCAs (supplemental coolant additives) should be added when using this product. Delo Extender is the recommended recharge when using Delo ELC and an extended mileage interval of 1,000,000 miles/20,000 hours/8 years is desired. Delo ELC should be added at 500,000 miles/10,000 hours/4 years. In most cases 10 to 15 percent of the old coolant is left behind. It is important ro remember that Delo ELC is dilution tolerant with non-delo ELC product by up to 25 percent. When using this method tbe system will already be diluted by 10 percent to 15percent so maintaining correct top up practices by using only Delo ELC 50/50 is vital. One of the advantages of this method is that leaks are much less likely to occur since old deposits that have built up over time are not removed. All hoses and clamps should still be checked and the radiator cap and thermo tat should be checked for correct operation. When converting to ELC with this method, addition of a blank filter for the first six months of use may be advisable if the cooling system prior to conversion contained a high level of deposits. The blank filter (no chemical additives) will help remove old deposits. After conversion, Delo ELC Prediluted 50/50 should be used for top up to avoid dilution of tbe ELC inhibitors. Delo ELC is dilution tolerant up to 25 percent. Freeze point should be checked at least two times per year using a refractometer. Regular inhibitor testing or additions of supplemental coolant additives are not required when u ing Delo ELC. The general guidelines for maintaining Delo ELC are as follows: 1. Visually inspect coolant every service interval to insure product is clear red, free of any debris or signs of oil. Coolant level should be at the full mark at all times. 2. Check freeze point at least two times per year. Freeze point should be between -12 F and -62 F. Using a re&actometer is the most accurate way to test freeze point and is highly recommended. A 50/50 coolant!antifreeze has a freeze point of -35 F. 3. Top up using Delo ELC Prediluted 50/50. Do not dilute Delo ELC by more then 25 percent. Dilution beyond 25 percent will reduce product performance. 4. If a mileage service interval of longer than 750,000 miles/15,000 hours/8 years is desired then Delo Extender should be added at 500,000 mile/l0,000 hours/4 years to obtain a total service mileage of 1,000,000 miles 20,000 hours/8 years. Compatibility of Delo ELC with Other Coolants Note that Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze is compatible with other coolants but should not be diluted by more then 25 percent with non-delo ELC formulas. Coolants that are 100 percent compatible with Delo ELC and that can be used in any quantities for top up without creating dilution issues are as follows: Texaco Extended Life Coolant/Anti-Freeze Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant!Antifreeze If neither of these products is available while on the road and there is no concern with freezing then topping up with water and adjusting freeze point with Delo ELC concentrate when the vehicle is returned to the shop is advisable. Using this process will prevent any inhibitor dilution issues.

To do this, take the coolant sample and dilute it with water. Take a new refractometer reading and match this value to the reading under the "Freeze Protection of Sample Mixed with Water" column. Determine your cooling system volume and based on the chart below, drain the recommended amount of coolant and replace that volume with good quality water.
