2 COMPANY PROFILE Power electronics company Modulectric, was established in 1994, in the City of Benoni, east of Johannesburg, South Africa. Initially, the company s primary function was in the manufacturing of power electronics equipment, for use in the local Mining Industry. Utilizing the same technology, the company soon ventured into designing and manufacturing of electronically based welding inverters. This led to the birth of the Modweld range of welding machines. The success of the product was driven by its unequalled design features, and it s ability to withstand the problems associated with fluctuating electrical input supply current, experienced in Africa. The inception of the Modweld inverter saw the introduction of the unique concept. For the first time a welding machine was manufactured with a built-in low voltage safety device, designed to protect the operator in moist conditions. This fail-safe, tamper-proof system is standard to all Modweld inverters. Over the past thirteen years the company has established itself as a major force in the South African Welding Industry, with a range of more than 30 different models, that include inverters, large rectifiers, plasma cutters and wire feeders. More than units have been supplied into Southern and Sub-Saharan Africa, and the company currently employs over 40 personnel, operating out of a manufacturing facility of over 700 square meters.
