HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION Warning, Caution and Note: WARNING is used in this document to identify tasks that if carried out incorrectly may cause serious injury to persons. CAUTION is used in this document to identify tasks that if carried out incorrectly may cause damage to equipment. NOTE is used in this document to inform the user of other non-health & Safety related issues..2 USER INFORMATION The Static Filtration Unit warranty will be invalidated if unapproved spare parts, cartridges, or mixed bed resins are used. Using such items may cause the efficiency and service life of the unit to be reduced. Failure to maintain the Static Filtration Unit correctly or modifying it without prior approval from A.T. Juniper (Liverpool) Ltd. may also create a hazardous condition. Every effort has been made both in the design of the Static Filtration Unit and in the preparation of these instructions to protect the end user from possible dangers. The majority of accidents can be avoided if basic safety precautions and procedures are adhered to..3 GENERAL HEALTH AND SAFETY WARNING: Any persons operating or carrying out any type of maintenance work on this Static Filtration Unit must use safe engineering working practices and abide by local and appropriate Health and Safety Regulations. In order to comply with your responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act, The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, and the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations it is essential that Static Filtration Unit is, operated, inspected, and maintained, by competent persons, in accordance with the Regulations and this document. It is the responsibility of the local supervisor to ensure that people operating or maintaining the unit have: Read and fully understood the contents contained in this document. Check that there are no signs of damage to the unit, associated pipe work and fittings prior to commencing work..4 TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING CAUTION: Always ensure the Unit remains in the upright position. Always check the hoses / cables are secured in their appropriate stowage. Always check the unit for damage after transportation..5 CHECKING AND COMMISSIONING CAUTION: Carry out the following visual inspection detailed below prior to putting the unit into use for the first time. Visually examine the components and structure of the unit for any damage that may affect safety and / or functionality. Examine all nuts, bolts and screws for presence and security. Examine pipe joints, unions and hose connections for security. Examine all hoses for security of fixings and freedom from damage. Examine pressure gauge for security, correct operation, and freedom from damage. Ensure all safety-warning signs are present and legible. 10 Section 2.0 General Information Static Filtration Unit - JMP/FILT/D/ FEATURES Water filtration system with particulate filtering and water softening. On board water quality conductivity meter. Ambient operating temperature: +3ºc to +80ºc. For use in water re-cycling or safe water disposal. Power requirements are 240 volts single phase 50 Hz. Maximum system pressure is 5 Bar. Maximum system flow rate is 36 litres per minute. 12 Section 2.0 General Information Static Filtration Unit - JMP/FILT/D/ PARTICLE FILTERS Particle filters from left to right are: 5 micron filter SM92 Granular Active Carbon SM93 micron filter SM94 Flow 2.5 IONIC FILTERS Ionic Filters are charged with a Mixed Bed Resin. 16 Section 3.0 Operation and user guide Static Filtration Unit - JMP/FILT/D/ INTRODUCTION This guide includes the following steps: Operation of the filter system Reading the meter display Reading the pressure gauges Replacing the particle filters Replacing the Ionic filters 3.2 OPERATION OF THE FILTER SYSTEM Attach the source of the dirty water to the input male coupling. Turn the ball valve handle into the on position. Attach the filtered water pipe to the output female coupling. Turn the ball valve handle into the on position. Switch the power source on. 17 Static Filtration Unit - JMP/FILT/D/689 Section 3.0 Operation and user guide 3.3 READING THE METER DISPLAY The meter display displays the quality of the water leaving the filtration system. The water should be filtered until the desired quality is reached. A typical water quality would be 000 micro Siemens. If the water is to be retuned to the sewage network the water must be filtered until it meets the local water authority standards. 3.4 READING THE PRESSURE GAUGES The particulate filters are fitted with two pressure gauges. The input pressure gauge shows the pressure build up created from the restriction of flow by the 5 micron filter. The output pressure gauge shows the pressure drop created by the filter system. 20 Section 4.0 Maintenance Static Filtration Unit - JMP/FILT/D/ REPLACING THE PARTICLE FILTERS The three particulate filters all have the same filter housing. The procedure for replacing each of the filters is the same. To access the filter unscrew the filter housing from the filter head in an anti clockwise direction. To secure the filter housing reverse the removal procedure. NOTE: All filters should be replaced at the same service interval. Granular Active Carbon filter (replacement 20 cartridge) SM93/ Filter head Flow Filter housing 5 micron filter (replacement 20 cartridge) SM92/ micron filter (replacement 20 cartridge) SM94/ 4.2 REPLACING THE IONIC FILTERS The filters are removed by releasing the snap couplings on the inlet and outlet ports. The filters are directional and are fitted with a one way valve. The direction of flow is marked on the filter head. 21 Static Filtration Unit - JMP/FILT/D/689 Section 4.0 Maintenance 4.3 CHANGING THE FILTER CARTRIDGES Filter manufacturer s guide for the replacement of filter cartridges (5 micron, GAC and micron) Turn off water supply to filter. If unit is Valve-in head style, rotate handle on top of housing to OFF position. Depress pressure release button (if present) to relieve pressure in filter housing. Unscrew housing using spanner wrench. NOTE: When opening filter housing to change cartridge, it is common for O-ring / Gasket to lift out of housing and stick to cap. Remove used cartridge and discard. Rinse out housing and fill about 3 full with water. Add about 2 to 3 tablespoons of bleach and scrub thoroughly with brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly. Remove O-ring / Gasket from sump and wipe groove and O-ring/Gasket clean. Lubricate O-ring / Gasket with a coating of clean silicone grease. Place O-ring / Gasket back in place and press O-ring down into the groove with two fingers (or place gasket on rim of sump). NOTE: This step is important to ensure proper filter seal. Make sure the O-ring is seated level in the groove (or gasket is on rim of sump). CAUTION: If O-ring / Gasket appears damaged or crimped it should be replaced at this time. see your local dealer for replacement parts. Insert a new cartridge into the sump making sure that it slips down over the sump standpipe. Screw the sump onto the cap and hand tighten. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Make sure cartridge slips over the cap standpipe. Turn on the water supply slowly to allow housing to fill with water. When using a Valve-In-Head, rotate handle slowly to the ON (filter) position. Depress the pressure release button (if present) to release trapped air from filter. Check for leaks before leaving installation. WARNING: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the unit. NOTE: An activated carbon cartridge (Taste / Odour) may contain a small amount of carbon fines (very fine black powder) and a new cartridge, after installation, should be flushed with sufficient water to remove the fines before using the water. Each time you use water from your filtered water tap for drinking or cooking purposes, it is recommended that you run (flush) the tap at least 0 seconds prior to using water. This is particularly important if the water tap is not used daily. NOTE: Certain types of harmless bacteria will attack cellulose material. Cartridges containing cellulose may seem to disintegrate, produce a 'musty' or 'mouldy' odour, or form a black precipitate due to the bacteria. If you notice any of the above problems while using the cellulose media cartridges, switch to a synthetic media cartridge or consult the manufacturer. NOTE: This replacement cartridge has a limited service life. Changes in taste, colour and flow of the water being filtered are signals that replacement of the cartridge is, or may soon be, necessary. 22 Section 4.0 Maintenance Static Filtration Unit - JMP/FILT/D/689 CAUTION: The filter must be protected against freezing. Failure to do so may result in cracking of the filter and water leakage. CAUTION: All filtration systems contain other parts that have a limited service life. Exhaustion of the service life of those parts cannot easily be detected. Commonly, it is only after leakage has been observed, or water damage has occurred, that one is made aware that the service life has been exhausted. IMPORTANT NOTICE: To prevent costly repairs or possible water damage we strongly recommend that the bowl or sump of all plastic housings be replaced periodically: every five years for clear sumps, and every ten years for opaque sumps. If your sump has been in use for more than the recommended period it should be replaced immediately. Be sure to update any new or replacement sump for future reference and indicate the next recommended replacement date. 22 A.T.Juniper (Liverpool) Ltd. November 200 Issue
