Among these are an ignition lock, first introduced on the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII, and an encrypted transponder key blank. Currently, neither the key nor the lock are used on any other North American Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicle. Opening 2. Opening the LS is a simple task using either an Under-The-Window tool or by prying the door back and using a long tool to activate the lock button. To unlock the LS using the Under-The- Window tool, first make room for the opening tool by wedging the window. STRATTEC is currently the only manufacturer of this lock, using part number The key, STRATTEC (Lockmasters LKMH74PT), is also unique to this car; using an encrypted Texas Instrument transponder chip and the Ford 8-Cut keyway. 5. Although this particular key looks very similar to the more common STRATTEC (Lockmasters LKMH72PT) Ford transponder key, they cannot be interchanged. To help distinguish these keys apart, the LS key blank provided as both the original key and the STRATTEC key will have a two-digit marking - a letter followed by a number - on the blade of the key, and the transponder cap or cover will be gray in color. 2 Automotive Edge National Locksmith Automobile Association
