3 Fluid Packaging Systems Nordson EFDʼs new Optimum cartridges and syringes have been designed as a complete, integrated system that brings fluid packaging and dispensing processes to a higher level of reliability to meet the demands of todayʼs cutting edge manufacturing processes. Manufacturers around the world are demanding greater performance than ever before from the fluids used in their process as well as the components in which they are packaged. To help you, the fluid packager, meet these challenges we used Computational Fluid Dynamics software to develop unique new syringe barrel and cartridge designs that fill quickly and smoothly without turbulence or trapped air. Then we molded them from new polymers that provide superior strength, clarity and chemical compatibility with a wide range of fluids. For you, this means faster, more consistent fills in packaging that emphasizes the quality of your product. For your customers, this means more accurate, reliable dispensing results with virtually no fluid waste. Optimum components are always available in conveniently packaged quantities. 4 Optimum Syringe Barrels No air entrapment Smooth laminar flow Less fluid shear Optimum syringe barrels are molded from a proprietary polymer with exceptional strength, clarity and chemical compatibility. The internal profile ensures smooth, unimpeded laminar flow, without turbulence or dead zones that could trap air. A tapered internal luer at the outlet minimizes fluid shear during filling and dispensing. Optimum syringe barrels are available in clear, UV-blocking amber and light-blocking black configurations in 3, 5, 10, 30 and 55cc capacities. Syringe Pistons Matching pistons have precision molded channels that prevent air entrapment, along with a smooth radius that reduces fluid shear. Optimum pistons are available in four styles to meet virtually any fluid packaging requirement. White: Beige: Red: Orange: Blue: General-purpose for most fluids Loose fitting for use with air-entrapped fluids Tight fit for use with mechanical dispensing systems Flat wall for use with stringy air-entrapped fluids LV Barrier pistons are for cyanoacrylates and very low viscosity fluids. Syringe Caps Tip caps have a large knurled gripping surface for easy installation and removal, and are vented to keep air from entering the fluid. End caps feature a convenient pushbutton that produces a snug, air-tight seal. 4

5 Optimum Cartridges No splitting Consistent piston-cartridge fit Available in clear, amber & black Optimum cartridges are molded from a strong, clear FDA- and RoHScompliant polymer, with ZeroDraft walls that maintain consistent internal diameters for smooth piston travel. Strong molded ribs around the cartridge outlet Zero Draft prevent splitting when installing fittings or nozzles. Precision threads and a tapered counterbore at the ¼" NPT outlet ensure a secure, leakproof seal during packaging and shipment. A sturdy hex molded around the outlet fits into a matching orifice on the cartridge retainer for fast, tool-free installation of fittings and nozzles. Optimum cartridges are available in clear, UV-blocking amber, and light-blocking black configurations. Capacities include 2.5 oz (74ml), 6 oz (177ml), 12 oz (355ml) and 20 oz (591ml). Optimum cartridges are compatible with most standard cartridge retainers. Cartridge Pistons Optimum cartridge pistons are precision molded from high-density polyethylene. Their consistent fit perfectly matches cartridge walls to prevent blow-by and leakage during filling and shipment. Unique recessed channels on the bottom of the piston help dissipate air during the filling process, reducing or eliminating the need to centrifuge. Cartridge Caps Threaded, self-venting outlet caps keep air from being introduced into the fluid and have a hex recess for automated installation. End caps have a pushbutton that ensures an air-tight seal to keep material fresh and prevent leaks during shipment. 5

7 Syringe Filling Systems Bulk Unloaders Compact, Cost-effective Syringe Filling Systems 8000BF Series Filling Stations provide extremely fast, consistent, and cost-effective volumetric filling of pastes, gels and other non-pourable fluids. Filling syringes from the bottom allows air to escape, for a consistent volumetric fill. Three configurations are available to handle a wide range of fluids. Each configuration will accommodate 3cc, 5cc, 10cc, 30cc and 55cc syringe barrels. 8000BF-PW Use with reactive fluids that require a disposable fluid path, at pressures up to 80 psi. 8000BF-HF Use with cartridges and tanks, at pressures up to 100 psi. 8000BF-HPA Use with very thick fluids, at pressures up to 2,500 psi.
