2 Installation & Safety Paying attention to the details of the written instructions and the details of the engine removal is critical to installing a new one quickly. Certain assumptions are included in these written instructions. One of those assumptions is that since you ordered this piece of equipment, you must be qualified to install and operate it, or have made arrangements with qualified persons to do that for you. Should you need assistance, we will attempt to help you over the phone, but there is only so much we can do that way. We urge you to get assistance as needed from a qualified small engine mechanic. You can normally find one locally in your yellow pages under LAWNMOWERS or under ENGINES-GASOLINE. The installation of an engine into a lawnmower will require some mechanical ability, but does not necessarily require a mechanic. We sell over 1,500 kits each year for the many various tractors, and the majority of our buyers do the installation without further help from us. However for those times when assistance is needed, we will try to help out if we can. CAUTION! For your own safety, please be careful when working around gasoline engines. There are many hazards to watch out for: Gasoline is both flammable and explosive. Carbon monoxide in an enclosed garage is just as lethal with a lawnmower as it would be with a car. Many steel engine parts are sharp enough to cause deep cuts. Rotating engines can cause injury by catching both hands and clothing. Mufflers and surrounding areas take only seconds to get hot enough for severe burns. Voltage generated from the battery or the engine coil can cause electrical shock. THANKS FOR YOUR PURCHASE! 3 1. Remove Your Old Engine STOP! Please label the wiring between your tractor and old engine before removing anything. Most installation problems occur because of modified or unidentified tractor wiring. We CANNOT assist you in identifying your old wiring. a. Disconnect battery cables. b. Disconnect starter cable from engine. c. Disconnect main wiring harness at white six pin connector. d. Remove clutch and pulley from bottom of engine. e. Unhook throttle and choke cables. f. Remove engine mounting bolts (notice that there are ground wires attached to one of the engine mounting bolts.) g. Pull out old engine. Copyright 2010 Small Engine Warehouse, Inc. d. Re-attach pulley and clutch. Use new clutch bolt supplied with kit. e. Fill engine with recommended oil. f. Fill or top off coolant level (50/50 mix antifreeze/coolant) as needed.

4 2. Install New Engine in Tractor a. One terminal on starter cable that goes from tractor solenoid to new starter will need to be drilled out to 5/16 or 8mm to fit stud on new starter. b. Attach modified cable to new engines starter, then set new engine into position. c. Secure engine with self tapping bolts supplied with kit, reconnecting battery ground cable to engine mounting bolt. d. Re-attach pulley and clutch. Use new clutch bolt supplied with kit. e. Fill engine with recommended oil. f. Fill or top off coolant level (50/50 mix antifreeze/coolant) as needed. Oil drain valve may be rotated for the most suitable draining position. Plastic tube and clamp should slide on fully and be routed to the most useful location (easiest done before installing engine). 3. Make Final Connections of Wiring and Cables a. Reconnect the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. b. Plug engine wiring harness into matching mower connector. c. Re-connect clutch wiring to tractor harness.

Re-connect clutch wiring to tractor harness. d. Hook up fuel line to the new engine s fuel filter, located at the base of the air cleaner on the oil filter side of the engine. e. Hook up the throttle and choke cables. f. Reinstall battery and connect cables. g. Make sure gasoline is fresh and the fuel valve is open. h. Test run and re-check fluid levels. 6 Engine Wiring Information This kit was designed so that using the connector illustrated below, the engine should plug into your existing tractor plugs. If your plug does not match, then your tractor has been modified from its original configuration. As previously mentioned, we have no way to determine the function of your tractor wiring over the phone. The instructions below will help you to splice the tractor and engine wiring if necessary using the wiring that you identified before removing the old engine.
