2 SAFETY AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SIDEKICK AIO READ MANUAL THOROUGHLY! This manual contains the safety precautions and recommended assembly and operation techniques outlined by the manufacturer. Each Rookie Sidekick AIO Portable Hose Roller has been designed and constructed to minimize risk of injury whenever possible, however, improper use and/or unfamiliarity with recommended procedures can result in serious injury. 1

3 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION b a The Rookie Sidekick AIO mounts on any receiver hitch. Use adapter (a). Mount Sidekick to receiver hitch, making sure retaining pins (b) are in place. c The adapter between the Sidekick and the receiver hitch can be turned so that it raises 6 inches, lowers 6 inches, or makes the Sidekick level. f d e Once unit is attached to the adapter and secured with retaining pins, tighten jam bolt (c) to keep unit level. Place guide (d) in square tubing holders (e) making sure retaining pins (f) are in place and that the roller is situated at the farthest possible position away from the frame and aluminum disk as shown at left. 2

4 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION The Rookie Sidekick AIO comes equipped with a foot throttle control. Gas or electric. WHEN USING GAS MODEL, ALWAYS UNCOIL THE THROTTLE CABLE TO BE USED BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE! Never start the engine with the throttle cable that will be used still coiled within the frame. Uncoil the cable completely and make sure it is not twisted or kinked before starting the engine. 3

5 POWERING UP ALWAYS WEAR EYE, EAR, HEAD AND HAND PROTECTION WHEN OPERATING THE ROOKIE SIDEKICK AIO! Fueling the gas model Fuel gas engine model with unleaded fuel. Do not fill above the tank shoulder. IF ENGINE HAS BEEN RUN- NING ALLOW IT TO COOL BEFORE RE-FUELING. BE SURE FUEL SWITCH IS TURNED TO OFF POSI- TION WHILE TRANSPORT- ING THE SIDEKICK! Refer to Honda Operators Manual (included with your Sidekick) for proper fuel and oil specifications. 4

6 POWERING UP WARNING! DO NOT OPERATE ON AN INCLINE OF MORE THAN 20 DEGREES. OIL ALERT WILL SHUT DOWN ENGINE. MAKE SURE THROTTLE CABLE BEING USED IS UNCOILED BEFORE STARTING ENGINE AND CLEAR OF ROTATING PINS AT ALL TIMES! Gas Model Turn switch located on engine to ON position the fuel lever must be in the ON position. Start engine by pulling the starter grip until you feel resistance, then pull briskly. Return starter grip gently. The Gas Sidekick is now ready to operate. 5

7 POWERING UP BE SURE HANDS ARE CLEAR OF MOVING PARTS BEFORE OPERATING FOOT PEDAL OR HAND CONTROL! NOTE: THE ALL-IN-ONE MODEL INCORPORATES THE USE OF SLEEVES THAT SLIDE OVER THE PINS. DIFFERENT SIZES ARE INCLUDED TO FACILITATE THE DIFFERENCES IN HOSE COUPLING DIAMETERS. 6

8 POSITIONING & ROLLING HOSE Position end of hose between mandrel pins. Apply gradual pressure to foot pedal control (or hand throttle) holding hose with both hands. Hold the hose loosely, allowing it to slip through your hands while guiding it onto the mandrel. Controlling the speed of the rolling process, with foot control on gas models or control knob on electric models, will prevent risk of injury to the operator, as the end of the hose approaches. (See control knob picture at left.) As end approaches, leave at least 2 feet of hose and remove foot from control pedal. Fold remainder of hose over the top of rolled hose. 7

9 POSITIONING & ROLLING HOSE To stop the rolling process Remove foot pressure from control and/or turn power switch to OFF position. On gas engine models turn fuel valve lever to OFF position to prevent leakage when moving hose roller. 8

10 ROOKIE RELOADER OPERATION After rolling end-to-end the hose can be removed, placed in the Rookie Reloader and transported to the engine for re-decking. After moving to desired location release yellow lever and lower handle to set the brakes on the Reloader. The end of the hose can now be handed to operator on truck and will unroll with little effort, so that the hose can be put back on the truck bed. 9

11 STORAGE & MAINTENANCE When job is complete, turn switch on engine to OFF position to turn off the engine. Coil cable and secure control to framework. Periodically check for loosened nuts and screws. Tighten as needed. Oil in Gearbox Speed-reducer should be checked monthly (more often under severe conditions). Add or replace oil with SHC 634 Synthetic Gear Oil or Weight Petroleum Oil. 10
