1 2//2010 Section 01-14A: Handles, Locks, Latches and Mechanisms Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Procedure revision date: 03/16/1998 Latch, Door Front 1. Position door glass in the up position. 2. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and watershield. For additional information, refer to Section Unbolt the window regulator support bar from the door, and slide the bar out of the way to gain access to the door latch. 4. Check all hardware connections to front door latch (21812) and inside door handle and service as necessary.. Remove upper end of front door key cylinder rod from key cylinder lever. 6. Open retainer attaching outside door handle control rod to front door latch. 1 Front Outside Door Handle Assembly Front Door Key Cylinder Rod (RH) Front Door Key Cylinder Rod (LH) Front Door Latch (RH) Front Door Latch (LH) 4 Retaining Clip (Part of Door Latch) Front Door Latch Actuating Rod (RH) Front Door Latch Actuating Rod (LH) 7. Disconnect electrical connector for door ajar switch (attached to door latch). 8. Disconnect electrical connector for the adjunct power door latch actuator (if equipped). 9. Remove three screws attaching front door latch to front door.

Remove front door latch (with pushbutton rod and key cylinder rod attached) from front door cavity. 11. Remove cable watershield and cable from door latch. 12. To remove door ajar switch, use a flat-blade screwdriver to gently pry apart inner latch casing while twisting door ajar switch clockwise (for RH door latch) or counterclockwise (for LH door latch) until switch releases. Remove door ajar switch. 13. To remove adjunct door latch actuator, release retaining tab on actuator and slide actuator off door latch. 14. Transfer components to new front door latch as necessary. Rear 1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order. 2. Tighten front door latch retaining screws to Nm ( lb-in). 1. Position window glass in the up position. 2. Remove rear door trim panel (27406) and watershield. For additional information, refer to Section Check all hardware connections to rear door latch and inside door handle, including bellcrank and pushbutton rod. Service as necessary. 4. Remove rear door pushbutton rod. CAUTION: Do not drive out the center of the bellcrank rivet, or the door sheet metal may be damaged. Drill the rivet or cut the head of the rivet to remove it.. Remove one rivet retaining rear door latch bellcrank (26448) to rear door as described. 6. Remove rear door latch control rod retainer (220A48) from door by twisting with a flat-blade screwdriver. 7. Disconnect electrical connector for the door ajar switch. 8. Disconnect electrical connector for the adjunct power door latch actuator (if equipped). 9. Open retainer attaching outside door handle control rod to rear door latch. 1 W2172-S Rivet 2 Rear Door Lock Rod (part of rear door latch and remote control assy.) 3 Rear Door Latch Control Rod Rear Door Latch (RH) Rear Door Latch (LH)

3 2//2010 N S100 Screw (3 Req'd) 6 To Door Latch Actuator 7 N S Cable Clip 8 220A48 Retainer, Rear Door Latch Control Rod 9 Bellcrank (part of rear door latch and remote control assy.) A0 Rear Door Latch Bellcrank Pivot S417 Bellcrank Rivet A Tighten to Nm ( Lb-In) 10. Remove three screws retaining rear door latch to rear door. 11. Remove the door lock actuator rivet Feed latch and link rod forward in door far enough to twist and remove latch from link rod. Leave link rod in this position in vehicle. Remove door latch from vehicle. 13. Remove cable watershield and cable from door latch. 14. Remove the rear door latch. 1. To remove door ajar switch, use a flat-blade screwdriver to gently pry apart inner latch casing while twisting door ajar switch clockwise (for RH door latch) or counterclockwise (for LH door latch) until switch releases. Remove door ajar switch. 16. To remove adjunct door latch actuator, release tab on actuator and slide actuator off door latch. 17. Transfer components to new door latch as required. 1. With the following exceptions, follow removal procedure in reverse order. 2. Replace rear door latch bellcrank pivot (264A0). 3. Use Heavy-Duty Riveter 01-D011 (D80L A) or equivalent to install rivet S417 that attaches bellcrank assembly to rear door. 4. Tighten rear door latch retaining screws to Nm ( lb-in).

4 2//2010 Liftgate 1. Open liftgate (40010). 2. Remove liftgate inside trim panel. Refer to Section Disconnect anti-theft switch connector. 4. Unsnap and release liftgate latch release rod from rear license plate housing and bracket (17B390).. Pry out and remove two push-pin retainers and remove liftgate latch cover. 6. Remove three retaining screws and remove luggage compartment door latch (43200) from liftgate. 7. Transfer liftgate latch release rod (43329) to new luggage compartment door latch. 1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order. 2. Tighten liftgate latch retaining screws to Nm ( lb-in). Liftgate Door Latch Liftgate Latch
