3 1. General This manual covers two cable hoist kits manufactured by Hobart Brothers Company and identified as Part No and Part No A cable hoist, when used, is used with a Hobart solid-state frequency converter mounted under a passenger boarding bridge at an airport, or with a gate box mounted on the side of the bridge. The purpose of a cable hoist (Fig. 1) is to lift the power cable off the ground when it is not in use and connected to an aircraft. Basically, there are two major components of the hoist kit, the cable hoist positioner, and the control box, as illustrated in Figure 1. The cable hoist identified by Part Number is rated for 230, 460, or 575-V AC input at 50-Hz or 60-Hz. The cable hoist identified by Part Number is rated for 380-V AC or 415-V AC input. 2. Location When mounted for use with a solid state frequency converter or gate box, this cable hoist is to be located on the boarding bridge near the place where the converter or gate box is mounted. It is to be positioned such that, when the bridge is lowered to its lowest point, the hoist will be able to lift the cable above the ground. The control box for the cable hoist is to be located near the power box for the passenger boarding bridge. 3. Installing the Cable Hoist The means chosen by the customer for mounting the cable hoist equipment should be sufficient to hold the items of hoist equipment securely where mounted, and allowance must be made for the weight of the cable which will be held and lifted by the hoist: The positioner weights approximately 180 pounds (81.63 kg) and a typical converter cable weighs approximately 170 pounds (77.1 kg). Thus the holding means for the cable hoist positioner must be able to accomodate at least 350 pounds ( kg). The control box weights approximately 80 pounds (36.3 kg). After selecting locations for the hoist equipment, make certain that it is supported securely while it is being mounted. Make certain also, while mounting that the area beneath the mounting position is clear of personnel and other equipment. WARNING ELECTRICAL SHOCK CAN KILL! Make certain that power is turned OFF at the power source before wiring the equipment. CAUTION To prevent damage to the input (power) transformer of the positioner, refer to the schematic/connection diagram and make certain that the proper terminals on the transformer are selected for making connections. When the positioner has been securely mounted to the passenger boarding bridge, refer to Schematic/Connection diagrams (at the back of this manual) and: Install the wiring which is required between the hoist control box and the positioner. Install the required power cables from the power source to the input (power) transformer inside the positioner. 4. Parts List Figure 2 is an illustration showing the parts which comprise the cable hoist positioner, and Figure 3 is an illustration showing the parts within the control box. February 12/91 Page 1
