6 Overview General description PE58820 Flusarc is medium voltage switchgear, suitable for 40.5 kv rated voltage and specifi cally designed for secondary distribution in MV wind farms and MV/LV substations. Flusarc is protected switchgear for indoor use and uses low-pressure SF6 gas to insulate the switchgear itself. Main characteristics Flusarc switchgear ensures a high level of personnel safety by including the following features: b Direct earthing of the entire switchgear structure b Total segregation of the live parts, which are contained inside a stainless steel housing, hermetically sealed and fi lled with SF6 gas b Arc fault compartments b Equipped with earthing switches with making capacity b Mechanical interlocks, allowing precise sequencing of operations. Assembly view of some possible Flusarc switchgear confi gurations The use of SF6 gas prevents any possibility of fi re. An overpressure safety valve, located under the switchgear, allows the gas to escape, so avoiding any possible danger for the operator, while a pressure gauge allows the continuous monitoring of the pressure inside the metal housing. Insulating all live parts with SF6 gas reduces to a minimum the possibility of faults between the phases or towards the earth. With low pressure gas (0.3 bar, relative pressure), the sealing systems are simple and reliable, ensure correct operation for at least 30 years, with no need for refi lling. The switchgear is unaffected by the outside ambient conditions and is therefore particularly suitable for installation in the presence of industrial pollution or in a salty, wet climate. All control operations are performed from the front of the switchgear, via easy-to-use functional controls. Mechanical devices indicate the position of the different components. The switchgear is low-rise and compact, thus offering the following advantages: b Can be installed in very small premises (such as cabins, cellars, mobile substations, etc.) b Small, cheap infrastructures b Low-cost transport and installation. 7 Overview Environmental considerations PE58834 The switchgear meets rigourous environmental requirements due to: b Optimization of materials and energy consumption during manufacturing b Compliance with all environmental requirements during its service life b The use of recyclable materials for efficient disposal at the end of its service life. Our design directive regarding environmentally compatible design specifies the use of materials which can be dismantled and are easily recyclable. The metals which form approximately 90% of the switchgear are easily recyclable. They can be 100% recycled as new metal components at the end of their service life. Disposal valve Plastics can also be recycled The thermosetting plastics can be fragmented and reused as fi llers in other plastic components; the thermoplastic materials can be recycled in new plastic components. This means that the material is recovered, processed and re-used in the manufacture of new parts. To ensure effi cient and environmentally friendly dismantling and sorting of materials by responsible disposal experts, all plastic components are identifi ed accordingly. Moreover, material and operation data sheets are available to provide the customer with an overview of the materials used, and the disposal company with important information regarding the recycling process. Thus, the materials used for our products can be 100% recycled. This makes a vital contribution to savings in world energy and raw material resources. All materials were selected and developed so that, for example, switchgear affected by a fi re in a building would have a minimal effect on the fi re load (heat development and pollutants in the emissions). Another important ecological aspect is the longevity of our products (approx. 30 years), which is an extremely long service life compared to other capital goods. Also, Flusarc switchgear units are designed to require little maintenance, giving further energy and material savings, and to enable straightforward replacement of component parts. The high-voltage conducting parts of our gas-insulated switchgear units are hermetically sealed in insulating inert gas (sulphur hexafl uoride SF6 which is neither reactive nor toxic). Thus, all environmental influences which could reduce the service life are designed out. The special nature of the insulating gas also allows the overall size to be reduced by approximately 30% compared to switchgear without insulating gas but with equivalent technical characteristics. This again saves on material and saves on the energy required to produce the material. The amount of insulating gas used in Flusarc is approx. 0.5% of the total weight of the switchgear. Once the switchgear s service life has ended, the gas can be completely extracted via the disposal valve provided in each gas-fi lled compartment and then recycled. To this end, the gas suppliers developed an effi cient recycling method. In normal operation, the switchgear needs no refi lling during the entire service life. 16 Description Incoming/outgoing unit (C) The line unit consists of a switch disconnector and an earthing switch. The switch disconnector consists of three poles mounted on a steel structure and connected to a common shaft which, in turn, is connected to the operating mechanism. The pole consists of an upper and lower part, in epoxy resin. The upper part houses the fi xed contacts and the connection to the busbars, while the lower part houses the sliding contacts, the moving contacts and the piston for the blowing action. The control can be either manual or motorized (upon request). In the manual version, the device can only be operated using the operating lever supplied in the delivery. In the motorized version, it can be operated either locally or by remote control. 17 Description Unit with vacuum circuit breaker (CB) The CB unit consists of a vacuum circuit breaker connected in series with a 3-position, independent operation disconnector, allowing the insulation and earthing of the line. The three disconnector positions are: b a - service position b b - isolated position b c - earthing position (in this condition it is possible to access the cables compartment, in order to carry out maintenance or to install the cables themselves). Three disconnector positions The three position disconnector operation is only possible when the circuit breaker is open. The circuit breaker operating mechanism is of mechanical type, with energy accumulation and trip-free. It can be customized with a wide range of accessories, easily and quickly installed on an accessory plate. This plate, produced as a single block and fi tted to the front of the circuit breaker, allows the accessories to be dismounted/ mounted easily, thus facilitating any replacement or maintenance operations. 18 Description Accessories PE58823 Flusarc switchgear is supplied in a basic confi guration, which can be equipped with a series of accessories available upon request. Operation counter The operation counter is a mechanical device, installed on the accessory plate. It records the total number of the circuit breaker closing-opening cycles. 19 Description Accessories PE58828 Demagnetization opening solenoid The demagnetization opening solenoid is coupled with self supplied protection relays. PE58829 Demagnetization opening solenoid PE58830 Gear motor for loading springs It automatically loads the springs after a close operation. It is equipped with an anti-pumping control circuit which operates when the OPEN and CLOSED signals are simultaneously present. In this case, the circuit breaker returns to the OPEN position, once the close is completed. It remains in this position until a new close signal is sent out, thus preventing the circuit breaker from continuously opening and closing. 22 Description Cable connection Connecting to Flusarc switchgear is made easy by the highly accessible position of the insulator bushings. The operator has only to remove the cable cover box. The insulator bushings can be plug-in or screw-in. The disconnectable cable terminals can be completely insulated or partially insulated. The following table describes the possible connections to Flusarc switchgear. Solutions with 2 cables and 1 cable and surge arrester are also possible. 24 Installation Switchgear installation Flusarc switchgear is fi tted with a drilled base for fl oor fi tting. DE59887 Nr.4-14 x 20 B A Dimensions (mm) 40.5 kv A (width) 500/550 B (depth) 1155 Drilled base to fi t the switchgear to the fl oor. Use suitable expansion anchor bolts to fi t the equipment to the fl oor. Ensure that the fl oor is completely fl at and level (tolerance > 2 mm per 1000 mm). 25 Installation Switchgear installation DE The back of the device must be at least 100 mm away from any wall. This distance must be strictly observed in order to allow a possible gas fl ow-off through the pressure relief valve. The dimensions are expressed in mm. DE59889 Safety in case of overpressure The interrupting mechanisms are installed in stainless steel tanks fi lled with SF6 gas. The Flusarc is used as an insulating and breaking medium for the switch disconnector. The Flusarc is a pressurized sealed unit system that complies with the IEC standard. During the service life of the switchboard and under normal operating conditions, an additional fi lling of SF6 gas is not necessary. In the case of excessive pressure, the gas-filled compartment is discharged towards the bottom via safety valves. Evacuation of the SF6 in case of tank overpressure NRJED312363EN 23
26 Installation Shipping Packaging Strictly observe the symbols and the instructions shown on the packaging. Flusarc switchgears are usually packed either in a cardboard box or in a wooden case and fi rmly fastened at the base to a wooden pallet, but they can also be packed with other methods, according to the shipment and storing requirements and customer requests. The apparatus is protected by polystyrene foam panels and wrapped in a waterproof plastic housing to prevent any water infiltration during the loading and unloading phases and to protect from dust during storage.. Leave the equipment in its original packaging during storage. If units or parts are unpacked for checking, they must be repacked for continued storage, using the original packaging. Avoid condensation. Transport The vehicle used for transport must be equipped with a loading platform covered in an anti-slip material with a high friction coeffi cient. The switchgear must be positioned on the loading platform transversally and back to back. Suitable packing materials must be placed between the devices to prevent any contact between the devices. On the loading platform, specially designed longitudinal bars must be installed to space every switchgear unit and prevent both any longitudinal or transversal movement. The various switchgear units must be lashed to the vehicle with ropes, in such a way as to avoid deformation and to prevent the units form tipping over on bends or during sudden braking. In addition, the vehicle used for transport must be equipped with a covering sheet. PE58838 Handling When handling the switchgear, no stress should be placed on any externally mounted cable connection bushings. In order to lift the Flusarc switchgear inside its packaging, use a lift truck with sufficient power to lift the apparatus weight, taking care to verify that the pack remains perfectly balanced during the lifting phase. Once the packaging is removed, lift the Flusarc switchgear using the special eyebolts fitted to the upper surface with a bridge crane, crane or lift truck with suitable lifting capacity.
