Design and Fabrication of Dual Side Wiper System With Mist Control S Senthil Kumar, K Ganesh, N Ganesh Kumar, J Gautam Mechanical Engineering Department R.M.K College Of Engineering And Technology, Puduvoyal ABSTRACT The aim is to design and develop a control system based an electronically led automotive rain operated motor is called automatic rain operated wiper. Rain operated motor is consists of wiper motor, wiper, fiberglass. This increase the visibility of the driver. But the wiper actuation has to be controlled by the driver himself. There is any rain on the glass this led to the invention of different speed wiper motor. To provide tension free driving, automatic wiper was invented for the working of the automatic dual wiper. A windscreen wiper or windshield wiper is a device used to remove rain and debris from windscreen. Almost all motor vehicle, including trains, aircraft and watercraft, are equipped with such wiper, which are usually an essential requirement. INTRODUCTION We have pleasure in introducing our new project AUTOMATIC DUAL SIDE WIPER SYSTEM WITH MIST CONTROL, which is fully equipped by and wiper motor. It is a genuine project which is fully equipped and designed for Automobile vehicles. This forms an integral part of best quality. This product underwent a strenuous test in our Automobile vehicles and it is good. This caused a distraction to the driver's visibility. This led to the invention of different speed wiper motors. This increases the visibility of the driver. But the wiper actuation has to be controlled by the driver himself. To provide tension free driving, automatic wipers were invented. For the working of the automatic wipers, A windscreen wiper or windshield wiper is a device used to remove rain and debris from a windscreen. Almost all motor vehicle, including trains, aircraft, and watercraft, are equipped with such wipers, which are usually an essential requirement. A wiper generally consists of an arm, pivoting at one end and with a long rubber blade attached to the other. The blade is swung back and forth over the glass, pushing water from its surface. The speed is normally adjustable, with several continuous speeds and often one or more "intermittent" settings. Most automobiles use two synchronized radial type arms. It takes a lot of force to accelerate the wiper blades back and forth across the windshield so quickly. In order to generate this type of force, a worm gear is used on the output of a small electric motor. The worm gear reduction can multiply the torque of the motor by about 50 times while slowing the output speed of the electric motor by 50 times as well. The output of the gear reduction operates a linkage that moves the wipers back and forth.. This circuit also parks the wipers between wipes when they are on their intermittent setting. With drivers exposed to an ever-increasing number of distractions.. Systems become an even more appealing feature, as they work to minimize the time the driver must take his/her hands off the wheel. These systems detect droplets of rain on the windshield and automatically turn on and adjust the wiper system in accordance with the level of precipitation.. Over the past two decades, the automotive industry has aggressively researched ways to exploit modern computing and electronic advances in the development of safety, reliability, and entertainment technologies. Despite this, automatic rain-sensing wiper systems are relatively uncommon in modern vehicles for a number of reasons. They are often too expensive, too unsightly, or too unreliable to be desired in new automobiles. Many attempts have been made at constructing an effective, reliable, and wiper control system for vehicles speed and intermittent interval automatically according to the 92 S Senthil Kumar, K Ganesh, N Ganesh Kumar, J Gautam
amount of rain. are used widely they have some disadvantage. One of the disadvantages is the sensitivity to external light. Another problem is occurs when a car drives at night or gone through the tunnel and even in underground parking. For this many systems still, activate the wiper when the car comes out of tunnels or underground parking lot. Another shortfall, maybe a major one is that the sensing area is a relatively small portion of the windshield. Hence the system operates only with limited area. The wiper system may fail to activate when there are some raindrops on the driver s line of sight, but not on the sensing area. They are often too expensive, too unsightly, or too unreliable to be desired in new automobiles. NEED OF AUTOMATIC WIPERS In case of trucks, the actuation of wipers during the rainy season is based on the switch which is being operated by the driver. In plain roads or four-lane roads, this may not be a big problem. But in the congested or hilly areas during heavy rain driving is a bit difficult because of operating the wiper continuously along with the driving. A few years ago, there were some accidents reported in north India. These accidents claimed precious lives due to hinder in the visibility of the driver during heavy rain. There was an accident reported in the hilly regions of Himalayas. A driver was driving the truck in heavy rain in this region. Due to heavy rain, the mist formed inside the windshield, the driver was unable to see the road properly. The result was that the truck fell into a cliff of height 50mts. This accident claimed four lives. Even though driver operates the wiper, will not clear the visibility because of formation of the mist inside the vehicle. The same mist should be removed frequently to improve the visibility of the driver in case of commercial vehicles. From the above incident, it clearly shows that one of the reasons for the accidents due to unclear vision during heavy rain. WIPER MOTOR A windscreen wiper or windshield wiper is a device used to remove rain, snow, ice, and debris from a windscreen or windshield. Almost all motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, train locomotives, watercraft with a cabin and some aircraft, are equipped with such wipers, which are usually a legal requirement. A wiper generally consists of a metal arm, pivoting at one end and with a long rubber blade attached to the other. The arm is powered by a motor, often an electric motor, although pneumatic power is also used in some vehicles. The blade is swung back and forth over the glass, pushing water or other precipitation from its surface. The speed is normally adjustable, with several continuous speeds and often one or more "intermittent" settings. Most automobiles use two synchronized radial type arms, while many commercial vehicles use one or more pantograph arms. On some vehicles, a windshield washer system is also used. This system sprays water or an antifreeze window washer fluid at the windshield using several nozzles. The windshield washer system helps to remove dirt or dust from the windshield when it is used in concert with the wiper blades. When antifreeze windshield washer fluid is used, it can help the wipers to remove snow or ice. For winter conditions, some vehicles have additional heaters aimed at the windows or embedded heating wire in the glass. These defroster systems help to keep snow and ice from building up on the windshield. In rare cases, miniature wipers are installed on headlights. OBJECTIVES This project aims to develop an Automated Rain Operated System taking the following objectives: To dispense with troublesome wiper operation needed when rainfall condition change or driving condition change, including the car speed and entry to or exit from tunnels. To operate the wiper with response to changing rainfall or driving conditions, thus keeping the driver s windshield clear. To implement a control system this reduces human efforts. To increase automation in vehicle driving system. To achieve high safety by reducing the driver s workload. To minimize rates of an accident caused by distraction in driving. To make the system easy to install. 93 S Senthil Kumar, K Ganesh, N Ganesh Kumar, J Gautam
To develop a cheaper automated system that can be integrated easily BLOCK DIAGRAM used in some vehicles. Fiber Glass Modern windshields are generally made of laminated safety glass, a type of treated glass, which consists of two (typically) curved sheets of glass with a plastic layer laminated between them for safety, and are bonded into the window frame Wiper Motor A wiper generally consists of a metal arm, pivoting at one end and with a long rubber blade attached to the other. The arm is powered by a motor, often an electric motor, although pneumatic power is also Battery An electric battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections provided to power electrical devices such as flashlights, smartphones, and electric cars. When a battery is supplying electric power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. 94 S Senthil Kumar, K Ganesh, N Ganesh Kumar, J Gautam
It takes a lot of torque to accelerate the wiper blades to and fro across the windshield. In order to generate this type of force, a worm gear is used on the output shaft of the electric motor. The main function of this gear is to multiply the torque generated by the motor. This torque is used to drive the linkages which connect the external wiper sticks. The worm is connected to the armature shaft of the motor. The worm wheel drives the motor wheel. This wheel is connected to the linkages which drive the wiper stick. In this project, the motor used multiplies the torque by 25 times. Wiper The wiper blades are made of a rubber compound and are held on to the windshield wiper glass by a spring in the wiper arm. The aerodynamic properties of the wiper blades have become increasingly important due to the design of the vehicle as different air currents flow on and around the screen area. The strip on top of the rubber element is often perforated to reduce air drag. WORKING PRINCIPLE The working of automatic wipers and internal wiper to wipe the mist formed inside the vehicles is based on the concept, which makes use of a combination of the wiper motor. The inside wiper used to control the formation of the mist in the rainy seasons the inner wiper motor to actuate the parallel action and control the mist and fog METHODOLOGY WIPER LINKAGE MECHANISM The linkage mechanism is used to convert the rotary motion to linear motion. One end of the link is connected to the wiper motor and another end is connected to the ankle. The wiper linkage combines two mechanisms. A combination of electric motor and worm gear reduction provides power to the wipers. A linkage converts the rotational output of the motor into the to and fro motion of the wipers. 95 S Senthil Kumar, K Ganesh, N Ganesh Kumar, J Gautam
ADVANTAGES Low-cost automation project. Free from wear adjustment. Less power consumption Operating Principle is very easy. Installation is simplified very much. APPLICATIONS Four wheeler application PHOTOGRAPH CONCLUSION The concept of Automatic Wipers with Mist Control has been implemented successfully. After the experimental setup, the wiper motor was tested for all the following conditions drizzling, heavy rain, medium rain. The test has been conducted under mist on the windshield. The mist has been removed successfully from the windshield. By the uses of automatic wipers, one can drive the commercial vehicles without any distractions to operate the wipe. Use of internal wipers ensures good visibility to the driver, which in turn prevents the accidents REFERENCES 1. Applied Electronics By R.S Sedha In 1990 S Chand & Company Limited. 2.
