ROBA -ES, the lterntive to torsionlly rigid shft couplings. ROBA -ES - flexible nd bcklsh-free smrtflex - torsionlly rigid nd bcklsh-free Bcklsh is the ngulr tolernce between the input nd the output, lso known s torsionl bcklsh. Mny conventionl flexible couplings re subject to bcklsh due to their construction type. The myr -couplings ROBA -ES, smrtflex nd ROBA -DS Type series trnsmit the torque bcklsh-free. 4 ROBA -ES elstomeric elements Elstomeric Elements The elstomeric elements re the centrl element of the ROBA -ES-coupling. They define the ppliction rnge s well s the shft connection behviour vi the permitted torque, rigidity, dmping nd mislignment vlues. By using unique polyurethne mteril nd specil injection procedure, it is possible to chieve high dimensionl ccurcy nd evenness in the teeth of the elstomeric element. The elstomeric elements re vilble in different shore hrdnesses. The teeth of the elstomeric element re chmfered t the sides. This mkes blind instlltion esier. Dimensioning The chrcteristics of ROBA -ES couplings cn be gretly vried by using different elstomeric elements. Due to different dmping chrcteristics nd the non-liner rigidity of the elstomer, this element lso offers more prmeters thn the steel shft connection, which should be tken into ccount on selection. We therefore recommend creful, thorough coupling dimensioning (see Dimensioning pge 14). Agent Resistnce The elstomeric elements re very resistnt ginst: pure minerl oils (lubricting oils) nd nhydrous greses. They hve similr resistnce ginst fuels such s regulr-grde petroleum diesel oil kerosene. Dmge my occur fter longer exposure to lcohols or romtic fuels (super/four str petrol). The elstomeric element mteril used is resistnt to hydrolysis. In contrst to other polyurethne mterils, wter (including sewter) cuses, even fter yers of exposure, no prticulr chnges to the mechnicl chrcteristics. Hot wter, however, reduces the mechnicl strength. The design is constructionlly identicl to the P-design (pge 9). The symmetry, the bsence of keywys nd rdil bores produces n optimum shft run out. Therefore, much higher torques re possible compred to the other hub designs (plese observe the Blncing Digrm, pge 12). The torque is trnsmitted vi frictionl locking onto the shft. This design is vilble in stndrd vrint nd vrint ccording to DIN The DIN vrint hs n elstomeric element with centrl, stndrdised bore nd stndrdised bore dimeters in the hubs. The DIN vrints re conceived for use in short bore spindles nd multi-spindle heds. Becuse of the steel hubs, this DIN design combines robustness with precision. This design should be selected in preference to others, in prticulr on pplictions with hevily tumescent or lternting lods. 12 ROBA -ES Technicl Explntions Technicl Explntions ROBA -ES stnds for flexible (E), bcklsh-free (S) shft coupling. The device consists of two coupling hubs nd flexible, str-shped intermedite ring (Fig. 6). ROBA -ES couplings re conceived specilly for bcklshfree opertion t comprtively high speeds. ROBA -ES couplings re minly used in mesurement nd regultory technology s well s in control nd procedure technology. Coupling hub Stte of Delivery ROBA -ES couplings re delivered mnufcturer-ssembled. The str-shped intermedite ring must be pressed under light pretension (Fig. 7) into the specilly formed jws. Fig. 6 Flexible intermedite ring Fig. 7 The principle of bcklsh-free torque trnsmission is possible due to this pre-tension. ROBA -ES couplings re delivered in four torque vritions; tht is with four different flexible intermedite rings vrying in shore hrdness nd colour (see Type key pge 5). Due to the smll construction dimensions nd therefore the low mss moments of inerti, the device llows itself to be instlled even into smll instlltion spces. Shft Mislignments The ROBA -ES coupling is cpble of compensting for rdil, xil nd ngulr shft mislignments (Fig. 9), without losing their resistnce to bcklsh. However, the permitted shft mislignments shown on pge 5 must not simultneously rech their mximum vlue. If more thn one kind of mislignment tkes plce simultneously, they influence ech other. This mens tht the permitted mislignment vlues re dependent on one nother (see Fig. 8). Therefore, the sum totl of the ctul mislignments in percent of the mximum vlue my not exceed 100 %. The permitted mislignment vlues given on pge 5 refer to coupling opertion t nominl torque, n mbient temperture of +30 C nd n operting speed of 1500 rpm. They re not blnced for stndrd delivery. Shrink disk hubs: Shrink disk hubs cn mintin blnce qulity G = 6,3 up to speed n G (equls c. 30 m/s) without needing to be blnced. Above this speed, we recommend blncing. The hubs re blnced individully. Digrm 1 shows reference vlues. We recommend you use these vlues to blnce the coupling components. Smooth running of mchine or system is not only dependent on the blnce qulity of the coupling, but lso on mny prmeters such s rigidity or distnce to the djcent bering. Therefore there re no fixed rules in which conditions you hve to blnce. 13 ROBA -ES Instlltion Guidelines nd Exmples Instlltion Guidelines Instlltion Due to its optimized construction, the ROBA -ES coupling cn be inserted xilly onto the input or output shfts fter instlltion of the hubs. Subsequent screwing-on nd complicted specilconstruction housing is no longer necessry (see Instlltion Exmple pge 13). Plese Observe!!! The instlltion or instlltion dimensions must be kept to so tht there is no fcing-side pressure on the elstomeric element fter clutch instlltion hs been completed, mening tht the elstomeric element must not be distorted xilly. By keeping to the instlltion dimensions (in prticulr dimension E, see Dimension Figs. nd Dimension Tbles, pges 6 9), the elstomeric element s xil flexibility remins gurnteed. On elstomeric elements with differing numbers of nubs, the side with the lrger number of nubs must be instlled first (for esier instlltion). Due to the pre-tension on the flexible elstomeric element, n xil instlltion force is required when joining the coupling hubs. The xil instlltion force required cn be reduced by lightly gresing the elstomeric element. OBSERVE: Only use grese bsed on minerl oil without dditives. Vseline is lso suitble. Instlltion of the shrink disk hubs (ROBA -ES Type 940._11._) The conicl surfces of the shrink disk hubs re gresed mnufcturer-side with specil grese (should the device be clened, the device must be re-gresed with specil grese). - Push the shrink disk hubs using suitble device into both shft ends, lign them nd tighten the clmping screws lightly up to their limits. - Tighten the clmping screws evenly stepwise nd cross-wise to the specified tightening torque (see pges 8 nd 9) using torque wrench. - For de-instlltion, loosen ll clmping screws by severl thred turns. - The clmping screws locted next to the tpped extrcting holes must be screwed out, nd then screwed into the tpped extrcting holes up to their limits. - Tighten the clmping screws evenly nd crosswise. This forces the shrink disk wy from the conicl shrink disk hub. Sfety Regultions The coupling rottes during opertion. It must be secured customer-side ginst indvertent contct. Instlltion nd mintennce must be crried out by personnel who hve been trined ccordingly. The torque definition on the coupling is pplicble if the shft coupling in the system is the torsionlly softest element, nd therefore the system cn be considered s double-mss oscilltor. If this is not the cse, the clcultion of the torque on the coupling requires more detiled clcultion procedure The impct fctors S A / S L describe the impct progression. A rectngulr progression of the impct torque is the heviest impct (S A /S L =2,0). A flt sinus progression of the impct torque is light impct (S A /S L =1,2) T S, the pek torque in the coupling, is the mximum torque on the coupling during the impct minus the system torque hving n effect on the coupling during norml opertion T S = T mx. impct - T N 5.4. If drive is operted supercriticlly, mening tht the operting speed n lies bove the resonnce speed n R, then resonnce pssing through cuses prticulr lods If the resonnce psses through quickly below the operting speed, only few resonnce peks occur. The lternting torque in resonnce cn therefore be compred to the mximum torque on the coupling (see lso 5.6) 5.5. S f tkes the frequency dependency of lifetime into ccount.
