2 Rotary Unions Introduction The name OTT has been standing for high technology for more than 13 years. Meeting the customer s requirements is our daily work. The implementation of our drawbars provides the evidence of good quality. Contents OTT-JKOB s purpose has been to design rotary unions which perfectly harmonize with a power drawbar. The result is the type 1K-GD. The special feature of these rotary unions is the permanently closed sealing surface. The standard performance parameters are RPM at bar coolant pressure and longest life expectancy caused by specially sealed and labyrinth-protected hybrid bearings. The required me dia purity is only <0 μm! dditionally we offer sev eral special GD rotary union types, like for example for high speed up to RPM, for higher coolant pres sure, for special dry operations during rotation or higher flow volume. The rotary unions type GD are also suited for operations with an externally mixed erosol (MQS minimum volume lubrication). ll OTT-JKOB rotary unions are balanced and tested after the assembly. The closed sealing surface is unique on the market and proved in thou sands of rotary unions supplied. Due to these features, the volume of leakage is only small, the temperature is low and the life span of the sealing is well longer than the life span of the hybrid bearings. This is very important if the power drawbar is assembled in a very sensitive motor spindle. Rotary Unions Owing to the modularity of the OTT-Jakob rotary unions, it is possible to assemble them in all OTT-JKOB power drawbars with unclamp units connected. 13 Complete Systems Standardization requires meeting the needs of the user. The Ott universal inside spindle contour is an important step towards modular tooling. It offers the manufacturer of machines and /or spindle units the ability to clamp different steep taper tools (taper/retention knob standard) simply by exchanging the gripper unit. Several variations of power drawbars with or without coolant, with hydraulic or pneumatic unclamp units can be built into the same spindles. Our rotary unions and unclamp units together with our clamping systems and the original OTT-JKOB HSK-clamping units form a unbeatable team.
