1 MINNESOTA BANK PERFORMANCE: THIRD QUARTER This chart shows the financial performance during the third quarter of 2009 of the 422 banks based in Minnesota. Key: Equity capital A bank s equity capital is the cushion that a bank can draw on when loans default or assets fall in value. It consists of a bank s common stock and its reserves, or accumulated earnings; Noncurrent loans and leases A noncurrent loan is a loan in which payments have fallen behind by 90 days or more. Many of these loans are never repaid and can lead to loan losses for the bank. A bank s noncurrent loans should not exceed 10 percent of its total loans. The national average is 3 percent; Tier One Risk-Based Capital Ratio A bank s Tier One Risk-Based Capital Ratio is a bank s common stock and reserves divided by its assets. It is a key measure of a bank s ability to withstand future loan losses. A bank must maintain a ratio of 6 percent or more to be considered well capitalized by regulators; Loss Allowance to Loans A bank s loss allowance is the amount of cash it sets aside to cover future loan losses. A bank s loss allowance generally should not dip below 1 percent of its loans. The national average is 2.4 percent; Net Charge-Off Ratio A bank s net charge-off ratio is the percentage of its loans that are written off as bad debts, less recoveries. A ratio of 3 percent or more is considered too high. 1st American State Bank Hancock $18,396 $434 $1,578 -$1, % 7.2% 14.0% 3.4% 1st Regents Bank Andover 88,226 7,931 3,886-2, st United Bank Faribault 122,174 11,147 1,204 1, st Century Bank Loretto 390,312 44,375 3,034 1, Access Bank Champlin 38,142 1, , Adrian State Bank Adrian 28,455 3, Alliance Bank Lake City 685,446 73,760 27,301 1, Altura State Bank Altura 42,982 6, American Bank of St. Paul Saint Paul 630,130 55,332 26,653-8, American Bank of the North Nashwauk 647,191 55,490 11,576 4, American Heritage National Bank Long Prairie 201,540 21,987 1,580 1, American Investors Bank and Mortgage Eden Prairie 73,631 5, American National Bank Baxter 301,090 32,094 8, American State Bank of Erskine Erskine 22,542 3, American State Bank of Grygla Grygla 22,909 2, Americana Community Bank Sleepy Eye 186,009 10,769 10,187-4, Anchor Bank Heritage North Saint Paul 251,857 21,028 3, Anchor Bank Wayzata 458,252 31,854 5,202 1, Anchor Bank St. Paul Saint Paul 703,868 57,252 21, Annandale State Bank Annandale 119,367 15,736 3,586 1, Arlington State Bank Arlington 52,080 5,311 2, Atwater State Bank Atwater 37,565 2,551 1, Avon State Bank Avon 101,629 11,897 1, Bank of Maple Plain Maple Plain 55,771 9,057 2, Bank of Zumbrota Zumbrota 127,024 13, BankCherokee Saint Paul 237,034 16,386 10,218-4, BankVista Sartell 101,002 8,909 2, Bankwest Rockford 121,555 9,786 5, Beacon Bank Shorewood 316,882 30,058 5, Blaine State Bank Blaine 33,701 6, Bonanza Valley State Bank Brooten 46,379 4, Border State Bank Greenbush 348,227 31,545 15,051-2, Boundary Waters Bank Ely 136,946 15,747 6, Brainerd Savings and Loan Brainerd 69,581 4, Bremer Bank Saint Cloud 652,802 65,690 7,539 5, Bremer Bank International Falls 108,677 7, Bremer Bank Willmar 526,596 47,105 3,395 4, Bremer Bank Alexandria 602,313 54,072 7,011 3, Bremer Bank Brainerd 356,593 33,604 3,913 1, Bremer Bank South St. Paul 2,779, ,698 30,606 11, Bridgewater Bank Bloomington 366,258 30,575 4, Cambridge State Bank Cambridge 95,306 9,111 1, Canton State Bank Canton 27,943 2, Capital Bank St. Paul 37,790 2, Castle Rock Bank Castle Rock 129,191 16,452 1,707 1, CenBank Buffalo Lake 38,705 2, Center National Bank Litchfield 154,119 18,324 1,931 1, Central Bank Stillwater 768,950 48,343 21,512 6, Choice Financial Savings Bank Comfrey 17,185 2, Citizens Bank & Trust Co.
