DOC-SE-001 Ver 5.9 Writer: LD INVERTER FOR DC CRANE CABIN AIR CONDITIONING UNIT 3KW VERSION In many locations, having air conditioning in a crane cabin is very important for the crane operator. But inexpensive 120V or 240V air conditioning units cannot easily be used on cranes supplied by a DC bus. With this inverter you can also supply electrical devices like: lights, heater, and vacuum. This inverter is adapted to convert 250Vdc system voltages to 120/240Vac to allow the use of standard air conditioning units on DC cranes. In addition, the inverter is specifically designed to operate in the harsh environmental conditions found near cranes.

The standard length of this cable is 4 feet. Adelser can provide you a longer cable, upon request (ie: 10 feet or 15 feet). Please indicate if you want a custom cable length when you place your order.

7 Page 7 of 11 Electrical Diagram: ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS We recommend that you install a fused service disconnect or safety switch similar to the Square D D321NRB or GE TG3221 between the Crane DC Bus and the power input to the Adelser Crane Inverter Electronics box. The DC Input to the Inverter needs a fuse rated at 25 or 30 Amps. The two cables exit the bottom of the Inverter Electronics box and are clearly labeled + (red) and (black). Hard wire them to the safety switch output. There is a diode protection circuit that prevents damage to the inverter in case the + and are inadvertently reversed.

If you bought the 1kW you can switch to the 3kW by buying the 3kW magnetic cabinet. In each case the inverter box is the same. Voltage Over/Under-protection Algorithm There is a circuit in the Adelser Crane Inverter that protects the output section in the event that the input DC bus falls below 185VDC or rises above 550VDC. When the input voltage is outside this range, the inverter disables the output for a period of 45 seconds. The reason for this time delay is to allow for an air conditioner compressor to return to a low pressure condition and prevent the air conditioner from demanding a spike of current from the inverter which would then cause the inverter to shut down (again) in response. Once the input voltage returns to the voltage level of VDC, the inverter will wait 45 seconds and resume normal operations. The crane operator may notice the momentary interruption in air conditioning during some crane operations which affect the DC bus voltage. The inverter is designed to withstand momentary spikes on the DC bus not to exceed 725 VDC. Start-up Routine

10 Wiring to a standard 3-prong plug Page 10 of 11 The 120VAC output of the inverter is a NEMA L6-30: g : Ground y : Hot x : Neutral 120 V AC L6-30R Terminal ID: Green-Ground (g), Silver-Neutral (x), Brass-Hot (y) The Inverter creates an isolated AC Bus. Because of this, you may see that the operating voltage between the Ground and Neutral or HOT and Neutral, even when the unit is properly grounded, to float up to 45 or 50VAC or higher. This is normal. The Ground should be tied to Earth Ground to protect equipment and people in case there is a ground fault in the appliance plugged into the inverter. The case of the Adelser Inverter is tied to earth ground for your protection. The output of the inverter is 120VAC between the HOT and Neutral pins on the connector.
