8 Electronic CARBOY-SCALE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS If you have any questions regarding the installation, operation or maintenance on your CARBOY-SCALE, please do not hesitate to call our... HELP HOTLINE WARNING: To prevent possible personal injury or damage to the equipment through misuse, this equipment should be installed, operated and serviced only by trained, qualified personnel who are thoroughly familiar with the entire contents of this Instruction Manual, which should be thoroughly reviewed and understood prior to installing and operating the equipment. ITEMS REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION: Power Drill and Drill Bits Hammer Drill and Masonry Bit (5/6") Two (2) /4" Diameter Anchors (for platform) Four (4) properly chosen Anchors (for Indicator) Two (2) Adjustable Wrenches Screw Driver and Tape Measure Hammer (for pounding in anchor bolts) Carboy/Drum (for aligning platform) COMMENTS: Your Electronic CARBOY-SCALE consists of two basic assemblies:. 9 INSTALLATION NOTES: CAUTION: For proper operation and to avoid possible damage to the scale or injury to yourself, you MUST install these items in the following Step-by-Step manner. The Electronic CARBOY-SCALE should be used with carboys which have outside diameters of 8" to 9", and gross weights from 200 to 400 lbs. Remove all items from box. The load cell system is wired and calibrated at the factory. STEP : PLACE PLATFORM ON FLOOR LINE OF SIGHT CENTER THE BLACK DOT A " Clearance between platform and wall B PLATFORM CLOSE-UP DETAIL (A) Place the platform on the floor with the backstop side of the platform at the wall. (NOTE: Allow at least " clearance between wall and platform) (B) Remove stud from Load Cell and place Load Cell underneath Platform so that the "BLACK DOT" on Load Button is centered in the hole in the back of the Platform. LOAD CELL ALLIGNMENT INCORRECT CORRECT DO NOT anchor platform to floor until Step 3! STEP 2: LEVEL PLATFORM Check the platform-mounted level to assure that the scale is level from front to rear. If the platform is not level, either: (A) Raise rear of platform by placing shims underneath the load cell, or REAR PLATFORM FRONT MOUNTING FOOT (B) Raise front by placing shims underneath the hinge on the anchor bolts (shims provided with scale). LOAD CELL A WASHERS WASHERS B STEP 3: ANCHORING THE PLATFORM Platform must not touch wall or scale will not function properly. Mark mounting holes on the floor. Drill holes with 5/6" bit and bolt scale to the floor using two (2) /4" diameter anchor bolts. Make sure your anchor bolts are properly sized and compatible with your floor material!! CAUTION: To avoid injury caused by a tipping carboy, DO NOT use until platform is bolted to floor. STEP 4: ANCHORING THE LOAD CELL (A) Using Platform as a template, mark floor to drill Load Cell anchoring hole. Using this hole, mark on the floor for load cell anchoring. 10 STEP 4: ANCHORING THE LOAD CELL cont... (B) After mark is established on the floor, pivot Platform out of the way. Centerpunch the mark to ensure accurate hole location. Drill a 5/6" hole using an appropriate bit. Drill the hole approximately inch deep. Drill 5/6" diameter hole, inch deep. B (C) Install stud into threaded hole on Load Cell. FINGER TIGHTEN ONLY! C (D) Slide leveling washer(s) if needed onto stud. E D (E). Insert Load Cell Stud into hole in the floor. 2. Be certain that the Load Cell is seated "flush" on the floor. Position Load Cell so that the cable runs straight out to either side of the Platform. E2 Cable to exit straight out on either side of Platform. F (F) Pivot Platform back into place. Site through the mounting hole on the platform to ensure that the "BLACK DOT" on the Load Cell button is centered in the hole on the platform. 11 STEP 4: ANCHORING THE LOAD CELL cont... (G) If the "BLACK DOT" on the Load Cell Button is not centered in the hole on the platform loosen the floor anchor bolts slightly and adjust platform as needed. Once proper alignment is achieved, tighten the anchor bolts. Adjust platform for proper alignment. Loosen "BLACK DOT" on Load Cell should be centered in hole on platform. STEP 5: MOUNTING ADDITIONAL SCALES To mount additional scales side-by-side, be sure to allow for the frame hinge when determining the distance between platforms (if minimizing floor area) and repeat Step - 5. 17 -CHANNEL INDICATOR ONLY SOLO INDICATOR INSTALLATION & WIRING cont... 4 SET POINTS The SOLO 000 features two (2) adjustable set points that can be used for alarm or control applications. The signals are TTL Digital Outputs and can be used to activate an external relay or be wired directly into a PLC that accepts this type of input. The set point outputs are "sinking" transistors that drop to ground when the set point level is reached. The signal is 5 VDC at 300mA. To configure the set points, see Set Point Configuration Instructions in Chapter IV. "FIXED" means: Empty tank is REFILLED. LOAD CONTAINER Load a FULL container on scale platform. NOTE: To calibrate a DRUMM-SCALE, CYLINDER-SCALE, TOTE BIN SCALE or CARBOY-SCALE: Make sure the tank is resting against the backstop. If scale weighs HEAVY...move backstop forward. If scale weighs LIGHT...move backstop back. PROCESS CONNECTIONS Make all necessary process connections to container or tank. Assure that all connections are FLEXIBLE, so as not to restrain the vessel from freely resting on the scale and platform movement is not restrained. DETERMINE TARE To determine tare weight: ) Check container to see if the tare weight is marked on it (ie stamped on chine or top of cylinder). 2) On containers and tanks that are not marked, begin by zeroing the scale. Place an empty container and any applicable process connections. The value dsiplayed is the tare weight. Record this weight in a visible location for future reference....prior TO FILLING TANK: CENTER TANK Load a FULL container on scale platform. CHEM-SCALE or BULK TANK (permanent tank) applications only: CHEM-SCALE: Make certain that the tank is centered on platform. BULK TANKS: Make certain saddles are equal distance from tank centerline. PROCESS CONNECTIONS Make all necessary process connections to container or tank. Assure that all connections are FLEXIBLE, so as not to restrain the vessel from freely resting on the scale and platform movement is not restrained. TARE ADJUSTMENT WITH NO CHEMICAL IN TANK... Rotate the tare adjustment knob until it reads ZERO. FILL TANK Fill tank. Indicator should now read only weight of chemical. TARE ADJUSTMENT Rotate the tare adjustment knob until the display indicates the net contents of the container (the tare adjustment is located on face of the CENTURY dial, or the side of the SOLO 000). NOTE: When loading a PARTIALLY full container, start by zeroing the scale with the tare adjust knob. Then place the container on the scale and make process connections. ALWAYS USE EXTREME CARE WHEN WORKING NEAR ENERGIZED CIRCUITS The SOLO 000 features two (2) adjustable set points that can be used for alarm or control applications. The signals are TTL Digital Outputs and can be used to activate an external relay or be wired directly into a PLC that accepts this type of input. The set point outputs are "sinking" transistors that drop to ground when the set point level is reached. The signal is 5 V DC at 300mA. SET POINT : SET POINT 2: Weight BELOW Set Point Level = 0 V DC Weight ABOVE Set Point Level = 5 V DC Weight BELOW Set Point 2 Level = 0 V DC Weight ABOVE Set Point 2 Level = 5 V DC TO CONFIGURE SET POINTS SET POINT : ) Apply weight (the actual amount of desired set point level) on scale. 2) Close and open Switch #SW4-3 3) Remove weight. Relays are Form C Dry Contact, rated 2A@30 VDC, 20VAC. SET ALARM LEVEL STEP : Turn SWITCH # on SW4 "OFF". STEP 2: For SCALE #, turn Switch #4 on SW4 "ON". For SCALE #2, turn Switch #5 on SW4 "ON". STEP 3: Use SW2 to count DOWN or SW3 to count UP to desired setpoint level. The value displayed on the screen is the weight at which the alarm will trigger. STEP 4: Turn Switch #4 or #5 on SW4 "OFF". 31 FOR SCALES WITH SLOTTED PLATFORM(S) ONLY! CALIBRATING THE SCALE IMPORTANT! To insure accurate weight readings, it is critical that the load is properly centered within the "CALIBRATION RING". SCALE CALIBRATION ) Loosen the backstop hold-down nuts and slide the backstop toward the edge of the platform. STEP : Loosen backstop bolts and slide backstop toward edge of platform. 2) Place the container that is to be weighed (or an empty container that is the same diameter of the container to be weighed) on the platform.
