5 INSTALLATION DRUMM-SCALE with ELECTRONIC INDICATOR (,000 lb. or 500 kg. Capacity) DRUMM-SCALE SCALES for PORTABLE Drums INSTALLATION: (See Installation Drawings and for Drumm-Scale) Position scale platform on level surface. The hinge and load cell must be adequately supported by concrete slab or other suitable substrate. 2 Anchor hinge to ground or substrate using suitable anchors. DO NOT OPERATE SCALE UNLESS IT IS ANCHORED TO GROUND! 3 Install shear-beam load cell using 2 flat head socket screws, shim plate and threaded nuts per Drawing and Drawing Load cell arrow should point upward, load button with jam nut should face toward ground with shim plate between load cell and platform. 4 Level the platform by threading the load button in or out and locking the jam nut in place when level. DO NOT extend the load button beyond the available threads in the load cell. This will cause the improper operation of your scale. The load button is all that contacts the ground. 5 Feed load cell cable through notch in side of platform and use tab to keep cable suspended and clear of platform edge and obstructions. 6 The Load Cell is equipped with 20' of shielded cable which connects to the inside of the bottom of the indicator (see page 6). If you are imbedding conduit in your concrete pad, between your scale and indicator, we recommend -/2" ID conduit so you can fit all your load cell cables in one conduit. DO NOT run any other inductive load with your load cell cable. All connectors have screw-type terminals to assist in connecting wires. Remove the connector from the board before attaching wires. POWER HOOK-UP TURN OFF MAIN POWER BEFORE CONNECTING!! Use a clean 0 Volt AC power line, connected directly to the main power panel at the facility. DO NOT connect any other inductive loads, relays, etc. to this power line! 15 -CHANNEL INDICATOR ONLY SOLO INDICATOR INSTALLATION & WIRING cont... 4 SET POINTS The SOLO 000 features two (2) adjustable set points that can be used for alarm or control applications. The signals are TTL Digital Outputs and can be used to activate an external relay or be wired directly into a PLC that accepts this type of input. The set point outputs are "sinking" transistors that drop to ground when the set point level is reached. The signal is 5 VDC at 300mA. To configure the set points, see Set Point Configuration Instructions in Chapter IV. 18 INSTALLATION CHECK-OFF LIST INSTALL SCALE PLATFORM & LOAD CELL (Section.3) - Route load cell cable to indicator mounting location, per instructions. 2 MOUNT INDICATOR (Section.20) - Mount at proper location, at eye level 3 WIRE INDICATOR - TURN OFF ALL POWER BEFORE WIRING! (Section.20) - Connect dedicated clean 0 volt AC power line through /2" conduit connector. - Connect Load Cell cable through /4" cord connector. - Connect 4-20 MA signal through /2" conduit connector. - Connect relays through /2" conduit connector (same connector as 4-20 ma) 4 SEAL INDICATOR ENCLOSURE TO MAINTAIN 4X RATING!!! 19 START-UP CHECK-OFF LIST with SOLO INDICATOR PORTABLE TANK APPLICATIONS TANKS ARE CHANGED (TANK AND CHEMICAL REPLACED) POWER-UP: The value will be the tare weight of your scale platform. 2 Apply pressure to platform to see if indicator responds to changes in weight. 3 Verify the platform calibration on the following page. 4 Load tank(s) onto scale. Use tare adjustment knob to "tare out" container weight. FIXED TANK APPLICATIONS TANKS ARE NOT CHANGED (EMPTIED AND REFILLED IN PLACE) POWER-UP: The value will be the tare weight of your scale platform. 2 Apply pressure to platform to see if indicator responds to changes in weight. 3 With EMPTY tank mounted on the platform, turn tare adjust knob until scale indicator reads zero. 4 Fill tank. NOTE: To calibrate a DRUMM-SCALE, CYLINDER-SCALE, TOTE BIN SCALE or CARBOY-SCALE: Make sure the tank is resting against the backstop. If scale weighs HEAVY...move backstop forward. If scale weighs LIGHT...move backstop back. PROCESS CONNECTIONS Make all necessary process connections to container or tank. Assure that all connections are FLEXIBLE, so as not to restrain the vessel from freely resting on the scale and platform movement is not restrained. DETERMINE TARE To determine tare weight: ) Check container to see if the tare weight is marked on it (ie stamped on chine or top of cylinder). 2) On containers and tanks that are not marked, begin by zeroing the scale. Place an empty container and any applicable process connections. The value dsiplayed is the tare weight. Record this weight in a visible location for future reference....prior TO FILLING TANK: CENTER TANK Load a FULL container on scale platform. CHEM-SCALE or BULK TANK (permanent tank) applications only: CHEM-SCALE: Make certain that the tank is centered on platform. BULK TANKS: Make certain saddles are equal distance from tank centerline. PROCESS CONNECTIONS Make all necessary process connections to container or tank. Assure that all connections are FLEXIBLE, so as not to restrain the vessel from freely resting on the scale and platform movement is not restrained. TARE ADJUSTMENT WITH NO CHEMICAL IN TANK... Rotate the tare adjustment knob until it reads ZERO. FILL TANK Fill tank. Indicator should now read only weight of chemical. TARE ADJUSTMENT Rotate the tare adjustment knob until the display indicates the net contents of the container (the tare adjustment is located on face of the CENTURY dial, or the side of the SOLO 000). NOTE: When loading a PARTIALLY full container, start by zeroing the scale with the tare adjust knob. Then place the container on the scale and make process connections. 24 -CHANNEL INDICATOR ONLY ALARM SET POINT CONFIGURATION CAUTION! ALWAYS USE EXTREME CARE WHEN WORKING NEAR ENERGIZED CIRCUITS The SOLO 000 features two (2) adjustable set points that can be used for alarm or control applications. The signals are TTL Digital Outputs and can be used to activate an external relay or be wired directly into a PLC that accepts this type of input. The set point outputs are "sinking" transistors that drop to ground when the set point level is reached. The signal is 5 V DC at 300mA. SET POINT : SET POINT 2: Weight BELOW Set Point Level = 0 V DC Weight ABOVE Set Point Level = 5 V DC Weight BELOW Set Point 2 Level = 0 V DC Weight ABOVE Set Point 2 Level = 5 V DC TO CONFIGURE SET POINTS SET POINT : ) Apply weight (the actual amount of desired set point level) on scale. 2) Close and open Switch #SW4-3 3) Remove weight. ALWAYS USE EXTREME CARE WHEN WORKING NEAR ENERGIZED CIRCUITS If your SOLO includes the optional Level Alarm Relay(s), the following instructions establish setpoint values. Relays are Form C Dry Contact, rated 2A@30 VDC, 20VAC. SET ALARM LEVEL STEP : Turn SWITCH # on SW4 "OFF". STEP 2: For SCALE #, turn Switch #4 on SW4 "ON". For SCALE #2, turn Switch #5 on SW4 "ON". STEP 3: Use SW2 to count DOWN or SW3 to count UP to desired setpoint level. The value displayed on the screen is the weight at which the alarm will trigger. STEP 4: Turn Switch #4 or #5 on SW4 "OFF". 28 CHECKING SCALE CALIBRATION via the "WATER TEST" on VERTICAL ROUND TANKS TO DETERMINE TANK MEASUREMENTS: To calculate volume, you need to make 2 basic measurements with a tape measure: TANK "RADIUS" and WATER "HEIGHT". STEP : With NO WATER in the tank, measure the inside diameter (I.D.) of the tank to the nearest /6" of an inch. Take care when measuring so that your tape measure is "level" and you are measuring across the MIDDLE of the tank. STEP 2: ZERO scale indicator, then fill the tank with water approximately 80% full. Step 2: Zero scale indicator, then fill 80% full with water. Step : Measure tank inside diameter. STEP 3: Put tape measure down through the water and measure the water level to the nearest /6 of an inch. This value represents your "HEIGHT". Step 3: Measure water height. 3 TO DETERMINE VOLUME: The volume (in gallons) of your container can be determined by this simple formula: FORMULA: (3.46 x Drum Radius x Drum Radius x Water Height) divided by 23 = Gallons Example: (3.46 X.28" x.28" x 35.87") divided by 23 = Gallons 3.46 = PI (constant) 23 = Cubic inches in gallon (constant) Drum radius is half of drum inner diameter. Example: 22-9/6" (22.562") divided by 2 =.28" Drum Radius Water Height = 35-3/6 (35.870) TO DETERMINE WEIGHT: Once the volume is determined, multiply the total gallons times the weight per gallon of water (which is 8.34 lbs. per gallon). The weight of water is the same universally. FORMULA: Gallons x Lbs. per gallon = Total lbs. Example: x 8.34 lbs/gallon = lbs. Total = Gallons as determined above *8.34 = Weight of water (lbs. per gallon) IMPORTANT NOTE: Minimum test sample: 20 gallons All measurements should be made to + or - /6".
