1 uary 214

2 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview uary 214 In uary 214, particularly warm temperatures during that period led to a strong drop in national consumption and a high monthly level of exchanges. In consequence, gross consumption was down by 8.1% with respect to uary 213. Corrected for weather instability, monthly electricity consumption remains stable (up by.3%). Peak consumption is the lowest observed for the month of uary for the last ten years. Furthermore, a rise has been noted in consumption by large-scale industry over the last three months. Nuclear production, thanks to good availability, reached its highest level since uary 212. Renewable-energy sectors have allowed 2% of monthly consumption to be covered, with the wind-power and hydro-power sectors having benefited from On 1 uary 214 at 7:3 p.m., maximum wind-power production peaked at 6,439 MW, close to the historic maximum of 23 ember 213. Moderate national consumption and good levels of nuclear and hydro-power production have enabled France to reach its highest export level since 28. However, import balances remain with Germany and Spain. Five installations entered service in uary 214, including, in particular, an installation to improve the security of supply to the conurbation of Orléans in Loiret département, a client station, an underground cable, and two sets of installations to reinforce the security of the power supply. Monthly Overview - uary 214 2

3 Monthly Electrical Energy Overview uary 214 CONSUMPTION The average temperature observed in uary was 7.1 C, i.e. 2.2 C above normal. It was the mildest uary since 27. Thus, electricity consumption was down by 8.1% with respect to uary 213. The fall in temperature-related consumption was 45. TWh. Peak consumption reached 82.3 GW. That is the lowest uary peak observed for ten years. The slowdown in the rise of electricity consumption by the residential and SMI / SME sectors, which was observed since ober, has been confirmed. Under the effects of the slowdown in economic activity, consumption by the industrial sector (except offtakes by the energy sector) has fallen by 2.1% since ruary 213. However, the trend towards stabilisation observed since the end of 213 has been confirmed. GENERATION Nuclear production, with a very good level of availability, is up by.7% with respect to uary 213. It is at its highest level since uary 212. Monthly production of hydro-power is up and stands at 7. TWh, being back at the high levels observed in the 1st half of 213. Production by the renewable-energy sector other than hydro-power has reached its best level since ember 212, thanks to an excellent level of wind-power production. Due to lower levels of consumption as well as the availability of nuclear, renewable-energies and hydro-power production, thermal production using fossil fuels has fallen by almost half compared with uary 213. WIND & PV On 1 uary 214, at 7:3 p.m., wind power reached a maximum output of 6,439 MW, close to the historic maximum reached on 23 ember 213 (6,441 MW). Due to excellent weather conditions, monthly wind production in uary reached the highest level observed since ember 212, with an average load factor of 36%. That high level of wind-power production, combined with the fall in electricity consumption, has led to an average rate of consumption coverage (4.6%). Monthly PV production exceeded the level of uary 213. INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES France has reached its highest export level since 28, thanks to mild temperatures observed during the month and to good availability from the nuclear sector. Thus, France has a constant export balance on a monthly basis. Finally, the monthly overall balance is at the level of balances normally observed during the summer. France remained a net importer from Germany, as for the four previous months. Overall it showed net imports from Spain, after an export balance in ember, following strong wind-power production and low demand in Spain. The export balance on exchanges with England is almost three times higher than that of the previous month and of uary 213, and it matches the peak value of y. The export balance of exchanges with Switzerland reached its highest level since ch 212. NEW INSTALLATIONS Five installations entered service in uary, including, in particular, the entry into service of the transformer station ofsaint Cyr-en-Val to improve the security of the power supply to the conurbation of Orléans, in Loiret département, bringing together two levels of voltage, a 225-kV transformer, and two overhead-underground lines. Work has been carried out to strengthen the security of the power supply to the economic area of Puy-en-Velay in Haute- Loire département, to the South-West region, and to the town of Epernay.
