9 8 SESSIONS & CONVENTIONS SMW 2015 THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29 - MORNING - City & Green Logistics Thursday, October 29, 9:00 a.m p.m. Hall Tower "F1 Track ", 2 nd floor Hospitality Building, Autodromo Nazionale Monza Smart Mobility World 2012 staged the signing of an operative agreement between metropolitan areas and the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transports, regarding the development of new governance models for urban logistics. The following year, a memorandum of understanding between the City of Turin, the local Chamber of Commerce and the 17 principal concerned associations was signed. This agreement gave the greenlight for a pilot experiment that was followed by a period of reflection and debate between the sector s stakeholders. Today we finally witness the conclusion of this initial phase, with the development of regulations for the sector and the application in various metropolitan cities of best practices resulting from pilot projects. Indeed, the growth in the number of deliveries has been followed by a reduction regarding the volume of single deliveries. The result of these two trends determines greater traffic caused by delivery; generates further clashes between the transport of passengers and that of goods both during movement and parking; increments urban congestion and pollution. In this challenging scenario, the session aims to present a new vision of distribution markets to central and local political decision makers, social partners, associates, researchers, big industrial players and citizens. Its objective is, therefore, that of proposing possible solutions and policies that could contribute to a new conception for the future development of our smart cities. The challenge of Smart Mobility World will be that of kick-starting the second phase through cooperation and networking, by exchanging ideas on best practices that have already been successfully experimented in metropolitan areas and cities. The ambition of the session is to encourage the latter to become the standards for urban logistics and the technology to achieve this is certainly abundant. With cross fertilization between players of the sector, it will be finally possible to make the most of the urban and sustainable logistics market and to find innovative solutions to reduce emissions. In 2013, the roads of the European Union registered about 26,000 deaths and nearly 1.4 million wounded, of which 100,000 with serious permanent damage. These numbers can be compared to an armed conflict with a very high social cost: in 2009 it totaled nearly 130 billion euros and it is constantly growing. In 2010 the European Union has set up a program of regulation and investment in research and development, with the aim to decrease deaths on roads below 20,000 by The program foresees direct assistance and cooperation between States, businesses and citizens. Innovations include LNG refueling stations that can be integrated with service stations that offer traditional fuels and the installation of self-service distributors. Furthermore, various Regions envisage policies and network development projects based on incentives. Another great development opportunity for the natural gas chain is represented by the application of bio-methane to auto-traction. Bio-methane has, indeed, various advantages: It represents a renewable and programmable source of energy; It leads to a reduction in natural gas import dependency; It fosters the growth of local economies; It guarantees an increase in environmental sustainability. Therefore, launching the bio-methane chain represents an incredible opportunity for the development of the Italian green economy. In the coming months the government proposal for LNG development will be approved. It will be presented in the consultation table for the development of this chain, coordinated by MISE and in collaboration with MIT. The convention will present, through the protagonists themselves, the contents and course of action expected in the Plan regarding the auto-traction sector. It will also examine the main project and best technologies available for the LNG supply chains.
