3 Background The DME production capacity in China is more than 10 million tons now, but only about 30% of the capacity turns to production. The DME market includes both domestic and industrial usage, but used as vehicle fuel is also very attractive. It is proven that DME is a excellent diesel alternative for compression ignition engine. It is severely shortage of vehicle fuel, specially diesel fuel in China in the coming years, large amount of alternative fuel is needed.

8 Fuel Consumption & CO 2 Regulations for Vehicle FC(L/100km) USA Light Truck USA Car EUROPE For global warming, CO 2 and fuel consumption for vehicle is becoming more and more strict. 9 Vehicle energy shortage in 2020 Saving 75(30%) Alternative 50(20%) Demand 125(50%) Mass production alternative fuel is urgent need.

11 Brief Results 1 Set up a fleet consists of 10 DME vehicles 2 Building a DMEV fueling station 3 Commercial operation more than 220,000 km 4 Excellent experience accumulation on DMEV commercial operation smoke free, energy consumption similar with diesel vehicle, no obviously technical troubles.
12 Progress of Shanghai DME Bus Demonstration Three stages of the demo fleet running for the safety: 1 One DMEV trial running in campus of SJTU check the vehicle performance. 2 Two DMEV trial running in NO. 147 Shanghai Bus Line but with sand in the vehicle safety assessment. 3 DMEV commercial vehicles quantities increases gradually in NO.147 Bus in Shanghai( ).

27 Research of material compatibility for DMEV 1. Methanol and water affect little on the compatibility of DME sealing materials. 2. Material compatibility for DMEV should check the influence of llubricant additives. 3. The time effect of the sealing materials for vehicle used DME is much different with other fuels. 4. Suitable formulated EPDM can fit the technical requirement of DME vehicle.

29 DMEV standard system in China 1 national standard will be issued: DME Fuel for Vehicle 3 industry standards issued: DME engine standard; DMEV parts technical specifications(qc/t ); DMEV parts install standard(qc/t ); Fast plug in port for DME refueling(qc/t ). 3 industry standards will be issued recently: Tech. rules of dedicated DME engine; Finalize design tech rule of DMEV; Integration valve for DMEV. 14 local or company standards in Shanghai.(Vehicle, parts and refueling station)

31 Conclusions DMEV demo is proceeding smoothly in Shanghai. DME is a promising vehicle fuel in the near future. As a kind of new fuel, there still has many technical and standard work to be done. Large amount data is still needed to be accumulated by demonstration to consummate DMEV technology.
