Ippolito s does a great job with the food and we always have a fun time. I know everyone is busy but you have to eat, so why not do it with your SEGTOA friends. With all that s going on in the world today, we need to stop for a few minutes and reflect on all the good things in our lives. I hope SEGTOA, Pontiacs, Club Outings, and the SEGTOA members you know make you smile when you think of them. We ve had a fun year with lots of different opportunities to enjoy our Pontiacs (and a couple of Buicks). We ve donated to Charities, helped with the BOPC, enjoyed talking cars & politics, gone on trips, and just spent time with friends who we wouldn t have had the opportunity to meet and get to know if it weren t for SEGTOA. I hope all of you feel your $20.00 membership is money well spent. I certainly do!!! If I don t get to see you (and your Better Half) at the Christmas Party, may I wish you a Merry Christmas And a Happy 2016!! 3 Toys for Tots November 14, 2015 It was an excellent day for a car show, cool and sunny. And it was for a good cause, the Toys for Tots campaign that is put on every year by the United States Marine Corps. The following members and cars attended: Chad Wade and Ed Downing also attended. We had a good lunch at Dave & Buster s, and three huge boxes of toys were collected for the kids. 4 SEGTOA Save The Date! December Event Holiday Party December 5 th We have finalized the details to this year s Holiday Party. Please let me know your attendance. Holiday Party at Ippolito s Italian restaurant in Roswell, GA. We rent the back room of the Italian restaurant. It is a buffet style setting with a cash bar. The cost is $30 per person or $45 per couple. Includes buffet lunch, iced tea, soft drinks, desert. There will be a cash bar as well for adult beverages. We perform a wrapped gift exchange. Value of each gift should be $10 or less. They can be useful items such as car cleaning products, tools or gag gifts. This has historically been by far our largest attended club event each year. Lunch will run from 11:30 AM to 3 PM. Food served at 12 Noon. January Event: South Carolina International Auto Show Join us on Saturday January 16th for a day trip to the International Auto Show at the TD Convention Center in Greenville, SC where we ll see the following and more: Major Domestic & Import Manufacturers Featuring the latest cars, trucks, crossovers, vans, sport/utilities and alternative fuel vehicles. Manufacturers displaying models at the South Carolina International Auto Show include: Buick Chevrolet Infiniti Hyundai Chrysler Dodge Ford Jeep Lexus Roush Maserati Mazda Lotus Ram Fiat Honda Lincoln GMC Subaru Acura Toyota Sprinter Test Drive Events! Two special test drive events are taking place at the auto show this year, allowing attendees to help close the loop on their auto show research. The Toyota and Chrysler Drive brings the hottest sellers from Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and FIAT for attendees to drive. Test drives are included with the price of auto show admission and will operate each day. Drivers must be at least 18 years or older, show a valid driver s license and pass a breathalyzer test. Passengers must be at least 8-years-old. Modern Muscle, One-of-a-Kind Customs and Restored Vehicles Display Tommy Pike Customs will again be featured at the South Carolina International Auto Show. Pike has been involved in the automotive industry in the Greenville, S.C., area for more than 15 years. His facility has produced cars featured at national events. Specializing in modern muscle performance and cutting edge customization, Pike will have a display that is sure to appeal to We ll meet in the Atlanta area, caravan up, grab lunch, see the show, and head back. More details will be provided as the date approaches. 5

6 Tech Tips -- Transmission Install Simplified I have installed a number of 4-speed transmissions in my cars and in my friends' cars and I think the last installation was about 30 or 35 years ago. So when I tried to install the Muncie in my 1965 GTO a few weeks ago, I realized that I was either a whole lot weaker than I used to be or I must have had someone helping me. I had bought a small transmission jack and it took a long time to even get the Muncie upright on the jack. When I finally got the transmission jacked up to where it needed to be, I used a trick a friend told me about. The hardest thing is getting the transmission up to the right level, tilt it just right and insert the input shaft through the throw -out bearing and clutch disc and then probe around until the tip of the shaft finds the pilot bearing hole. Way too much for one person laying on their back. My friend told me to get a couple of 1/2" - 13 bolts about 4" long and saw the heads off. I sawed one off at 3" long and one at 3-1/4" inches long. I ground the end flat and then ground a 45 degree chamfer all around the cut end on my belt sander. I screwed these pilot bolts into the 2 lower transmission bolt holes in the bellhousing. This way after you start the input shaft through the clutch disc you just slide one of the lower transmission ears over the one pilot bolt then rotate the transmission on that bolt until you get the other lower ear over the other pilot bolt. All of this is done while the input shaft is nowhere near the pilot bearing in the crankshaft. Then all you do is find the right angle and slide the transmission and input shaft right into the pilot bearing. Put in the top 2 transmission bolts, unscrew the 2 lower pilot bolts and install the 2 bottom transmission bolts. I would never have been able to do this by myself without the help of those pilot bolts. - Paul Sorrels 6
