DANIELIAUTOMATION OUTGOING COIL HANDLING ZONE N. 9 3 ZONE SENSORS The zone sensors are used, apart from controlling and locking functions, for the coils tracking. Each coil is followed step by step in the conveyor zone: the coil detected by the sensor in a certain station is identified by the number of steps counted from the downcoiler. Coil identification is available till the coil is discharged from the W.B.C. Conveyor #5. The number of coils stored on each conveyor is calculated, as there are not detectors in every station of the conveyors. The sensors detecting the coil presence are photocells arranged as follows: 35M23-S5 35M25-S4 35M3-S 25M3-S5 35M3-S6 35M32-S 35M32-S 35M32-S5 35M32-S6 35M33-S6 35M33-S7 35M33-S8 35M34-S 35M34-S 35M35-S 35M35-S Coil presence on the coil extractor intermediate saddle Coil presence on W.B.C. # receiving station Coil presence on W.B.C. # last station Coil presence on lowering platform # top position Coil presence on lowering platform # bottom position Coil presence on W.B.C. #2 first station Coil presence on W.B.C. #2 last station Coil presence on lowering platform #2 top position Coil presence on lowering platform #2 bottom position Coil presence on W.B.C. #3 first station Coil presence on W.B.C. #3 last station Coil presence on W.B.C. rotating platform Coil presence on W.B.C. #4 first station Coil presence on W.B.C. #4 last station Coil presence on W.B.C. #5 first station Coil presence on W.B.C. #5 last station 35M35-S2 Coil presence on W.B.C. #5 conditioning shear saddle # 2 35M35-S3 Coil presence on W.B.C. #5 circumference strapping saddle #4 35M35-S4 Coil presence on W.B.C. #5 radial strapping saddle n#6 35M35-S5 Coil presence on W.B.C. #5 marking and weighing saddle #8 9/38 #79259

DANIELIAUTOMATION OUTGOING COIL HANDLING ZONE N. 4 ZONE OPERATION AND CONTROL 4. COIL UNLOADING The Coil Car cycle starts from coil car parking position or from mandrel centerline position as well. When the sequence is activated, if the Coil Car is not already at mandrel centerline, it is moved to this position in lowered configuration. Before the tail positioning is initiated, the Coil Car is moved to the mandrel centerline in lowered configuration. Then the car is lifted to partial up position under the coil, at reduced pressure to snug the final wraps on the coil. When the coil contact is detected, the lifting movement is locked and coil car switches to high pressure in order to support the coil. Tension reel mandrel is then collapsed and the Coil Car starts moving back toward the unloading saddle position. To be noted that Cradle Rolls shall be locked with the Coil Car pressing against the coil and the mandrel is at standstill and shall be unlocked at coil stripping end. While the coil car traverses away, the mandrel shall rotate slowly in a counter-clockwise direction. This prevents the centre of the coil from telescoping out when removed from the mandrel. If the coil begins to telescope during removal, the Operator may stop the cycle. This cycle can be divided as follows:. Coil Car fully lowered is moved from initial position to mandrel centerline position, 2. Coil Car lifting at reduced pressure against the coil, 3. As soon as the coil car gets in contact with the coil the lifting movement is locked and then lifting pressure is toggled to "high", 4. Mandrel is rotated to position the tail end, and then is collapsed to allow coil extraction, 5. With Coil Car locked lifted at high pressure on mandrel position and ready to support the coil, the mandrel is collapsed, 6. Coil Car starts moving away at low speed, 7. Coil car fully lifting with coil aboard, 8. Coil Car traverses to saddle position, 9. Coil Car lowers the coil onto the saddle,. Coil Car when lowered and without coil traverses back to rotation position (parking). /38 #79259

DANIELIAUTOMATION OUTGOING COIL HANDLING ZONE N COIL TRANSFER BY WALKING # UP TO LIFTING PLATFORM The cycle of coil extractor starts when the Coil Car has unloaded the coil on the transfer saddle and is returned to parking position. Coil extractor lifts the coil from the saddle and unloads it on the first fixed saddle of Walking Beam Conveyor #. The coils are moved in the conveyors area as follows: Conveyors usually are advanced one step every time a new coil is available in the entry zone of the conveyor and the relevant exit zone is free from coils. Platforms start to lower or rotate after a coil is available on the saddle. The conveyors and platforms are moved in sequence. Note: If the coil shall be dispatched to the Inspection Station please refer to Coil Handling Zone N.2 F.D. In a steady condition: a. Coil extractor step unloads the coil onto the W.B.C. # first saddle. b. W.B.C. step transfers the coil on the last saddle to platform, c. Platform # lowers the coil or rotates it to inspection station (see FD Coil Handling Zone N.2) d. W.B.C. #2 step brings the coil on the last saddle to platform #2 and the coil on platform # to the first saddle of W.B.C. #2. e. Platform #2 lowers the coil. Platform # is lifted. f. W.B.C. # 3 step brings the coil on the last saddle (if there is any) to the rotating platform and the coil on platform no. 2 to the first saddle of W.B.C. # 3. g. The rotating platform rotates the coil 9 to face W.B.C. # 5. Platform no. 2 is lifted. h. W.B.C. # 5 brings the coil on the saddle before the last saddle (if there is any) to discharging position (where it is taken by crane or fork lift) and the coil on the rotating platform to the first saddle of W.B.C. # 5 i. The rotating platform rotates 9 to face W.B.C. # 3. The condition to transfer a coil from a conveyor to the next platform is that the platform has to be available (no coil) and properly positioned (up/facing the inlet conveyor). The condition to take away a coil from a platform is that the platform has to be properly positioned (down/facing the outlet conveyor). 2/38 #79259

DANIELIAUTOMATION OUTGOING COIL HANDLING ZONE N. 3 If a coil gets the rotating platform position but it cannot be discharged onto W.B.C. # 5 owing to an interlock to W.B.C. #5, the coil is taken away from rotating platform by W.B.C. # 4 and momentary stored on W.B.C. conveyor # 4 saddles. 3/38 #79259

DANIELIAUTOMATION OUTGOING COIL HANDLING ZONE N. 4 If there is no coil presence on platform #2 or on the last saddle of W.B.C. #3 the coil can be advanced from W.B.C. # 4 to W.B.C. #5. 2) The quantity of coils stored on each W.B.C. conveyors has to be computed; the W.B.C. conveyor can start a coil transfer cycle even if there is a coil on any saddle of the W.B.C. itself. The coils already positioned on the conveyors seats or platforms are advanced one step every time the starting conditions are fulfilled. The coil transfer from the intermediate saddle to W.B.C. # has the priority on any step of any W.B.C. a. Coil extractor step brings the coil from the intermediate saddle to W.B.C. # first saddle. b. W.B.C. # step brings the coil on last saddle of W.B.C. # to platform no. and the coil on any saddle of W.B.C. # to the next saddle. c. Platform no. is lowered if any coil is charged d. W.B.C. #2 step brings the coil on the last saddle of W.B.C. #2 to platform no. 2 and the coil on platform no. or on any saddle of W.B.C. #2 to the next saddle of W.B.C. #2. Platform # lifting. e. Platform #2 is lowering if any coil is charged f. W.B.C. #3 step brings the coil from the last saddle of W.B.C. #3 to rotating platform and the coil on platform #2 or any saddle of W.B.C. #3 to the next saddle of W.B.C. #3. g. The rotating platform rotates 9 to face W.B: #3 if any coil is charged h. W.B.C. #5 step brings the coil to the last saddle (discharging saddle) and the coil on the rotating platform or any saddle of W.B.C. #5 to the next saddle on W.B.C. conveyor #5. When a conveyor is empty and the saddle at the entry of the conveyor is empty, it stays at standstill. When a coil is detected on the saddle 2 of W.B.C. #5 the manual cycle relevant to the conditioning shear can start if required. The following man operations have to be performed on conditioning saddle:. Pressure roll closing, 2. Strip head positioning through coil rotation by the motorized cradle rollers, 3. Coil opener positioning, 4. Strip head advancing through the shear and positioning at marking and cut length, 5. Sample marking, 6. Sample cutting, 7. Strip rewinding, 8. Pressure roll opening and coil opener retraction. 4/38 #79259

DANIELIAUTOMATION OUTGOING COIL HANDLING ZONE N. 5 Till cycle is over the W.B.C. #5 cannot initiate a coil transfer step. When a coil is detected on saddle 4 of W.B.C. #5 the circumferential strapping cycle starts. W.B.C. C. #5 cannot initiate a coil transfer step until strapping is over. When the coil is detected on the saddle 6 of W.B.C. #5 the radial strapping cycle starts. W.B.C. # 5 cannot initiate a coil transfer step until the strapping is over. When a coil is detected on saddle 8 of W.B.C. #5 the marking and weighing cycles start. W.B.C. #5 can not initiate a coil transfer until marking and weighing are over. 5/38 #79259

DANIELIAUTOMATION A COIL UNLOADING EQUIPMENT N EQUIPMENT CONTROL AND OPERATION..2. Coil Car lifting-lowering Main data: Lifting stroke: Max. speed: 23 mm mm Coil Car lifting movement is performed by a proportional valve. The position of the car is controlled in open position control loop by using the position transducer - B. The pressure between Coil Car and coil in the coiling station is controlled by a pressure reducing valve and by the pressure transducer -B2. The reduced pressure is sufficient to lift/lower the Coil Car without coil. The full pressure is necessary to lift/lower the coil car with the coil. The high pressure is used to lift/lower/support the coil between the coiler and the takeover position, where a fixed intermediate saddle is foreseen. Coil Car lifting is performed in the coiler station. Coil Car lowering is performed in the coil takeover station. Coil Car stays in the down position in the coiler station till strip tail end is out from finishing mill. By tail out from finishing mill the Coil Car, in the coiler station, is lifted and position regulated in order to maintain at a distance of about mm from the coil surface; a low pressure level is used during positioning in lifting direction. The control system has to perform the following main tasks: Positioning strokes and speeds adjustment; Ramp actuator (adjustable); Required positioning accurancy ±2 mm; Warnings and alarms: diagnostics and interventions; 53/38 #79259

DANIELIAUTOMATION A COIL UNLOADING EQUIPMENT N EQUIPMENT CONTROL AND OPERATION.2.2. Coil Extractor Traverse A closed-loop position control is carried out on the base of the absolute encoder B. Accelerations and decelerations are determined by a ramp time. The frame can be moved in any position when the extractor lifting cylinder is in the down position. If the lifting cylinder is not in down position the extractor can be moved toward the adjacent position only if a coil does not engage it. Three stopping positions are foreseen for the saddle moving with the extractor beam: Saddle position (coil lifting position), W.B. C. # position (coil lowering on W.B. C. saddle #, Resting position (out of interference position with W.B. C. #). Proximity switch -S and -S3 placed after the intermediate saddle and resting position, E-stop the drive forward-backward stroke. 62 DANIELIAUTOMATION A COIL UNLOADING EQUIPMENT N Coil Extractor Lifting The Coil Extractor lifting is performed by a system of wedges located on the coil transfer beam. A wheeled coil cradle is lifted/lowered by shifting forward/reverse the wedges supporting it. The wedges are shifted by a hydraulic cylinder driven by a proportional valve. Lifting/lowering movements are performed open control loop. Acceleration and deceleration are performed by ramps. During traversing/standstill operation the drive is locked by the solenoid valve Y2 that prevents lowering when raised. For safety reasons, in case of power shut down, the drive remains locked in raised position. Lowering is allowed only by energizing the valve -Y2.
